Why would I succumb myself to this torture you may ask? Well, I wanted to prepare myself for the lows we may experience of a first year with Frost, especially with how many players we’ve lost and if we are starting a young QB. In addition however, I also wanted to remind myself what Frost, his staff, and McKenzie were able to do in one offseason. My takeaways:

- The offensive line was… well… offensive. They were AWFUL. Pressure immediately in Mckenzie’s face on nearly every play, and zero run blocking. Amazing the improvement that was made in year 2, given that the line included many of the same players

- McKenzie had no chance with this line, and of course, due to this, he made many freshman mistakes. Again, amazing what he was able to do in year 2 considering how bad this game was.

- Frost’s playcalling never adjusted to the defense to take advantage of the over-aggressiveness by the Arkansas state d-line. Too many slow-developing plays that put the QB in a no-win situation. Again, the difference in year 2 was night and day.

- The defense was about the same, made big plays but also too many coverage busts.

I remember being there at that game, and it was like death by butter knife while watching in the stands. I’m sure you guys, like me, were wondering what the path forward would be with how bad we looked. The job that the staff and McKenzie were able to do in the offseason from year 1 and year 2 was incredible. Can we repeat this? Hopefully year 1 is better this time.

you thought 2016 was a low coming off 0-12? seriously? that was a high for me.
Exactly and we were competitive in most games. I still remember us almost knocking off a good Houston team that year cause I was at Disney with my family keeping up with it on my phone. It was the year after they beat FSU in the Peach Bowl I think.

that team full of true freshmen playing hit a physical wall around week 10. There were still some entertaining games that season

The BYU bowl game was the worst imo. We had all the talent in the world, although BYU was good r lack of competitiveness in that game was startling.

I think I posted after the Cure Bowl how bad KZ was and hopefully that was the last game he would play at UCF. He then went on to win his next 25 starts . The way he was playing along with hus leadership skills I think 39 straight was very possible. PS, I don’t speculate on QB future potential anymore. lol
