UCF linebacker Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste has taken his game to another level this season. At the halfway point, the senior has been the defense's top performer with a 77.1 overall PFF grade. The Miami native spoke to the media this week in advance of this Saturday's game at ECU.

JJB said his focus this season has been to be more consistent and never being too comfortable with success.

"Stay greedy and never get too comfortable with your success. Keep chopping wood and progressing to be better on and off the field."

He's forged a close connection with fellow LB Jason Johnson. They talk a lot and already had good chemistry going into the season. They're close off the field as well.

Playing a road game, he knows it'll be a challenge but they're confident.

On ECU, they respect them. QB Holton Ahlers is a veteran.

They're not worried about Cincinnati, only focused on ECU (was asked a question about a trap game).

Ahlers is a left-handed QB that looks like a LB. In a question, it was mentioned that Ahlers is big and doesn't mind taking on defenders instead of sliding. If that's the case, "We're going to come and hit you."

ECU RB Keaton Mitchell is shifty, likes to get in the open space. "As a defense, we're going to contain him."

LB Kam Moore made his debut vs. Temple. He's tried to mentor him this season. Was happy to see him play.

He didn't see a drop-off from the reserves playing vs. Temple.

JJB said he's so passionate about football. He's happy to see his brothers make plays. They build each other up.

Asked about if he likes playing road games, it's all a mind game. If you can be mentally strong on the road, you can be strong anywhere.

UCF has the No. 1 red zone defense in the country. There's a lot of pride in keeping them out of the end zone.

Eastern NC is known for their BBQ. Is JJB a barbecue guy? Does he enjoy ribs, pork or brisket? The only place he knows is "Cook Out" which is a fast-food restaurant. He's not a big BBQ guy.

***Flashback to Hail Perriman ⚔🏴‍☠️🏈🎥

As the sun appears to be setting on the "rivalry" with ECU, let's take a walk down Memory Lane and remember that epic 2014 game in Greenville.

There were so many exciting finishes in 2013/14, I think the Football Gods had no choice but to give UCF the 2015 winless season.

The Hail Perriman game probably ranks at the top. It wasn't just a win against your conference rival - that single play clinched the first time UCF won back-to-back conference championships.

UCF didn't have any marquee P5 wins in 2014 (lost to Penn State in Dublin and Missouri), and unfortunately dropped their only conference game on the road at UConn, so the New Year's Six bowl was not in play. Boise State got it that year and played Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl.

As for that ECU game, UCF appeared to be in control. They led 26-9 going into the fourth quarter (Shawn Moffitt made four field goals) before ECU was able to capitalize on three touchdown drives to go on top with 2:17 to go. UCF got the ball - did nothing with it in four downs (had a false start and a sack).

ECU got the ball with 1:47 left on UCF's 15 yard line! They essentially went into victory formation, but kept on going backwards. On the fourth down play, Shane Carden (who is viewed as one of the best QBs in ECU history) took a sack. During that drive, ECU LOST 20 yards.

So with 10 seconds left, Justin Holman had time to pick up 14 yards with a quick sideline pass to Josh Reese (who got out of bounds) and then put it up there for Breshad Perriman to catch it. The ECU DBs totally whiffed - I'll never forget the image of the one dude just standing there getting ready to pull off his chin strap so he could take his helmet off to celebrate.

It was an absolutely surreal moment.

It was also George O'Leary's final win at UCF.

Amazing finish to clinch a championship... This should have been the perfect ending.

UCF went on to play NC State in the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl, losing 34-27. Then we all know what happened in 2015.

What do you remember about the Hail Perriman game? Did you watch until the end? Did you turn off the TV? I can't remember who, but there was a poor chap on here that was in attendance and LEFT THE STADIUM because he thought the game was over.

Here's the ESPN footage of the final sequence:

Just visited the UNC Basketball Museum

Short drive from RDU, totally free and really cool. Worth checking out if you're flying up this way. Arena was locked though. Will post more later. Headed to Greenville now.

Heupel's big test this Saturday. Bama @Tenn

Tenn ranked #6 with Bama coming to town. Heupel's big test coming up. I'm torn who I'm pulling for....

"The school hired former University of Central Florida athletic director Danny White, who in turn hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel. The team was better than expected in 2021, and now, just a year later, the Vols look nationally elite. That it seems a bit unlikely — but not impossible — that the Vols can conquer Bama tells you just how astonishingly fast the turnaround in Knoxville has been."

The $100M UCF Athletics Budget

I made a post in the other thread, but this is a crucial component to UCF's long-term Success. Here are the important items from the 2020 Financials for Oklahoma State:

Total Media Rights:
$32,128,494
NCAA Distributions:
$569,391
Conference Distribution:
$125,701
Conference Distribution of Bowl Revenue:
$11,269,620
Bowl Revenue:
$1,506,003
Total:
$45,599,209

So with media rights at $40M and Conf distributions/bowl Revenue of $12.7, we are around $53M. I am assuming the distributions will increase with the Playoff expansion.

FTR, OSU has a $93M total revenue. $13.5M in tickets, $25M in contributions, $5M licensing, etc.

Below is a combination of UCF's 2019 and 2020 Financials which is an approximately $62M budget. . Simply replacing a $40M media number and NCAA distributions less the current media and NCAA distribtuion, we are right at a $100M budget.

Operating revenues:
Student fees24,190,962
Game tickets6,728,686
Conference and NCAA distributions$42,772,052
Contributions from donors7,680,269
Game guarantees$480,000
Scholarship support$8,900,000
Sponsorships$9,048,003
Other operating revenues$875,008
Total operating revenues100,674,980

B&G Block Party: A prelude to Gameday?

Got this text today from UCF. Not sure if they would do this if Gameday was coming since that is usually setup day and the bus rolled in Friday last year, but it could also be a reason to get people out for that reason too.

Hi <first name>, it's Kristen from UCF Alumni! We have a BRAND NEW Homecoming tradition taking place next Friday, Oct. 28 called the Black and Gold Block Party! Would you be interested in taking over Memory Mall with us? ⚡
