But he can regale you of stories from 1950. His cognitive ability is largely reduced to strong memories of his past, and his critical thinking skills are very much diminished. He speaks well in generalities, but details really mess him up.
What deal does Biden want Trump to negotiate? One where the virus goes home? Or maybe one where Pelosi actually tries to move the second relief package along?

Back in the day, the word was that Ronald Reagan was too old and way too radical to be President. Once he got on the debate stage with Jimmy Carter, all Ronnie had to do was "act Presidential" and the race was over.

Read about Reagan's first debate with Mondale, one of the takeaways is how confused Reagan seemed throughout the night. The second debate he was much better, and that is where he had his famous line about he wasnt going to make an issue of his opponents youth. He said that because after the first debate people were concerned about his age because he seemed so out of it.

I have read that the Trump team is concerned about this. They have made Biden out to be a blabbering idiot, so even if he just does ok at a debate, it will look much better just because of the low expectations that they have set.

My thoughts on this reaction have been consistent since the very first days. It has nothing to do with some existential argument about the virus. It has everything to do with the behavior of the media and leadership in reaction to the virus and how it has pushed public sentiment and created hysteria. The leadership has either exploited this virus to score political points or allowed ignorant public hysteria to push dangerous policy decisions that have done more harm than good and were unnecessary from the beginning. But hey, I only work on biodefense systems and CONOPS for a living. What the hell do I know?

Apparently, not much. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that following the advice of the world's leading viral scientists would be a start. Once upon a time, the Trump Administration actually laid out some solid recommendations for reopening the economy based on the recommendations of their scientists--and then proceeded to ignore them.
