Covid19 State of FL Vaccine Thread 💉

Right now it is simply a supply issue. Thanks to the orange man we have a supply, and I expect Biden's handlers will get the supply up just like Trump would have. By the time the 3rd wave would have been due in the fall, we will be pretty good shape, as long as a new variant doesn't come along that the old vaccines wont help with.

I'm all for the elderly and high risk getting vaccines. My father (>70) has had the double shot, and my mother and brother should as well.

I just don't want to see it pushed on kids. The mRNA vaccines are nowhere near close to a full FDA trial, just general efficacy studies. We don't know the long-term effects. 2 of the 3 prior mRNA trials for other diseases had a significant number in just 3 years.

So while getting 95% efficacy with the SARS-CoV-2 payload was very good for a mRNA, far better than prior mRNA attempts for other diseases, it's only 95% for 2 months. Drops under 50% after 4 months.

It's worth for the elderly and high risk. And maybe even those 50+ come the fall-winter, when coronaviruses spread far faster. But we really shouldn't be pushing this on everyone. There is total immunity for Pharma, and there is no US federal program should you be a statistic with any long-term effects.

No reason for anyone under 20 to get the vaccine unless they have preexisting conditions.
I don't think Americans realize there was not a full FDA trial, and this is a completely new approach. 2 of 3 prior attempts with mRNA for other diseases caused a significant number of side effects withing a few years for a significant minority of people.

For the elderly, that's worth the risk. Any possibility at long-term effects aren't really an issue for them. Probably worth it for SARS-CoV-2 high risk factor groups too. But for young people over the next 50 years? When there's blanket legal immunity and no gov't program to cover side effects?

Everyone needs to realize the US FDA has not stated it is safe long-term. It has disclosed the immediate risks, which are negligible and not worse than some other vaccines. But the immediate effects are the only ones we know, from the limited trials that were focused on gaging effiacy.

We've already had a full magnitude more deaths than the '76 flu vaccination at the same point. If this continues, America's trust in vaccines will falter again, even and especially if the FDA's effiacy numbers hold true, and we're going to need to get this 2 if not 3 times per year.

It's 95% efficacy for 2 months with the double shot, drops to under 50% after 4 months.

Now we're pushing single shot as the FDA claims 85% efficacy, just to get more vaccinated. But how long?

I am ready to get stabbed in the arm
And that's your choice. Everyone should have choice.

But we're already starting to see 'vaccination passports' that literally make people who are don't want to risk long-term effects a new type of 'second class citizen' that will be discriminated against beyond just judgements. People who won't be able to go into buildings or work without it.

It's certainly going to turn out to be one heck of a sociology experiment beyond just a medical one. Although the irony has flipped based on who is in the White House.

From CNN back in the fall...

I promise to not give a shit about Trump from January 20th, 2021, forward. Scout's Honor.
Actually, you've been pretty good so far on keeping that promise.

My problem post-Jan 6th is that we Libertarians got 'carpet bombed' across social media by the 'Democratic' left, along with Conservative LGBTQ groups, especially those of us who never voted Trump, and tired of his not accepting the states after mid-December.

Even Rand Paul called everyone involved in the Republican party who voted against accepting the state's votes out on that, even if one believes there was fraud.

Hillary Clinton said it best ... never waste a good tragedy. Nothing like letting the left showing how to shred the Constitution even more than the right, after they claim the right did. Even if I agree that the right did, they pretty much say and do, "Hold my beer."

Well, now I'm semi-vaccinated I guess. The whole process went amazingly smooth and quick for one massive vaccination center.

The only massive disappointment is that I was given the Phizer shot. I was hoping for one of Trump's vaccines. :)

At least some of the non-American media are starting to talk about pregnancy.

I still cannot believe no one is talking about the fact that there was zero testing done with pregnant women, and there zero known about long-term effects. The younger a person it, the more susceptible to any unknown, long-term effects, with unborn children having the greast risk.

At most. the only 'advisement' is the general US FDA advisement that with a vaccine that is still -- essentially -- in 'human trials' that women don't get it if they plan on getting pregnant within 2 months. That's all we have.

At least the news is being spread outside the US about miscarriage rates. It's still low, and probably worth the risk to get the shot -- from the standpoint of the mother -- but still significantly higher than predicted.

But we still have no idea about the long term effects to the unborn child.

That is good, you may be a leftie, but want you healthy. Us old codgers need to stick together.
Let me know how bad it hurts when the spikes start coming in.
Totally worth the risk of the mRNA vaccine if your 50+ or select high risks.

My wife got her first shot as a teacher yesterday from the FEMA tent out at Valencia west campus. She was a walk up and was out of there within 2.5 hours. It seems like that place is the easiest way to get this if you’re eligible and can’t get an appointment.

Most areas are 50+ for the shot so for now not an issue. You also don't know what could potentially happen to kids that eventually have kids.
I'm more worried about the immediate generation in 2-20 years. We just don't know.

65 and up had an easy time finding Publix appointments in Orlando. a week before shot #2 try Publix or CVS, quick and convenient but most Publixs are doing only Moderna

Some people that I’ve spoken with are just refusing to take it. The reasons are unbelievable. Just way out there. After you get the opportunity to take it, we really should lift restrictions, no masks, have tailgating, full stadiums etc. There has to be an end to this.

I hear you. In the immortal words of Forrest Gump, "stupid is that stupid does."

I wholeheartedly agree. But during this time between now and July 4th, vaccinated people need to do their part to model safe behavior to the non-vaccinated (at least the mask-wearing part) so we don't see spikes at the tail-end of this damn thing.
