Expansion Coming? OU & Texas to the B1G

Here are 4 links that speak to academics and conference realignment. They sound more like college professors speaking than sports fans but I guess for the schools involved the information is relevant. I had a tendency to dose off a little. LOL

That's the first time I have seen that UCF could attain AAU status eventually; that would be tremendous! (USF has long gotten more research funding and had a larger endowment than UCF, and they just got a Phi Beta Kappa chapter [which UCF lacks]. UCF's growth has been fantastic, and it is great that it is continuing )

Thanks for the links. I still don't get the importance. I am waiting for the day I get to turn on College Game Day and listen to Herbie talk about the fantastic matchup between Carnegie school A vs Carnegie school B.
I should live so long! lol

University presidents make the ultimate decisions on conference membership, not athletic directors. Most notably with the Big Ten (and its CIC), somewhat less so for ACC and Pac-12, there is a lot of university research collaboration within a conference. The recreation of the new Big East conference was strongly influenced by "common academic (Catholic) missions."
Thought it was because of Basketball not Catholic missions.

Basically, having your two best teams "Texas and Oklahoma" with the attitude "we'll be okay no matter what" screws everybody else who depends on the Big 12 and those who are thinking about coming in. This is why our first priority is to get the CFP expanded and make the AAC better. Our second priority is to market ourselves to ACC (who destroyed the Big East) as the best candidate for expansion with N.D. We do this by continuing to win and grow the fan base. We do this by keeping White and Heupel for the near term. Our 4th priority is to care about the Big 12 if and when they announce they are going to expand. Another option that is a long shot is if the CFP expands to join BYU and N.D. as an independent. This is only valid if our popularity among college football fans increases and our style of football continues to attract recruits and produce many victories. This option may be impossible due to the negative impact it may have on other sports. Bottom line is Big 12 is probably as desirable as being an independent at this point.

With the Big XII, we want to emphasize our new "market", but that "market" means nothing to ACC with FSU and Miami. But there has been a lot of conjecture that the next "TV rights" for college football will be greatly influenced by non-TV entities like Amazon or Google... so maybe UCF can offer "new" appeal to ACC. It is great to see college football writers/broadcasters/analysts supporting our cause; now we just need a P5 conference to see that.

Haven't read every single post, so hope this hasn't been mentioned before.....but the problem with OU and UT leaving the B12 is that, as soon as that happens, WV, Kansas, Kansas St, OK State would bolt to elsewhere. If UCF and other G5 teams are invited in, they would find a conference not much better than the one they just left.

Where are all these schools going?

WV likely to the ACC.

Kansas will certainly be attractive because of the basketball program, the other 2 are solid in FB and BB so they would find willing takers as well.

It would be a situation similar to the old Big East; a slow exodus to somewhere else (Boston College, Pitt, Rutgers, Miami, etc)

So ACC is expanding to 16 or 18?

You're going to have some Big 12 leftovers when it goes to a P4 just like we did with the Big East folding. This would be an opportunity for the American to grow so we might as well do the best to increase our product which is what Danny White is onboard for.

Sorry but no conference is racing to add anyone other than UT, OK or KS. The other teams have average accomplishments and their tv markets are horrendous (not counting TCU)
