36-33 at the half UNC-A up. UCF looks pretty good. Asheville was shooting really good with UCF catching up near the half.
I've been sayiing this for "years" Dawkins can't coach, never has been a decent coach. If UCF has to go 0-26, so be it. This opponent is a Div II team. Dawlins can't even recruit a competitive squad. Fundamentally they are a disaster. He suck, period. It's time the AD does his job and cans this guy.
UNC Asheville coach is energetic, interactive with his team. Dawkins acts like he is in the library and afraid to make any movements.

Yes. I can’t be mad. I wasn’t expecting a good game and knew very little about the new players. UCF will get better. Taylor Hendricks wow. Future star. 3 Starters out for this game. Asheville was an impressive team. Well coached and looked more energetic at the end. Could have gone either way. I just signed up for espn+ tonight and glad I did to see this game.
Pember is a transfer from Tennessee. This is his second season at UNC Asheville and is a Senior. He was a 15.7 pt, 6.6 rebound 3 blocks/game, 1.6 assist/game guy last season that also shot 36% from 3 pt land.
Losing is never good. That said, the three guys leftover from last years team weren’t dressed. We played 9 new guys that have never played a game together. UNC Asheville played 9 guys…all Juniors and Seniors. Not saying they are good/great but in college hoops teams can do damage that have “crafty veterans”. We’ll see how they turn out.
Hendricks is going to be a problem. First player in a long time that doesn’t look like a scared, timid, hesitant freshman. He was actually calling for the ball in the post several times when he had mismatches (and they should have fed it to him but didn’t).
A loss like that should be good for them. It’ll eat at them because victory was right there but the other team scraped, scratched and clawed for everything.

How are 4 guys hurt before we play a game? I watched first half. 8:30 start too late for me. Wish i could have watched. I hate not having names on back of jerseys. Especially when most of team is new. Hope the next game starts earlier.

Definitely hasn’t been good but 2 or 3 starters were out last night. Pretty much our only returning guys. Not sure if they were really hurt though. Seems odd the returners were all hurt.
Good point they haven't even played a game. Are they in that bad of shape where they can't make it through fall camp?
UNC Asheville is not DII. They are DI just like us and have a respectable basketball program.
UNC Asheville has had 1 winning season in the last 4 years, going 46-68. Home opener is generally a cupcake game, and they lost.
But the bar is set so low for Dawkins, as long as he can muster .500 in the AAC he continues on. In B12 he will just have to be around .300-.400.

Why in year 7 is the team full of players that never played together? Why does every player that shows talent transfers from the team after a year or two?
He hasn’t been able to recruit high school kids so hes been targeting transfers. 2 of the 4 that sat out last night were transfers. The other is our PG who is the son of our assistant coach. The other is Hendricks brother. Im betting he may redshirt. He doesn’t look as big as brother but he was in street clothes. So usually every 2 years we have a completely different team. Next year will be same when 6 guys leave.
Trust me, I live in Asheville and they play like Div II. You are just another esxcuse-monger for Dawkins. I feel sorry for the only two decent young guys that could have gone to a good program. Concentrate on your education. At least the U offers that.

It’s game #1. Let’s see how 9 new players + 3 injured guys from last season that didn’t play yesterday do over the course of the season. Moving to the Big 12 in every sport is going to have growing pains. Mens bbal even more because right now it is a top 3 conference, and other than 1 or 2 seasons, we’ve never played at a consistently high level.
This is pretty much every program now. We are a bit extreme this season but he’s getting bodies to play in the Big 12. Some of these transfers might not have even considered us otherwise.
