Election Chaos Thread

Because Biden is going to get a much larger share of the mail in vote - according to public polling at least. Thus any shift that makes mail-in votes more likely to get counted benefits him, and any shift making them less likely to be counted benefits Trump.

Per polling data in 538 article linked below (polling data was mid August I think)
  • 11% of Trump voters said they intend to vote by mail
  • 47% of Biden voters said they intend to vote by mail
Assuming a 50/50 split national vote, that would lead to ~80% of mail in ballots going to Biden.
Really a brilliant move by Trump. He's going to lose the popular vote but if his voters go to the polls and Biden's mail their's in, the early polls will have Trump leading. If Trump leads at the end of the night and Biden leads in the morning or it takes days to count the ballots, Trump just declares victory.

I was going to vote by mail like I did in the primary but I will vote in person because of this.

Common sense that people who don’t want to unnecessarily wait at crowded polling centers during a pandemic and who don’t think that mail in voting is “the greatest scam” are going to lean towards Biden.

This was the most polite way of saying "inbred mouth breathing basement dwellers will be the only ones not using technology to their advantage in the middle of a pandemic"

"The court extended the deadline for accepting mail ballots, will allow voters to submit their ballots through drop boxes, and removed the Green Party's candidate for president from the ballot."

So we will have the media reporting results for a full 3 days before people can cast ballots in person without a postmark

From the CNN article you linked:

Thursday's court decisions essentially set the ground rules for the general election. One of the more significant changes set by the court on Thursday is allowing election officials to count absentee ballots received up to three days after the election, if they are postmarked by Election Day.

I think you're just conflating two separate issues - that Drop Boxes are legal and mail in ballots have to be accepted if postmarked by election day. Pretty sure the drop boxes get packed up when the polls close.

Bingo. I didn't make the connection until I read the 538 article. Everything lines up perfectly for Trump to create the chaos he can ride. I don't know if it's intentional on his part, but it's brilliant if you're a super villain trying to create chaos and grab power. He's creating a self-fulfilling prophecy on mail-in ballots.

That isnt what it says. THe ballots have to be post marked by 11/3, they arent accepting drop box ballots after that date.

I dont think there is any question it is intentional.

I'm fine with this as long as that's the case, but I have a feeling that won't be what happens. I'd feel a lot better about this is if they didn't count any votes until that Friday but we all know the results will be reported on Tuesday night, then updated, then updated again, and then be challenged and by then there will be lawsuits but by that time there will be no way to know what ballots were cast when.

Ballots are counted after election night every election. No question there will be more this year than usual, but none of this that much different.

It’s no different than any election. Calls are made long before all ballots are counted. A call cannot always be made on election night for a certain state. Generally this only impacts the final EC tally but not the actual winner. Except for in 2000 when Florida was a winner take all deal and razor thin margin.

Interesting short article on what's going on with voting in Minnesota. Seems pretty likely that there will be some voter fraud with this system.
