***2025 Cocoa DE Javion Hilson visits UCF 🏈

rto2g0px5nymymorl1ov

Cocoa is always a state power under head coach Ryan Schneider and one of their up and coming prospects is Javion Hilson, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end in the Class of 2025.

Even though he's just a sophomore, schools are already paying close attention. UCF offered in January. Florida State, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Indiana and several more followed.

"It's been a good process," Hilson said. "I'm grateful for all these offers I've been getting. I've been grinding my tail off to get here."

On Monday, Hilson took his first-ever visit to UCF.

"I got the whole tour," Hilson said. "I watched my position group practice. After that, I talked to Coach (Kenny) Ingram. We talked about defensive schemes, stuff like that. I then saw the whole campus and the Bounce House."

Ingram sees a bright future for Hilson. He said he'd be a great fit in UCF's future defense in the Big 12.

"Coach Ingram said he really liked my get off and aggressiveness," Hilson said. "How I take the quarterback down. I can also stop the run."

What did he like most about UCF?

"Really everything," Hilson said. "I like the culture there. All the players are cool. I just liked everything. It's really nice."

Hilson previously visited Pittsburgh for a Junior Day. UCF was his second ever visit and the first time he watched a practice. Florida State, Florida A&M and Rutgers would like him to visit soon. He also plans to return to UCF, maybe later this spring.

Washington State and Oregon State temporarily control Pac 12 assets

This has fascinating and far reaching implications on realignment. Not sure if we will ever see the complete involuntary collapse of a conference again, but I get the arguments on both side. WSU and OSU think the other 10 want to just shut the conference down and distribute the assets. The other 10 think that they will get hosed from money they already earned for this year's conference affiliation. They will come to some compromise but it will be interesting.

***CMU OL Keegan Smith commits to UCF***

zrkx2tycajisj0fduhll

UCF continues to improve its 2024 roster via the transfer portal.

Keegan Smith, an offensive lineman from Central Michigan, became the latest to commit on Friday. He was the Chippewas' starting right guard in 2023, though he also played a bit of left guard as well. He redshirted in 2022, a year after he saw immediate playing time as a true freshman in 2021 with four starts and appearances in 12 overall games.

Smith entered the portal in late January as a graduate transfer, remaining enrolled at CMU through the end of the semester. He also announced offers from San Diego State, Western Kentucky, Sam Houston, Ball State, Western Michigan, UMass, Delaware, Ole Dominion, Arkansas State, Georgia State and Kent State. He took official visits to UMass and WKU prior to seeing UCF this past weekend.

A native of Jackson, Mich., and Class of 2020 graduate of Lumen Christi Catholic High School, Smith has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

UCF now has eight spring transfer portal commitments: Safety Cedrick Hawkins (Ohio State), defensive end Nyjalik Kelly (Miami), defensive back Tre'Quon Fegans (USC), quarterback Jacurri Brown (Miami), running back Peny Boone (Toledo/Louisville), wide receiver Jacoby Jones, safety Sheldon Arnold II (East Tennessee State) and offensive lineman Keegan Smith (Central Michigan).

ARTICLE from Mptness: UCF Baseball Gets Scratched by Cincinnati Bearcats/Weekend Preview

Knights drop the weekend series to their Big 12 rival

Wait, Bearcats have claws, right? One would be led to believe so – bears have claws, cats have claws … combine them, they’ll still have claws … right? Fun fact, the bearcat is actually known as the “binturong” and they are native to south and southeast Asia. Thanks, Wikipedia®! [Also, yes, they do in fact have claws.]

Anyhow, the Knights finished up their eight-game homestand over the last week with a four-game stretch including the usual midweek matchup with a Floridian team and a three-game weekend set with a conference foe.

***ETSU DB Sheldon Arnold commits to UCF***

lvojuvub8112qlaus4ed

It's been an unprecedented day of commitments at UCF.

East Tennessee State graduate transfer safety Sheldon Arnold II became the latest to join the Knights' commit party, announcing his decision around 7 p.m.

Arnold is coming off an All-American season at ETSU in which he amassed 87 tackles, nine TFL, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns. The native of Loganville, Ga., had a season PFF grade of 90.5, which ranked among the best in the nation.

During his portal recruitment, Arnold also announced offers from Houston, Michigan State, UAB and Arkansas State.

Arnold is the fourth player to commit to UCF today. Around 7 a.m., Class of 2025 linebacker Malakhi Boone announced his decision. At 12 noon, former Toledo/Louisville running back Peny Boone came aboard which was followed by the 3 p.m. announcement of Ohio wide receiver Jacoby Jones.

UCF now has seven spring transfer portal commitments: Safety Cedrick Hawkins (Ohio State), defensive end Nyjalik Kelly (Miami), defensive back Tre'Quon Fegans (USC), quarterback Jacurri Brown (Miami), running back Peny Boone (Toledo/Louisville), wide receiver Jacoby Jones and safety Sheldon Arnold II (East Tennessee State).

***Updated: UCF commit QB EJ Colson reclassifies to 2024***

UCF is among the finalists for EJ Colson, a Class of 2025 dual-threat quarterback from Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Ga.

Colson has made multiple trips to Orlando this year. He was offered during a January visit, returned for the spring game and was back again on June 10.

"It was amazing," Colson said of his latest trip. "My parents and I wanted to see the academic part of UCF. They broke it all down. We sat down for an hour and went over academics. They showed me the biology building, which is what I want to study. It was amazing."

As a sophomore, Colson led Cedar Grove to the state championship game while guiding his team to an 11-3 overall record. He completed 182-of-290 passes for 2,632 yards, 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. He rushed 127 times for 486 yards and 10 more scores.

UCF head coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Darin Hinshaw feel Colson would be a perfect fit.

"They were saying I'm everything they want in a QB," Colson said. "Coach Malzahn has done great with dual-threat quarterbacks like myself with the RPO game and the deep ball. Coach Hinshaw says everything I'm doing now (in high school) is what UCF is doing already. He loves how I play. Coach Hinshaw was able to see me in practice during May and he also liked how I'm a leader on the field."

Above all, Colson prides himself on his leadership qualities.

"I'm always being vocal and pushing and encouraging my teammates," Colson said. "My dad instilled that in me. If a player messes up, I'm always like, 'Get back, next play.' As a quarterback, I feel I make good decisions. I try my best not to turn the ball over. I have great pocket presence. A lot of people have to look down to move around in the pocket, but one thing I'm always working on with my trainer is being able to move around while still looking downfield."

At the Rivals Camp in April, Colson was among the standout players:

While he is young and still developing it could be argued that the Georgia native had as strong of an arm as any quarterback that attended the camp. Colson can really spin it and proved more than capable of making even the hardest throws look routine.

Asked about what he likes most about UCF, Colson didn't hesitate.

"Coach Malzahn and Coach Hinshaw, definitely," Colson said. "They're amazing. I was able to get coached by them in my private workout and how they coach you is just top notch."

He met again with Malzahn before departing from his last visit.

"His message was that he loves me and loves my film," Colson said. "He loves the type of person I am. We sat down and talked about stuff away from football. He said he's really excited for my decision and is hoping it'll be UCF."

Quarterbacks typically make commitments sooner in their recruitment. Colson is planning to announce his decision next week.

There are four finalists: UCF, UAB, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech. Colson broke down the others.

UAB: "I really like the coaching staff. A lot of my guys went there from my past teams. I've got like three or four players there. It feels like home away from home. I could go in and compete for a job as a freshman."

Cincinnati: "Coach Pete (Thomas), he's coached some great dual-threat quarterbacks. We were able to sit down and watch film. He broke down stuff on the field and it was amazing. Coach (Brad) Glenn, he came there from Virginia Tech and actually offered me when he was there."

Virginia Tech: "I like their history. They've had great quarterbacks like Tyrod Taylor and Michael Vick. Coach (Brent) Pry, he's a very family-oriented person. The whole team is like a family. I was able to sit down in meetings with them and everybody loves one another. They go out and compete, but they're still brothers."

Colson will make his announcement on Thursday, July 6 at 7 p.m. from Byron Middle School. Colson said the decision would be live streamed from his Instagram. His username is 2wayy._ej.

"The big thing for me is academics," Colson said. "All my top schools are great football programs with great coaching staffs. I think it's going to boil down to academics and what's best for me in what I want to study."
