Offensive Lineman to commit Feb 1

Andrew Phelan out of East River to commit Feb 1. I'm not sure how it works but he will be on partial scholarship. He's currently 6'4" and 274 lean pounds for an offensive lineman. Apparently Hand is recruiting him.

He wants to be at UCF and wants to be here whether or not he's playing football. If we develop him and he turns out to be a good one, maybe he'll stay at this place.

UCF defensive back Justin Hodges started to come into his own last season.

After spending his freshman season in 2020 as a reserve cornerback, Hodges transitioned into UCF's primary slot corner/nickelback last season, a position this staff calls "Knight."

His 2021 season debut came in the fourth game at Navy after missing the first three weeks with an injury.

"I felt I took a lot from (last season)," Hodges said. "Mental wise, my IQ got better. I got faster, stronger and smarter all around."

He feels his best game came in the 24-7 win against Memphis on Oct. 22.

"I had two PBUs, a couple tackles," Hodges said. "I felt real comfortable that game. I was on it. "

Hodges has learned from other slot corners, including UCF alum Aaron Robinson who now plays for the New York Giants. On the current team, he has learned a lot from Divaad Wilson and Davonte Brown.

How does he like playing for Addison Williams and David Gibbs?

"I love playing for them," Hodges said. "They put you in the best opportunity to succeed."

What's the attitude of the defense?

"Ruthless," Hodges said.

How excited is he for the season?

"I can't even sleep and it's seven days away," Hodges said.

I followed by up by asking if Hodges "dreams" about the games. He says he does. Dreams about the plays he's going to make, running through the tunnel, etc.

The defense, through adversity last season and offseason team building, they came together more.

"I feel like this year, ain't nobody stopping us."

Goals?

"I just want to win. I want everybody to know UCF ain't no joke."

How can we market our players better?

Been thinking about this for a few days.
Other sports have had their issues marketing their players over the years. NBA after Jordan, NFL with non QBs, and the MLB in general have all had times where they've gotten criticism about making their players more visible, etc.
My thought is, if we market our players to be more well known. To be stars. Then, won't more companies actually want to do legit NIL business with them?
Kinda like, build the foundation and then the rest will follow. I actually think this is what Dreamfield was going for before things got insane.

Thoughts?

Pictures\Scoop from Coach Dawkins show, including #25 Taylor Hendricks & Women’s Softball Coach Cindy Ball-Malone.

Had a great chance to talk with Coach Dawkins and Women’s Softball Coach Cindy Ball-Malone last night.

#25 Forward Taylor Hendricks was the featured Basketball player.

Here are a few pictures and stories from the event.

First up Coach Dawkins.
I asked Coach Dawkins who of the seniors listed will not have anymore eligibility to play next year. He indicated #13 PJ Kelly and #2 Michael Durr do not have any more eligibility to play next year. However, everyone else listed on our roster as a senior can come back next year.

I also asked Coach Dawkins how the redshirt situation works in College Basketball. He indicated when the season first starts if you play in less than 6/7 games you can redshirt, however once Conferencee play starts if you play ANY minutes you can‘t redshirt anymore.

Bummers…still seems like our Point Guard #3 Darius Johnson will not be playing against Houston Wednesday evening. Let’s hope he makes it back by Saturday when we host Temple, although it’s all day to day. Of course the longer he misses, the lack of conditioning will play a factor on his effectiveness when he comes back.

#25 Taylor Hendricks was interviewed next.
Most of the interview was casual conversation.

UCF Women’s Softball Coach Cindy Ball-Malone was interviewed by Marc Daniels.
Lots of positive vibes about our Team, including our preseason #15 ranking.
We start the season at home Thursday February 9th against Georgia.

I had a chance to talk with her. No doubt we feel our Hitting and Defense will be very solid this year. We all know how important Pitching is in Softball. Between the returning pitchers, transfer pitchers and Freshman pitchers we hope to excell there also. Just a matter of time how things work out there.

Good stuff for sure…

OT: UCF professor fired after double life is exposed

Pamela Douglas was working as an assistant professor at UCF and as an assistant adjunct professor/researcher at UCLA simultaneously. Each job paid her $113,651 & $169,500 a year respectively. She resigned from her UCLA job on March 31, 2022 and was fired from UCF November 2022.

Douglas was employed at UCLA since 2011 and at UCF since 2016.

***UCF hosting OL transfer on official visit***

An offensive lineman from a PAC-12 school will be at UCF this weekend for an official visit.

Stanford center Drake Metcalf is currently en route from California to Orlando and will land at MCO around midnight, he told me earlier.

A four-star center in the Class of 2020, Metcalf is on track to be a spring graduate from Stanford with three years of eligibility remaining.

After redshirting in 2020, Metcalf appeared in all 12 games as a reserve in 2021. He saw action in a handful of games in 2022, including one start at right guard against Notre Dame.

Metcalf was Stanford's No. 2 center, backing up starter Drake Nugent. Both Nugent and Metcalf hit the NCAA Transfer Portal following the departure of Stanford head coach David Shaw. Nugent has already transferred to Michigan.

Metcalf graduated from storied St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif which was crowned National Champions during his senior season in 2019. He was a four-star center in the 2020 class, choosing Stanford over dozens of other schools that included USC, Oregon, TCU and Northwestern.

This will be Metcalf's second visit since hitting the portal. He took a trip to Northwestern last weekend.
