Crook impregnates a playmate and then trades $1B gvmt contracts to fall guy who paid the hush money.

Somebody start a thread about who Pence will pick for his VP. Guaranteed he will pick a solid conservative .... and the left will be begging for Trump back within a month.

Haha yup, that's the main reason why I'm not so hot on the "impeach trump" train. The replacement might actually be worse.

Yeah I like this. A second thought is, considering the potential consequences, how much would it cost to bribe a billionaire? It has got to be Cohen access.

looks like that number is up to $600K now

Multiple outlets are reporting that the $200,000 payment AT&T admitted it made to an obscure shell company owned by Donald Trump’s “fixer” is actually several times that amount

The question you have to ask, is how did AT&T and Novartis know to send the money to these obscure shell companies? Novartis was paying their lobbying firm $12K/mo. They paid the Cohen shell company $100K/mo. for what?

And also why weren't they reported as illegal bribery attempts?

For Cohen to use his super secret network of murderers and spies to funnel this money directly back to Vladimir Putin.

Or this:

https://www.statnews.com/pharmalot/2018/05/09/trumps-lawyer-cohen-fixer-novartis/
"Michael Cohen, a longtime fixer for the president, reached out to Novartis’s then-chief executive officer Joe Jimenez, promising help gaining access to Trump and influential officials in the new administration, according to an employee inside Novartis familiar with the matter.

Jimenez took the call and then instructed his team to reach a deal with Cohen. A one-year contract worth $1.2 million was signed with Cohen in February 2017
. "

"The employee could not explain why Novartis would have agreed to a deal with a lawyer with no background in health care and without deep Washington ties. The extent to which Novartis conducted any due diligence into Cohen or his track record as a Trump insider and Washington player is uncertain."

"In March 2017, a group of Novartis employees, mostly from the government affairs and lobbying teams, met with Cohen in New York to discuss specific issues and strategies. But the meeting was a disappointment, the insider explained, and the Novartis squad left with the impression that Cohen and Essential Consultants — the firm controlled by Cohen that Novartis was making payments to — may not be able to deliver.

“At first, it all sounded impressive, but toward the end of the meeting, everyone realized this was a probably a slippery slope to engage him. So they decided not to really engage Cohen for any activities after that,” the employee continued. Rather than attempt to cancel the contract, the company allowed it to lapse early in 2018 and not run the risk of ticking off the president. “It might have caused anger,” this person said.

As the contract expiration date neared earlier this year, Cohen then approached Vasant Narasimhan, who by then had succeeded Jimenez as Novartis chief executive, according to the employee. Narasimhan declined to renew the arrangement and the contract lapsed
."

So if this is to be believed, after meeting Cohen briefly at the White House in January 2017, the CEO directed his firm to hire Cohen as an extremely overpaid lobbyist, found out he was full of shit after meeting with him in earnest in March 2017, so they didn't want to use him, but they felt they couldn't cancel the contract for fear of angering the President? Bullshit.

It sounds fairly straight forward actually- a lawyer willing to pump up his credentials and access to solicit a sweet payday, and a CEO and board stupid enough to believe it.

AT&T apparently did the same thing, only to have Trump's DOJ go after their merger with Time Warner and try to kill it. LOL

JFC trump could literally murder someone in the middle of the street and you'd find a way to blame it on obama.

Maybe, but the going rate seems way off, no? And the inability to kill the contract? That's shady as hell. Besides, isn't the President supposed to be divested from his businesses while in office? Why would canceling a contract for a valid reason be something to fear for a large corporation? Something stinks.

If they were stupid enough to fork over this money to Cohen to begin with, they're stupid enough to believe most anything when considering cancelling.

In order for this to be "pay for play" there would have to be signs of "play" from the Trump Admin, and there's not. As I said, he almost instantly had the DOJ pursue an anti-trust case against the ATT/TW merger. I think Cohen pimped himself to these people and got idiots dumb enough to bite.

As the story even said, they got to the first meeting and the guy had nothing to offer.

Yeah sounds to me like they got played by Cohen but I’m just a partisan hack , what do I know

You're only bipartisan and objective if you believe that every single story released every day implies 100% guilt on Trump's part.

When it comes to Novartis, that remains to be seen that there aren't signs of play. If they saw he had nothing to offer after the first meeting, why pay him for another 10 months?

.........because they signed a contract with him?

Unless you're telling me you know what the Termination for Convenience clause was and it gave them an instant, pain free out. There are people and companies all over this country currently paying people money that they don't deserve, simply because a contract says they have to until a certain date.

A contract works both ways though. If a company doesn't deliver what is being paid for in the contract, they don't get paid.

I don't think anyone called you a partisan hack, hell you were specifically called out as bipartisan. Your inability to see the blatant political shill posting by 85 does call eiyher your intelligence or honesty into question though.

Yea- that’s my point though. You have no idea what the terms were or what would constitute a breach, or qualify under a T for C clause. Maybe the “nothing” he brought was info, just not what they were expecting.

And given that Cohen is a lawyer, I am going to assume that he wrote contracts favorable to him.

AT&T seemed to be able to truncate their agreement pretty quickly.

At face value, this is my first inclination. They paid for access under the guise of "consulting". He didn't deliver on what they thought they were getting, but at that point you can't go back. If they had demanded the money back it would be a clear violation of law.

Again, this is all speculation but it's my first inclination.

Also, props to Stormy Daniels lawyer for digging this up. Whether he obtained the information legally or not, it's something that should be brought to the public's attention. Could be really bad or really good for Trump, but that isn't the point. The guy exposed what appears to be crony capitalism/fascism at work.

Taking action no matter the legality, no matter he w badly someone’s constitutional rights have been violated.

Wow. Just wow.

LOL

By the way- who is paying Avenatti? He is playing lawyer, political activist, journalist, all in one. With a clear agenda. Who is financing all of his time and effort on this? The broke porn star? I can't wait 'til we find what DNC scum are supporting this cretin.

All of her prior lawyers advise not to break the NDA or the prior deal. Along comes this guy, and now we know that he's soliciting government employees to break the law to illegally obtain confidential documents that violate Cohen's constitutional rights.

Hes worth 20 million maybe he wants to be in this history books as the man who dunked on Trump for 3 years straight.

And got partisan hacks to listen to every pathetic statement he makes.

Your #Resistance cause becomes more pathetic every.single.day

"Further, no political party or PAC is funding this effort. No left wing conspiracy group is behind this. And no big fat cat political donors are leading the charge,” Avenatti added. “Get over it.”
You mean like Hillary Clinton constantly stating "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy"? Glass stones.

Me? I've got the popcorn. Because I think when they're done with Trump, and the fact that -- so far -- what Cohen did was not illegal, and completely allowed, it will fly back on the Clintons too.

I mean, we're at the point we're just talking about stuff the Clintons did as well.

Donation here, money there, oh look, improper conflict-of-interest, but completely legal action over here. Even the Obama administration was thigh deep in special interest, because of the swamp around him.

And that's what makes me get the popcorn out.

God it never gets old pointing out how full of shit 85 is.
Or you for that matter too. Because as Bernie Sanders keeps pointing out, this is all a distraction, and is likely going to result in no changes.

One of these days Conservatives and Progressives will remember their Libertarian and Liberal roots, and want to put an end to the 'swamp.' Until then, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

Or as we'd say 200 years ago ... "To the Victors Go the Spoils." That's VictorS ... plural.

Hes worth 20 million maybe he wants to be in this history books as the man who dunked on Trump for 3 years straight.
True. That's how these things go. It's politics. It doesn't have to stick in the courts, just on TV.

The real smoking gun will end up being the payment from AT&T. That one looks like a payment for political favors, even if it didn't go the way they wanted.
You mean the conflict-of-interest? Cohen is a lawyer after all, just like Hillary, just like a lot of people in the Clinton and Obama administrations.

Because it's all legal. This is what happens in our government. Or did you guys not miss the whole hoopla about Hillary? Conflicts-of-interest are not illegal. What Cohen did is not illegal.

I know the US media is trying to get you guys to think otherwise, but that's the case. It makes for great TV, but not so much in the courts.

Which is why, one of these days the Conservatives and Progressives will come together, and recognize their Libertarian and Liberal foundations, and want to put an end to the swamp. But until then, as we used to say 200 years ago ...

"To the Victors Go the Spoils!"

I'm not saying that it's illegal. But it could be a demonstration of the fascism that is pervasive in US politics, subject to the court of public opinion. .

Every administration and its 'trash' seems to keep this load of BS up. Trump is no different.

85s first excuse: crazy conspiracy theories pushed by maddow.

85's second excuse (after it was exposed as not being a crazy conspiracy theory): a couple crazy corps hunted down Cohen and paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars expecting nothing in return

Now Ford is reporting they turned down Cohen's approach for "consulting services"

I can't wait to see what he changes his story to now.

Cohen isn't the same as Trump. Trump didn't know about this and as a man of integrity Trump wouldn't approve of this.

I'll agree that every "administration" does it, but I'm not so sure I would that every president does it. At this point I have no idea whether or not Trump has been doing anybody any favors, but he has obviously taken the Warren Harding approach of surrounding himself with crooks and peddlers.

Good for them. I've always been a GM guy, but I have a lot more respect for Ford as a business. It's nice to see that fascism isn't 100% pervasive in big money business, although it's probably pretty close.
