Are you willing to stick with a HC for 9 years for a NC?

I have been very vocal about loyality. Too many college athletic programs scapegoat HC for larger issues. Heck for most of D1 history, basketball teams would cut half of their players.

If we expect loyalty of players we, UCF as institution need to be loyal to our coaches. We have a good track record. Let's not change that.

Let's honor our contract. But also stop with these stupid long extensions. Nothing should be over 5 years.

Amen!

Gus Malzahn is at UCF because Auburn was fractured in its support and it filtered throughout every aspect of the program: recruiting, budgeting, hiring, facility upgrades, etc.

Auburn is 17-22 since severing ties with Gus.

A valuable lesson can be learned.

Support the coach (until he is fired or you find someone better) and improve every aspect of the program in the meantime.

That is how you build a championship program!

Gus will be my coach as long as we see continued success on and off the field. Unlike a lot of the UCF fans, I tempered my expectations going into the Big12. I figured Y1 we would be 6-6 as we would struggle at the end of the year with injuries. I feel I was right for the wrong reasons - we struggled with injuries but mid year vs end of year. As long as the team shows progress every year, I'm OK with Gus staying and he has my support. However, I want to see improvements next year. I'd like to see improvements as follows:
1) The defense needs to show improvement and be able to stop the run. Baylor, Kansas, and KState just ran the ball through our defense like a hot knife through butter. We didn't look good on either side of the ball in those 3 games. The Big12 likes the air raid offense but if they can run the ball and score at will, they will do that first and burn a lot of time off the clock just to close out the game.
2) I want to see improvement on our DL and OL. I think this is a recruiting issue moreso than anything else. We just need bigger guys to compete with the existing teams in the Big12. We can do 1-2 games per year with the size of guys we currently have but weekly isn't sustainable.
3) With JRP leaving, I want to see Gus and his staff develop a QB. I thought JRP improved this year vs last year but he still ended up injured for a significant period of time. I'd like to see Timmy get more time as I think he could do it but he needs more coaching. I'm not a fan of hiring a mercenary QB to come in for 1 year but I get it, that is what the current environment gets us. I just want to see that we developed a QB that will be here for several years like KZ.

My takeaways from the team has been UCF can score points and score quickly. However, we always have one quarter where the team just slides into mediocrity in the game and the other team scores multiple times and the game is now in reach. I don't care if the games are close because both teams are good - I just don't want to see UCF lose a game because we look bad on the field. Even though we lost to Oklahoma, that was how I wanted my team to play. We were consistent and made plays. I'd prefer we play every game like we did vs Oklahoma State but I think that was more on OSU screwing up and us taking advantage at every opportunity.

injuries on defense as I thought that was the reason we lost several games. There were several games where I felt that we were not able to tackle or do anything.

Love him or hate him, Gus is going to win a national championship that is recognized outside the State of Orlando and City of Indianapolis.
This is why people don’t like you, saying dumb stuff like this. It’s recognized by well more than Orlando, and the more time goes by the more and more it’s accepted by the masses.

Nobody could really expect the team to readily compete the first season. However, getting dominated in back to back bowls against mediocre ACC teams when UCF is playing pretty much all their starters isn't inspiring any confidence. Unless we want to subscribe to the idea that Malzahn doesn't actually care about bowls and isn't prepping the team.

I think his point is NO national championship-winning coach had been with his program fewer than five consecutive seasons before winning the title since Gene Chizik (i.e, GUS MALZAHN) in Year Two!.

Also, at least 1/4 of the P5 coaches who have been at their schools for at least nine years have won a national championship.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul..

Coaches with their team less than 5 years and won a NC since 2010.. Nick Saban, Urban Myer and Ed Oregeron.

As for Harbaugh... Michigan is the Astros of College Football and are playing the victim.. I just dont get it. (Pete Carroll should be pissed)

I would rather tell you the truth, even when it isn't convenient, popular, or fair, than be liked.

In the spirit of fairness, I will add "and the surrounding suburban spawn as well as pockets of houses beyond." That is all you get.

Auburn did NOT win the National Championship in the 2004. USC beat Oklahoma. USC vacated the title. That doesn't mean Auburn is the champion.

No. I miswrote My reply was supposed to be about longevity and dedicating time to a coach. All of the coaches were given at least five years, save Chizik. Chizik was given only four seasons (because Auburn wanted Gus Malzahn back).

"I think his point is NO national championship-winning coach had been with his program fewer than five consecutive seasons *HAVING WON* the title since Gene Chizik (i.e, GUS MALZAHN) in Year Two!.

That's how it should have read.

I am idiot for entertaining this argument.

A man with one losing season in a decade of coaching is better than a man with one winning season in less than a decade of being allowed to coach.

A more with more than 100 career wins (66 more wins than the other guy) is better at coaching than a man with 35 career wns against 38 career losses.

Gus has two winning seasons and more career victories at UCF than Scott Frost. Gus's WORST season of his career is Frost's second best season of his career. Gus's WORST loss of his time at Auburn is Frost's biggest win of his career.
I would agree that the argument as presented is idiotic. To compare wins and not recognize that the coach with more wins has had more seasons to compile those wins. The fact of the matter is Scott Frost was 6-7 in his first year at UCF and Gus Malzahn is 6-7 in his 3rd year at UCF. Scott Frost went undefeated and won the AAC in his second year at UCF and Gus has never gone undefeated as a Head Coach nor did he ever win the AAC in his two years in the AAC. Scott Frost never blew a 35-7 lead midway through the 3rd quater. I’m not saying Gus can’t do it (win big at UCF), I’m saying that each year we have losses at home to the likes of Navy and now Baylor we have more data points to conclude that perhaps Gus has lost a step or two.

Let's calm down with the women like social stigmatizing personal attacks and stick with the UCFacts

"Others'" personal UCFeelings don't matter

Just have to say, it is hilarious the suggestion that Malzahn (translated 'Bad tooth' look it up) should demand more money since we're the program that beat his sorry team for a fantastic victory. He was fired, he was damn lucky to get the job. Sorry, but it's stupid to fire a coach expecting more in the first year in a new BCS/P5 conference. OH, I forgot, we actually did win the conference the first year we entered a better conference--- then we humiliated the Big XII champion. So please newlings, try to understand that UCF fans, other than me, didn't expect that to happen again, but they did expect a more intelligent game planner than what we have. A RB throwing the pass to tie/win the game--- and then the answer "..if it worked everyone would love me." Not to mention the absolutely horrendous Baylor game. Anyone not fully attached to the HC's ...... could understand what could have been and what he delivered. And finally then to be defeated in a bowl game by the 'run up the middle for 3 yards' coach. We've got a great recruiting class, I'm guessing a pretty good transfer class, all we need is a HC and and AD that lives in 2024. Prove it.
