The funniest thing I saw was Gov. Cuomo going off about incompetence of Government in handling Covid. He hands down did the worse possible job of all governors, with almost 33k dead in NY. , and the nursing home fiasco.
What news source do you listen to? NY did a great job for their circumstances. Probably a FAUX NEWS person.

Every other state got to learn from NY since it was hit hardest in the beginning.
We needed to watch Cuomo throw the elderly into the gas chambers before the rest of us could see that wasn’t a good idea and learn from it.

Oh yeah.. Covid hit New York months before anywhere else

Democratic convention:

irrelevant political has beens and failures

Republican convention:

Real Americans and successful businessmen

voters = relate to real Americans

Democrats = too stupid to realize this strategy

Summary of the total clown show that is the DNC:

- Cuomo speaks on how amazing his COVID response was

- Avowed anti-Semite and terrorist supporter who refuses to recognize Israel gets speaking role

- A man who has been directly implicated by a victim as an Epstein accomplice gets Primetime speaking spot to talk about "dignity"

- Elizabeth Warren speaks and chairs a Native American caucus dialogue

- A socialist nominates another socialist and barely mentions the actual Candidate

Summary of 85's summary:
85 loved it.

Biden nailed his acceptance speech tonight. For a virtual convention, the Democrats did pretty damn well this week.

It will be interesting to see how the Republicans do theirs next week.

This particular sound bite gets recycled by every leftie with a pulse. It's a lie, but it was pushed yet again last night by Booker so let's review why it's a lie and a fantasy:

Together, with Joe and Kamala in the White House, we’ll raise the minimum wage so no one who works a full-time job lives in poverty,” he said.

THE FACTS: That’s an improbable outcome for the $15 minimum wage supported by Biden.

A 2019 report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated increasing the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour would lift 1.3 million Americans out of poverty, a small fraction of the roughly 38 million people living in poverty in 2018.

Moreover, the report estimated a $15 minimum wage would cost 1.3 million people their jobs because they would be priced out of the market.

All we have to do to raise people out of poverty is print more money and send out some checks.

The $15 minimum wage is happening. It's on the ballot this fall here. All of the local Orlando companies have committed to it already.

By companies who do you mean? It's a disaster for small businesses as we've already seen time and time again. If "companies" are already doing it, then why do we need this asinine ballot measure to force other small businesses into $15/hour when they can't afford it?

It's stupid policy pushed by stupid people.

Why do you care? Is it because it impacts you or is it because you were told to be mad about it so business daddy can keep more money and youre a reliable mouthpiece?

Mostly because I have a brain and can read basic economic assessments.

And I'm not a left wing douche intent on ruining small businesses all under premise of pushing the dogmatic false prophecy that a national $15 min wage will actually benefit lower income workers.

Well all small businesses are just going to have to shut down then!*

What at alarmist panic driven hysterical response by some Trumpies on this thread. We are the wealthiest nation in the world, we can afford to raise the minimum wage. Stop being a puppet for the real wealthy people.

Thanks for that post rooted in exactly no economic fact and one which appeals to the most vague generalizations

It is an economic fact that America is the richest country in the history of the world. It is also a fact that wealth disparity is at its highest in many decades. We have to help out poor people, there are many of them and our economy benefits more from giving poor people money than giving rich people money, the poor people spend it and stimulate the economy, rich people mostly just speculate on assets and drive pricing bubbles when you give them more money.

I assume from your Trumpist ranting that you are not in favor of raising taxes to fund "entitlement" programs to help poor people. The other option is raising minimum wage and putting the burden on the private sector. If you aren't willing to do one of these 2 things, you probably are just cool with poor people staying poor while the rich keep getting richer. A lot of people don't really want America to be like that. That is not the American dream.

$15 minimum wage will destroy America. Where do you want to start? Go pay $10 for the cheapest footlong at Subway.

Employers will cut a huge portion of their staff and unemployment will go through the roof.

Businesses simply aren’t going to pay that. Plain and simple. They will cut employees or close

If they wanted to slowly move up to that i don't think it would be a problem, but doing it all in one fell swoop would be disastrous. They know that, so it's just a ploy to gain votes.

Keep minimum wage low. Eventually they will get some of that trickle down we’ve been waiting on for 40 years.

Again, you're just talking in vague Bernie Bro utopian generalizations.

I already shared above from the AP Fact Check that the economic consensus is that a national $15 mandate will result in as many people losing their jobs as it will result in people being lifted out of poverty. Is that a net gain or benefit? No. Minimum wages at the state level are typically lazy and unnecessary; at the Federal level they are just asinine.

As for "just need to tax richies more and give money away". Too vague to even respond to, again. We run the largest welfare state that history has ever known - what else are you actually talking about? California has the highest tax burden in the nation and actually does "give" money to low income people, and yet, CA currently has gigantic homeless tent cities in every major metro area.

Also, no one is "giving" rich people more money. You seem confused as to how the economy works. They earn money through their businesses or assets.

No they won't, business owners rely on their businesses to make money and survive, they will not shut down over a minimum wage increase.

That's like saying if we LOWERED the minimum wage, that nobody would work. People would still work, they have no other option. Business owners would make it work with a higher minimum wage, they arent a bunch of weak minded mamby pambies. And they don't even have other options for the most part.

Buddy, we already have a minimum wage, we already have a welfare state, including corporare welfare, everything is based on relative choices. If you cut taxes on rich people, in effect, you are giving them money, relative to the alternative. I know that crushes your delicate conservative sensibilities, but it is a reality. Rich people arent in some capitalist euphoria where they stand alone and free of the impact of subsidies.

We have already decided to take money from some people through taxes and give it to others through government spending, we have already decided to take money from employers via the minimum wage and distribute it to the poor. The only question is how much. Right now, we aren't doing enough, so the wealth gap continues to widen. People who own businesses or work in government or finance understand this. Billionaires understand this. You just don't understand this, you are just waiting around for the trickle down thinking you live in a free market while you pay into social security, eat food that was largely produced via government subsidies, and worship business leaders that take billions of dollars in subsidies at the federal, state, and local level.

You complain that I am not realistic and am speaking too broadly or theoretically, but your entire argument ignores the actual reality that we live in in America.

50 bucks an hour it is!

Yeah, you're right. Asking for $15/hour, $30,000 / year for a full time worker, just above the poverty line in many areas for a family of 4, is the same as absurdly demanding 6 figures for everybody.

By your logic, I'll just claim that all Trumpies want a $0 minimum wage and no taxes on incomes over $1 million. See how that's stupid talk?

I think that you meant to post this in 2005.
Nope. Many, many people make $9-13 dollars an hour including medical assistants. They asked for raises to $14-15 and were told to take a hike. They aren’t paying fast food workers $15 which is a large workforce in America

Good luck finding a medical assistant that will work for $9-13/hour unless they live with their parents. There is a point where the cost to get to work doesn't make it worth it.

What is your point??? There are a bunch who make $11-13 and have roommates, crappy apartments or are married.

There employers will not pay them $15. The employer will be short staffed or struggle

That is just ONE example

Why is meritocracy a form of evil capitalism to leftists? I honestly don't get it. A person who is worth 15 bucks an hour can make 15 bucks an hour. A doctor or lawyer that is worth 300 bucks an hour can make 300 bucks an hour.

Just showing up for work has no value. Productivity does.
