Gus may rival Saban as worst HC

Saban had the first team with some scholarship money ( a little) and literally had to build from nothing Team was winless in D3 when he took over. Saban went 5-6 and beat a D1AA team. Second year he quit after a few games ( would love to see Gus quit) over financial commitment to football (we had no money) We didn’t really have anything to destroy as we had nothing.

Gus has been given EVERYTHING and took over a quality program. Gus’ attitude that he knows everything and is bigger then UCF is nauseating

Curious who you think our #1 worst coach is? And this has to be from our D-1 tenure.
We only had 4 D1 coaches so it has to be Gus or MK. With what UCF has given to the coaches no doubt Gus. The president n AD has given Gus everything to succeed

No it doesn't have to be from our D-1 tenure. Saban was well before I ever heard of UCF, so am only relying on what I heard from the early McDowell years (my years). I know there's either been a re-write of the Saban years, or a correction, but at the time of barely getting out of Saban, that name was dirt. So, Saban is UCF's worst HC, in my opinion, and if wrong, then Gus has a chance of squandering what has been built if he's kept past this year. Easily he's the worst. We've have a steady decline since Frost. Can't say O'Leary because he at least brought some good years. Up down up down up down down.

He was not the worst. In fact he brought competitive football to UCF and gave it name recognition.( he took over an 0-10 D3 team n played the top D2 teams and beat a quality D1AA team) I was there playing a different sport, but he brought recognition to UCF and we had no money. He had a reputation as “2 year Lou” because of his limited stay expectancy. He actually was very good but was in conflict with AD Peterson from the get go. He left because he said promises were made but not fulfilled. He brought some NFLers (Sam, Wilson and Davis) to the team when we had no history. He was good but u always knew he was looking for a new venture. (Was a military regime guy too)

Gave McDowell something to work with and Gene did a great job Lou did a lot with next to nothing but u knew he would leave soon. He was good

Certainly a different take from what most of what I heard from for a good decade since his tenure. While I love the NFL reference, even I have to admit no one made an NFL team, except my favorite WR who was a replacement player for Washington. Gerod Davis was fantastic, but not in the NFL sadly.

Good news is, he probably won't add to the 11 losses as a favorite, as we probably won't be viewed as a favorite anymore. If so, then he'll add to 11.

Just have to add to it. 'Name recognition'. I'd love to hear the date you put on that, because I traveled around as a UCF rep for a housing rep thing while a student and nobody knew who UCF was- they thought it was California. That was 1985+. Culpepper is the only one that got us name recognition and that was only for 15 minutes or slightly more. It's somewhere in the 2000s when people actually knew who UCF was. Let's not pretend that Saban did anything, recognition-wise.

Sorry, but really tired of the 'name recognition' crap. We were supposed to see a big increase after beating Baylor. Then it was Auburn. Let's get real and realize the only thing that got us real name recognition was the demand of a National Championship (which pissed off the right morons) and being in the Big XII. The rest totals 15 minutes, sadly. A lot of previous is exactly like Western Michigan when they had a phenomenal season and the number 1 pick, an Olineman I think. Great for the time period, but forgotten now. And Saban DID leave us in debt, giant debt that made us compress the AD and football HC in 1 job with McDowell taking pay for 1 job. The years Saban was here were a mess, regardless of who was at fault, and he abandoned the team, during the season for whatever reason. The end of the year, we seriously considered ending it all.

I was there, and I actually roomed in Polk Hall with the football players. Aaron Sam made the NFL Cleveland, Teddy Wilson ( Redskins) was actually a draft pick , Davis RB made the nfl. I have no skin in the game. Just telling you the facts I was there during his entire tenure and was actually around a lot of people who were really in the know

The biggest problem with Saben was u knew he would pick up his luggage in a heartbeat and leave. Coaching wise he was pretty good with the resources he had.

I was there before you got there. You seem to be pretty upset about me contesting the facts. Again I have no skin in the game at all. I’m just telling you everything. I still remember Lou Sabin being on the CBS pregame NFL network show at Ucf with Paul McGuire one of the hosts before the NFL Sunday games. I understand that other people have told you their thoughts on it, but I’m telling you what really happened firsthand. You can interpreted it as you feel. You can ask any of the football players from that time. I’m sure they’ll tell you the same.
