Big 12 Expansion Stuff

The AAC should start their own round of expansion and go up to 16 teams. The BXII and CUSA won't exist in 10 years.

"Who would be added if the Big 12 went ahead?
There's little momentum to add four schools. So for now, Houston and Cincinnati are still the perceived leaders behind the scenes. Both of them have what insiders are terming "neighborhood problems." Houston is in the odd position where many schools in the Big 12 don't really want to add it but are increasingly realizing they probably need to.

The issue with Houston is that smaller schools around the league are worried about enabling the Cougars, essentially propping them up at the expense of their own programs. (Why would a recruit from the Houston area go all the way to Texas Tech if he could play in the Big 12 in his home city?) This is a problem that appears more prominent on the coach and athletic director level than the presidential level. On a smaller scale, West Virginia isn't enamored with adding Cincinnati for this reason. (This could be why South Florida has gained some buzz the past few weeks.)" Pete Thamel

South Florida?!?! Dafuq?!?!

We need to beat ecu! South Florida with their 25 fans doesn't deserve to be p5.

So basically they are gonna hold tight, refuse to sign a GOR and then bolt along with Texas when the times comes. Sounds like a dumpster fire. The American is looking pretty good right now :)

Not really. Even though some of the top teams may not be there it's still an overall step up and in quality much like the American is even though it's not the Big East we signed up for. The money would still be higher than the American even with a future substantial cut. Just look at Conference USA how they got gutted. Plus, it's as much about who you leave behind as who you join.

I was just glad we got a rose at the last ceremony. Sorry Memphis....

Another expansion consideration:

Tom Herman is slated to leave Houston and go to LSU. This would hurt their program and many
Texas schools don't like the idea of competing for Houston recruits.

WVU doesn't want CINN in Big 12.

If they're going to expand, they need to sell thinking outside of the box to help their league
be more competitve which would mean bringing USF and UCF (Florida connection) into
the league. Both Frost and Taggert are proving the value of FL recruits.
This is forward thinking for this league and not same old same old.

Oklahoma may leave, but Texas won't. They tried before and discovered that only they considered themselves special. The SEC told them fine, but no preferences. The insist on running the show.

They realize the Big 12 is like the old Big East; about to get jail house jumped.
The ultimate humiliation: USF gets invited and after they join, the Big 12 gets tossed from the P-5. That would be deja vu all over again for the bullies.
