Let's send off our MKs in style

Friday at noon the Marching Knights are going to send 70-80 kids in two busses to New Orleans to help our fans cheer on our Knights and bring home the AAC trophy.

Anyone at the game Saturday knows the lightning the MKs brought to our fans at the Ray Jay. For those that don't know the Marching Knights take Marching Band as two credit class. They volunteer their time and many are not music majors. They are not on any kind of athletic scholarship and do what they do because they love UCF. They do it for us and for the team .

So, on Friday if you have time ,please show up at noon at the parking lot near the intramural fields and the MK practice facility and send the kids off to NOLA in style . I would be there but I live 3 states away . Let's let them know how much we appreciate them!

They are taking two busses with 70-80 out of the 400 . GKCO!

Bianchi: After this thriller, will someone please save ‘War on I-4′ rivalry?

This is my plea to Mohajir and Kelly: Do something – anything! – to save this rivalry. Do whatever you have to do – finagle your schedule, cancel other non-conference games, play a neutral site game in freaking Lakeland if you have to – just don’t let this rivalry and revelry die.

I’m not trying to tell Kelly how to do his job, but if I were him I would be doing everything in my power to move things around to make room for UCF. Let’s be honest, the Bulls now need this series more than UCF. The Knights will have plenty of marquee matchups once they move to the Big 12, but USF is in desperate need of games that will fire up its dwindling, downtrodden fan base. Those games will be hard to come by in a restructured American that is adding teams such as – yawn – UAB, FAU, North Texas, Texas-San Antonio (another yawn), Rice and UNC-Charlotte.

In other words, USF is now in the same predicament UCF was in more than a decade ago. That’s why there are some UCF fans who are still understandably bitter about how USF haughtily ended the rivalry in 2008 when the Bulls had moved up to the Big East and left UCF behind in Conference USA. USF’s arrogance back then was inexcusable and, hopefully, UCF will never be so shortsighted.

Even though UCF is moving up in weight classification, the Knights still need an in-state rival. In fact, I think every college football team should have an in-state rival or at least a neighboring state rival. After all, college football was built on the passion and pageantry of geographic rivalries.

Yes, UCF will have more important games against more quality opponents in the Big 12, but it still won’t have a rival like USF. Every college football team should have a “hate game” – a game where the fans and the players know each other, talk trash to each other and, quite frankly, need each other to make the college football season as fun and frolicking as it can possibly be.

The Road to #1 -- It's Officially a 'Bull Market!'

There's no winless FBS team this year, so ... the Cows -- with only 1 win -- are still in the Hunt for the Bottom 10 Championship!

The Cows started the month of October on the 'Waiting List' ...
Waiting List: U-Can't, US(not C)F, Georgia State Not Southern, Arizona Skate, Strandford, FI(notA)U, Utah State Other Other Aggies, Lose-iana Tech, firing a guy who had you in the Rose Bowl like 10 minutes ago.

And they were #8 last week ...
i
8. US(notC)F (1-6)
The Bulls have mostly hovered around this list all season because if one watches them closely enough, they know that this team has been competitive in a lot of games against much more talented teams. But when you get into the second half of October and you are one of only seven FBS teams with one win, then you become like Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction," screaming from the pirate ship at Raymond James Stadium, "I won't be IGNORED, DAN!" Dan being me, wondering where my rabbit went.

And moved up to #7 this week ...
i
7. US(notC)F (1-6)
This weekend the Bulls kick off in Houston at noon ET, two hours before Charlotte plays at Rice, which is only 5 miles away. If they lose to the Cougars, they should drive over to Rice Stadium, buy a bunch of tickets and watch, but keep their uniforms on. That way if Charlotte loses too, USF could just run out onto the field to the "West Side Story" rumble song and challenge the Niners to the first-ever Impromptu Pillow Fight of the Week.

This column never gets old!

***UCF TE Alec Holler reflects on 'Holy Holler' TD catch, goal of winning a championship ⚔🏈

Alec Holler is living his dream.

The tight end's journey to UCF began in some respects as a young fan sitting in the stands and cheering on his favorite team.

A local standout at Trinity Prep, Holler would enroll as a walk-on and dealt with early adversity, tearing an ACL not long into his career. He persevered the first few years, eventually earning a scholarship shortly after Gus Malzahn's arrival and developing into one of the offense's key players.

"The dream is coming true," Holler said this week. "They talk about Orlando and dreams coming true at Disney World. At UCF, dreams come true. I think that as a player when you come here, you're put on a big stage. You have a lot of opportunity to make big plays and make your dreams come true in terms of your college football career and even beyond that. You've seen a lot of guys that go on to the NFL."

As UCF has made their run to the American Athletic Conference Championship, Holler's play on the field has made all the difference.

He juked defenders and sacrificed his body to earn a game-clinching first down in the win at Memphis. Last week at South Florida, Holler had the concentration to reel in the game-winning touchdown catch with one hand all the while making sure his toe scraped the pylon. It's spurring debates about whether it's the greatest catch in UCF history. Some are calling the play, 'Holy Holler.'

He reflected on that fantastic catch.

"At the time, I guess it hadn't set in, the gravity of what happened, making the big catch to win," Holler said. "It honestly didn't feel as hard at the time because I feel Mikey's ball was so good that it kind of stuck in my hand when I caught it and got the foot in. It was an amazing play. I'm so glad that I made it."

Holler said his phone was "blowing up" after the game.

"I was getting texts from people I haven't heard from in a while," Holler said. "Just a lot of support. I really appreciate it, all the messages. Knight Nation and all the energy for our whole team after winning that game."

Holler wanted to bring attention though to that entire final drive. He had the glory of the touchdown catch, but there were several critical plays during the 82-yard drive. A huge one was Mikey Keene's scramble and then finding Javon Baker 41 yards down the field.

"Something that's not getting enough credit is the whole drive," Holler said. "Javon's catch was phenomenal. That should have been a SportsCenter Top 10 play in itself. Without that play and the whole offense coming together on that final drive, the play doesn't even happen."

Holler's first season at UCF was in 2018, which was the last time the Knights won a conference championship.

"I was a scout guy and we went on to play in the Fiesta Bowl against LSU," Holler said. "Now as an older guy and a guy that's contributing on the field, I think our whole team wants to leave a stamp on our legacy in UCF history. This is a moment that can seize and really put our stamp on it."

In fact, moments after the thrilling win in Tampa, offensive lineman Sam Jackson spoke to the team to make sure their focus is where it should be.

"Right after the win, we're holding up the War on I-4 trophy and five minutes later Sam brings us up," Holler said. He said guys, the mission is not done yet. We've got a championship next week. We're playing Tulane, a great team. It's all hands on deck. It's time to win a championship right here and put a stamp on all our legacies at UCF."
