In the Dungeon it was posted about Memphis putting BLM on their helmets
. It created a locked thread.
I commented on it and my thoughts are college sports should not be politicized and BLM has created a criticized proof way of promoting Marxism through race. It's not my word , it's all over the BLM website. They want reparations, socialism and universal basic income for African Americans. It's truly what BLM is aiming for and they packaged the plight of African Americans to shield themselves from any criticism. If you do criticize their stance they then pull out the 45 magnum of politics and label you a racist.
The George Floyd event is an abomination to the Bill of Rights. It's tyranny and abuse of power. I am standing up and saying that is wrong but I can not align myself with the BLM organization or website.
I watch sports, college sports , UCF in particular for entertainment and it's a great escape from my weekly duties. I do not watch it to hear what players and coaches think about issues of the day. I don't watch it for politics and in fact since everything is being politicized these days, college sports is a last bastion of merit based competition. I just want to sit and enjoy a game.
Now concerning Memphis, I would suggest putting BLM on a helmet is endorsing everything BLM wants. A university should remain neutral on such things because some students want Marxism while others do not . It seems to be setting up a hostile environment for those student athletes who prefer free markets, the Bill of Rights and the Rule of law. Do we not take Into account those members of the team , coaching staff and even the band who might have sympathy and concerns regarding police brutality but appreciate the rule of law, the Constitution and free markets?
I am almost certain if there was a conservative group promoting black lives that many on the other side of the issue would be up in arms over it being on a helmet. I would be bothered by it as well.
My observation is for 3 or 4 hours on a Saturday we are all Knight's. For that time period we are united as one group of fans and alumni regardless of who we vote for on a Tuesday in November. That's the spirit of sport and competition. I don't want that ruined and if you and I vote diferently that's ok,but we should both want sport to remain apolitical as much as possible. Otherwise,we will see the game we all love ruined at worse and tarnished at best. This Knight and season ticket holder will eventually check out and say goodbye to college sports if it becomes another venue to be woke and protest. I am not paying to go to a political rally. I am paying to be entertained and get away from it all for a few hours. It is my hope UCF doesn't go down this path.
