The standard Republican response to the pandemic that I find perplexing is that you can't separate the economy from the science of the virus. Shutdowns are not meant to be a big FU to the economy, it's a recognition that we've got to get this damn bug under control again before we can do much of anything. The economy is based upon consumer confidence. The way to build consumer confidence is taking steps to bring the skyrocketing numbers down again -- and keep them down -- until a vaccine is ready for distribution.
The notion that you can treat this virus as 'no big deal' and poo-poo mask-wearing and social distancing WHILE getting the economy roaring again is nonsensical. The sooner we can get everybody 'on board' with following the health officials' recommendations, the sooner we're all putting this pandemic in the rear view mirror.
I am not arguing whether more shut downs are good or bad, But they will be devastating to the Economy, just like they were earlier this year. If we have large scale shutdowns The economy comes to a screeching halt again, Millions get laid off again, millions of businesses that barely survived this last time won't survive a 2nd shut down. Shut downs do not get the virus under control, the only thing that will do that is a combo of enough people having and surviving it, along with the Trump vaccines, and better treatments. If most businesses are closed and people in the 10's of millions are unemployed, consumer confidence does not matter.
The vast majority of people are social distancing, and are wearing mask in public, the people at highest risk are usually more careful than those who are at less risk. I trust people to make their own decisions, I don't go to bars, inside restaurants, or anywhere that have large gatherings, That is my decision on how to protect myself, I am against pushing Covid people into nursing homes... and protecting that group, which the wizards of close, did not do. I barring an emergency wouldn't fly, but my son in law who is 40 and healthy does because he must to do his job.
I understand you live in your basement, and don't see much of the real world, but I have not seen a single business that is open that hasn't taken steps to protect their employees and customers.
