Hire Dino! When the only two people that don't want you fired are 1. The #1 (and only) member of the Guz Malzahn fan club and #2 A guy who doesn't really have any defense for you, but is so hung up on a Dino Babers post from this message board from about a decade ago, (by someone who almost certainly doesn't still post here, and could be dead for all we know) that it seems to have severed his grip on reality, it's not a great sign for the job you're doing.
Exactly. Next year will be no different.Normally I would say give him one more year because it takes time to build a program, but there just isn't any sign that things are starting to head in the right direction at the end of Year 4. Obviously the win-loss record has been worse each year he's been here, but even if you look beyond that there aren't any facets of the game where you see improvement. He's resorted to reshuffling the 2-deep through the portal every year so there's no internal development. Most of his high school recruits haven't seen the field. He continues to ignore the defensive side of the ball and places no emphasis on hiring quality coordinators. It seems like he just goes cheap every time while the great coaches invest heavily in great coordinators. And of course he can't get the QB position right even when he actually has one in the locker room. Why would next year be different? It honestly feels like he's checked out. He looks and sounds like someone whose heart just isn't in it anymore.
Very much like the Heupel situation but we somehow got lucky and that worked our for both sides....I'm talking about him leaving and us getting a bunch of money out of it, and we didn't have to pay him out of his contract, etc....Normally I would say give him one more year because it takes time to build a program, but there just isn't any sign that things are starting to head in the right direction at the end of Year 4. Not to mention a DC that can teach fundamentals, like how to tackle!Only hope we can have for enjoying next season is if Gus will admit his filling the roster up strategy with transfers
was flawed and that he is willing to not just step down from play calling as OC but to let a new OC step in who will totally open up the offense.
One can dream...
