Basketball vs UMASS

I really like this A10 network better than ESP5N 3. The AAC needs to do this.

"That's what we live for!" -- Dawkins
"Don't let 'em speed us up, was what Coach kept telling us." -- Tank

So many chances for UCF to fold, but they never lost the composure. Playing on the road takes maturity we haven't had since the Marcus-Keith-Isaiah days.

While perhaps fun and exciting, it was also frustrating to see us turn the ball over 20 times. It was a really tough test on the road. I think umass gave us all they could give, but we struggled in some areas.

Aj Davis got the start over Efianayi. Aj is still shaking off the rust and figuring out his role with this new team.

Player of the game:
Efianayi got us the win today, playing off the bench!! 24 pts 2 ast 3 rebs and zero turnovers!! 2-2 from 3pt.

Good:
Banyard also had a good game. 10 pts, 3 ast, 9 rebs, 2 TO. 2-3 from 3pt. He hit the game winner. Clutch shot!!

OK:
Tacko was ok but not at his best potential. 9 pts, 16 rebs, had 1 great ast, 2 blk, 1stl, 3 TO. He hit some clutch free throws! He touched or tipped the ball many times, but couldn't get anything going.

Bad:
BJ was ok with 9 pts, 3 ast, 2 rebs, 2 stl, but had 4 TO and one at the end of the game and fouled the player giving a 3 point chance. Stupid play with 4 fouls!

Ugly:
AJ Davis with 4 points in 28 mins. 5 rebs, 1 stl, 1 blk, but 5 TOs! 1-4 from FG.
Matt Williams had 7pts, 4 rebs, 2 ast, 4 TO. He was 2-10 FG and 1-7 on 3PT.

Uglier:
Refs- as a fan you're never happy with the refs and you never get all the calls. Yes we had 30 FT to their 9 (their coach complained about that), but I felt we were abused and beaten up all night. The pressure that Umass put on us combined with many no-calls hurt us. Having a short bench also keeps us from playing more aggressive.

AnywYs, just some thoughts I had from the game. This was our first close win and I'm really proud of the team for pulling it out. It takes a team effort! I'm looking forward to AJ feeling more comfortable and with Matt hitting his shots again. This team has me excited for conference play!! It's going to be a fun year!!

The high turnover issue occurred in the 'Nova game as well as several other. The big difference is that most (15 of 20) were ruled legit steals. That's defense, not sloppy passes, stepping out or losing it bounds, traveling, offensive fouls, etc. that we suffered loads of in other games. We played a talented, well-coached pressing team in their house -- our last major test before we start the conference season in 4 weeks.
BJ lost his composure against a more athletic opponent who will do that to everyone else he faces refs continue to let him get roughed up without a whistle. It's one reason Marcus quit the game.

Did you catch the part when they said, "UCF has a guy in with no name on his back and his number is not listed on the roster!?" Yet within a minute, he knew his name. These guys may have been homers, but they knew their stuff. They realized this was a classic battle of two excellent teams giving their all. Extremely entertaining and riveting.

Looks like Dawkins copied Donnie's practice of putting Tacko on the base line guarding the length of the court inbound pass. But the ref allowed the UMass player to step way back (even moved the sitting cheerleaders)! That's not kosher, but what did we expect from these refs?

Haha. Yeah. I found their massive homerism was entertaining.

I really liked that you pause rewind and go live which I don't think you can do on ESPN 3. Fast access and free. We need that.
