2023 AAC Tournament schedule

FAU big basketball budget got them that #9 seed.
How did FAU become a 9 seed with so little investment?* their arena is a garage*

You can see they are a basketball first school, look at the fan support.

Nothing to do with coaching who has progressively improved every season during his 5 years at FAU.

2018-19 - 9th in conference
2019-20 - 9th
2020-21 - 4th
2021-22 - 2nd
2022-23 - Champions

Prior to their coach arriving team previous 5 years never won more than 12 games and finished 11th or worse in conference.

I'm not sure what in this recent thread is sarcasm or not but FAU isn't a "basketball first school". Their gym is in fact not very nice and I believe they have happened to have gotten lucky in what many sports writers consider one of the worst jobs in CUSA.

A broken clock is right twice a day and it'll be a matter of short time before their back to the bottom, imo.

Their coach is doing it the right way. He recruits local kids that are good that the top tier schools didn’t want. They are playing together and are gelling. When you have the core of your team that have played together, you get good results.

So you are saying there is a good, young up and coming coach that is familiar with recruiting in Florida that is also currently making 1/3 of what UCF is currently spending.

Can't guaranteed future success, but probably could easily hire him for a lot less than what Dawkins is getting and see if he pans out, and if he does, will have the built up resources and conference affiliation to keep him

Good coach. Ex Bobby Knight manager. U r right kids stay but his roster is mostly non local, maybe 3 u would consider local

4 within 60 miles I guess. 7 instate. One is from Puerto Rico but went to High School at St Andrews which is in Boca. More important part is the kids coming as freshman and not leaving. Have a couple transfers but not most of the main players.

The kid from PR walked on n just received a scholarship. Has 2-3 kids from S Florida https://fausports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

Agreed he is a good coach he gets the best out of his players. Bobby Knight influence. They r gonna have to go beyond what they ever paid a bball coach to keep May, whose kid is a walk on at UCF. Brought a nice core back from last year in a weak CUSA The Boca living probably isn’t enough to keep him at FAU as he’s gonna get some bigger money offers.

3 from S Fla and 7 from Florida that didn’t transfer in. We have 5 from Florida that didn’t transfer in and 3 are walk ons that will never get scholarships and only Pooh gets minutes in blowouts. Hendricks brother may not ever play either. Not sure.

One of the UCF walk ons is Mays son He has an older one who walked on at UF

Why wouldn’t they walk on where the Dad is the coach?

He probably wanted him to go to a bigger school ( FAU is it is a commuter school that empties out after classes at night and over the weekend. Not unlike Ucf was decades ago) His older son probably went to UF because the AD at FAU’s brother was the basketball coach there. As for Ucf, he probably has great respect for their Coaching staff too.

I would think playing is more important than a school where kids live on campus.
You have to find a school that you can play at. If you’re looking for a D1 school, they r not D1 scholarship players and these r their best options to get exposed to D1. A lot of kids are about the D1 experience
