While perhaps fun and exciting, it was also frustrating to see us turn the ball over 20 times. It was a really tough test on the road. I think umass gave us all they could give, but we struggled in some areas.
Aj Davis got the start over Efianayi. Aj is still shaking off the rust and figuring out his role with this new team.
Player of the game:
Efianayi got us the win today, playing off the bench!! 24 pts 2 ast 3 rebs and zero turnovers!! 2-2 from 3pt.
Good:
Banyard also had a good game. 10 pts, 3 ast, 9 rebs, 2 TO. 2-3 from 3pt. He hit the game winner. Clutch shot!!
OK:
Tacko was ok but not at his best potential. 9 pts, 16 rebs, had 1 great ast, 2 blk, 1stl, 3 TO. He hit some clutch free throws! He touched or tipped the ball many times, but couldn't get anything going.
Bad:
BJ was ok with 9 pts, 3 ast, 2 rebs, 2 stl, but had 4 TO and one at the end of the game and fouled the player giving a 3 point chance. Stupid play with 4 fouls!
Ugly:
AJ Davis with 4 points in 28 mins. 5 rebs, 1 stl, 1 blk, but 5 TOs! 1-4 from FG.
Matt Williams had 7pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast, 4 TO. He was 2-10 FG and 1-7 on 3PT.
Uglier:
Refs- as a fan you're never happy with the refs and you never get all the calls. Yes we had 30 FT to their 9 (their coach complained about that), but I felt we were abused and beaten up all night. The pressure that Umass put on us combined with many no-calls hurt us. Having a short bench also keeps us from playing more aggressive.
AnywYs, just some thoughts I had from the game. This was our first close win and I'm really proud of the team for pulling it out. It takes a team effort! I'm looking forward to AJ feeling more comfortable and with Matt hitting his shots again. This team has me excited for conference play!! It's going to be a fun year!!
