Craft Beer Trend Slowing

Same thing with food trucks. A bunch of places open but aren’t actually passionate about what they’re selling.

It makes a difference.
 
The whole scene has become a saturated, insufferable mess. There's a brewery every 10 minutes over here and every single one runs the same tired "events" and "special brew releases". The beers themselves aren't remarkable; everyone seems to be brewing the same 3-4 staple types.

The one doing the best in Pinellas is Big Storm Brewing and it's precisely because they're not trying to be just another douchey hipster craft beer place. Their place is basically one giant sports bar, they have a really good in-house kitchen, they serve bar type food, and the bartenders aren't dressed as if they're attending an abstract art gallery afterwards.

I did have one of the best beers of my life this weekend. Allagash White. Thought it was absolutely amazing.

Lol. 10 bucks for a four pack, no thanks. I spend stupid money on Miller Lite and crap beer, when they don't have good beer, at games, bars and restaurants but why do these people think their beer is worth so much more than macro brew? People will only want to pay thay much a few times. They can't keep charging 2-4 bucks a wholesale beer and expect to keep regular customers interested. The market is saturated with expensive beer that all tastes the same.

Woa wait. Didn’t you hear? We must crap on and denegrate Americans who can’t afford to pay that type of money for beer.

Those who buy Coors or Miller are pissants who should be ignored and insulted.

And how often is that? These micros can't survive when their customer base is mostly people that have 2-3 beers a few times a week and they have competition every other door in their high overhead overpriced gentrified neighborhoods.

I agree, the ones that cashed out early to a big distributor probably made the smart move
 
lol, I spent $24.99 on a 4 pack recently. Stupid I know but had to try it.

Right now, Lagunitas has 2 great beers out- Waldo's and Sumptin' Easy.
 
I’ll pay a bit more for the Cigar City Lager in cans. Publix will put it on sale for $9.99 every now and then. Is that more than I'd like to pay? I guess, but at this point in my life, it's more about quality over quantity.

$9.99 is the max im going to pay for a six pack but i agree i care more about the quality than the quantity.
 
I've cut down on my drinking like 90% so maybe that's the reason...

But you knew this was coming. There are only a handful of places that make really good beers. Everyone else is all the same very average IPA, same lager, etc. When I go home to Lakeland and there are like 4 craft beer places you know it's way over heated. Actually one there just went out of business. The problem is it takes well into the 7 figures to get the equipment and these places up and running and there is just way too much supply. Add iI know a lot of friends that have basically just gone back to the basic beers. One problem is the IPAs and craft beers give me a wicked hangover, not worth it when I have to get up early with two adorable(asshole) kids.

I think there is a place in every town or submarket for a good beer spot. Those that have a good atmosphere, good food and good beers will do well. But the rest can die along with other fads cupcake shops, burger joints, and yogurt shops and $10 a drink juice bars.

I've cut down on my drinking like 90% so maybe that's the reason...

But you knew this was coming. There are only a handful of places that make really good beers. Everyone else is all the same very average IPA, same lager, etc. When I go home to Lakeland and there are like 4 craft beer places you know it's way over heated. Actually one there just went out of business. The problem is it takes well into the 7 figures to get the equipment and these places up and running and there is just way too much supply. Add iI know a lot of friends that have basically just gone back to the basic beers. One problem is the IPAs and craft beers give me a wicked hangover, not worth it when I have to get up early with two adorable(asshole) kids.

I think there is a place in every town or submarket for a good beer spot. Those that have a good atmosphere, good food and good beers will do well. But the rest can die along with other fads cupcake shops, burger joints, and yogurt shops and $10 a drink juice bars.

I was in Hartford airport a few weeks ago and someone got me an IPA that was 10.5% in strength. Just nuts. It was way too strong. A lot of American IPAs are 7.5% or higher.

I like the British IPAs since they're all in the 5% range.

Once you start taking things for what they are - they don't suck anymore. I know those aren't "good" beers. But who cares? McDonald's is sh!t but I still love me a classic cheeseburger and fries from there.

Miller High Life is arguably one of the greatest beers to consume after you've just sweat your ass off in the yard. It tastes like gold.

This is 100% true, and will always be welcomed in my fridge.

I like good beer, if it's cheap or not, doesn't matter. There are too many breweries doing boring shit. I like the Farmhouse Ales/Saisons a lot, and Saint Somewhere does great ones. Ellipsis here in Orlando is very solid for their IPAs. But, there are a TON of mediocre beers out there.
 
The problem with setting a business towards hipsters is they bolt at the drop of a hat. If you get too big...like upgrading over a bath tub brewing kit then you're too mainstream. Good luck getting a lasting business with hipsters as your target.

The ones that suck will die and those that make the best beer will continue to thrive. But Orlando itself is still far away from that point, as outside of Ellipsis and Red Cypress there isn’t a lot of great options.

Don’t understand the hate for those that enjoy craft beer, and choose not to drink macro. I could personally care less what someone’s beer of choice is, as if that is what you enjoy, drink it.
 
Miller High Life is arguably one of the greatest beers to consume after you've just sweat your ass off in the yard. It tastes like gold.


Champagne of Beers...my parent's beer when I was a kid...of course my sis and I were their bartenders when "company" came over so I took a sip of one...thought it was terrible and why weren't they drinking Root Beer.

Once every other year I buy Miller High Life for a hot tailgate...it's a fun memory trip as it's such an unusual taste (ala bubbles).

High Life is 1,000 years better tasting then Miller Lite...as that is just toilet water.
