Happy New Year and Cincy

Happy New Year ..many of us watched Cincy yesterday and it was what I expected in terns of the results . I then started to think about us and what a tumultuous five years our program has seen versus what Cincy did. It was crazy in 17 when Frost was blowing through teams like a hot knife through butter . We destroyed Fickle in his first year and the game was called in the 3rd for thunderstorms.

Frost leaves and Heuple comes in and we beat them again in 2018 with Game Day and boy were we on top of the world that night. Then the unthinkable happens to KZ and sock boi takes over . We don't beat them again, the Hippo leaves and in comes Gus.

Meanwhile, Fickle continues to craft and build his program and in part because of the noise UCF made in 17&18 his team breaks in and plays in the invitational. Cincy had stability and good recruiting while we were in flux and a lot JHs kids are gone .

I know I am stating the obvious here , but to be successful we need a good to great quarterback to build an offense around and a solid D and we need a coach here for 4 plus years to do it. The BigXII is wide open with Oklahoma going to the SEC. There is no Alabama to beat to even make the playoff . I understand why Gus says this is the place of the future of college football given the conference jump. However, we don't get to that future without him being successful on the field and staying for a long term period.

All the teams we see playing for the big prize have coaches who are there for the long haul . It's the only path in my opinion to success for UCF football. I hope Gus is that guy for us . Otherwise we will be just another UCF one hit wonder program with the ever self proclaimed title thrown in our faces by fans and ESPN commentators.

February signings: 1 OL, 1 DL, and some PWO to that Port Charlotte WR and, if he hasn’t signed anywhere, the Cocoa QB. There is going to be serious HS talent that isn’t going to have offers. Florida kids with Bright Futures could be a factor in landing some talent as walk-on’s

Is this year's PAC-12 the worst P5 conference in P5 history?

Is this year's PAC-12 the worst P5 conference in P5 history?

  • Yes - should lose their P5 tag

    Votes: 30 81.1%
  • No - they still belong at the table even without a bowl win

    Votes: 7 18.9%

I thought during the COVID year when a .500 team won their conference it was rock bottom but I'm not sure. This year, this conference looks in disarray. Oregon got a huge upset over Ohio State but outside of that, they've continued to be punished by a variety of teams out of conference.

Happy New Year! What are your UCF predictions for 2021? 🍾🥂

This is the last day of 2020 - good riddance!

With 2021 on the horizon, and with that hopefully a return to a semblance of "normalcy" by next fall, what do you foresee for UCF Athletics in the calendar year 2021? It can be anything, football related, athletic department, hoops, baseball, coaches, player-related, conferences, etc.

Let's see who is prophetic! Hopefully this ages better than the November 2016 Milton thread. 🤣

OT: Daniels Idea: Should non-NYD6 Bowl Games be played on Labor Day Weekend?

Marc has mentioned this a few times as a way to drum up interest to "bowl games" that are struggling in this CFP era as opt-outs are even hitting NYD6 Bowls too.

He notes that the NFL has no interest in playing games on Labor Day Weekend so why not have the Cheeze-it Bowl to be played on Saturday and Citrus Bowl be played on Monday night...with teams "slotted" based on their conf standings the previous season?

Fans would have 9 months to make travel plans and most of these games would probably even sellout...as fans would be pumped about their Season Opening Game (all teams are 0-0 and have a "chance" at a great year), plus have 9 months to make plans to travel.

While I don't see this happening...but once the CFP goes to 12 games....I could see how some of those minor bowls might take a look at it...as ESPN could have a Bowl Week from Thursday Night before Labor Day Weekend to that Friday night, all day Saturday, all day Sunday and even all day on Labor Day.

Note: 7 Teams have backed out this year forcing some bowls to cancel all together...as some teams just "didn't want to play" (i.e. Miami, who canceled some 9 days in advance) but used Covid as an excuse.

UCF: Future Powerhouse program in the "P5"?

Our fans talk like they want a top 10 program. Our brand has grown nationally in the past 10-15 years more than anyone's IMO. Question is do we have the alumni support to become a true blue blood and make it happen as we continue to be the disruptor to the old guard.

Will we be closer to Arizona State/NC State as a P5 or will we truly do what it takes as a fan base to be a top 10 playoff contender in the next 10+ years.
