George will be getting a statue in Memory Mall this Fall.

It doesn't matter to me either way.

He was big for the program when
he decided to come here. There
might not be a stadium on Campus
if he had come come here. For that
alone he can have a statue. But if you
do that how do you not honor one of
first coaches who went out to help
raise money to avoid the FB program
being shut down.

Why not just doing something more
fair and honor all the past full time
coaches. It's doesn't have to be a
statue bit something on a smaller
scale and it's mentions there achieve
-ments while at UCF.

Statues are reserved for sustained
greatness like Bobby Bowden or
Joe Pa at Penn State.

Why does Penn State have a Bobby Bowden statue?

I saw the clay model. The school is not paying for this. A bunch of donors got together and it was approved by Dr. Hitt.

So this model, which classic George pose was it?

~.500 head coaches get statues now? Will the Arena be named after Kirk?

Hardware matters....it's basically all that matters at end of the day. Nobody cares that golden state won 70-something games if they don't hoist the title. Nobody cares that the Patriots almost went for s perfect season....why....no title. GOL collected hardware and that is his legacy. Off the top of your head try and spout off the win percentages of spurrier, Bowden, or Osbourne. The reason it doesn't matter is they won titles.

one of those trophies was during a season where UCF lost to their rival by 52 points, ideas like this is why this Program is still perceived as small time

And Spurrier, Bowden had winning % closer to .70 than .50

Bowden .740
Spurrier .718

Just rewarding mediocrity.

From the replies on this board it may be too soon but he certainly had a major positive impact on our football program whether you loved him or not.

I always respected what the man brought to the program although I wasn't heads over heals with his coaching style (old school for sure).

Is Georgia Tech building GOL a statue? Go look at his record/wins from that time period. I wish him the best but how are they planning a statue when we're on a 13 game losing streak? Maybe wait for a win at least.

step out of the UCF bubble and ask any knowledgeable college football fan if GOL is worthy of a statue, most will laugh & think this was brought up on Onion Sports
