i believe whatsapp is at least end to end encrypted. whether there is a backdoor or not is up for debate. its now owned by fb so i would assume they have one. i dont think they should be using it, there are more secure communication services out there, but its not all that bad.
there really is no direct comparison to clinton and them. this app is far more secure than clintons server ever was. not to mention they are basically aids and have no where near the authority that the sec of state has. they likely dont see nearly as much classified information.

Whatsapp is a private company that doesn't have fbi background checks for their hires. You think it's not that bad that Facebook (who just had a huge privacy scandal yesterday for storing passwords in plain text) is the platform for international diplomatic communication?

For your argument, let's assume, like HRC Trump folks had classified info out where it could get hacked (we don't know if that's true), okay? With that assumption, then they should all receive the same penalties. I'm good with that.
But there is a huge difference here. HRC destroyed subpoena'd hardware and e-mails which is a felony and obstruction of justice which is also a felony...prison time. Simply destroying Blackberries is a felony because it's government property much less part of an investigation.
