Is anyone else feeling a bit of Griffin Burnout?

Recruiting in 04 we got 1 guy that was a 3 star and the rest were 2 or lower. Last year we got 11 three star or higher guys. AAC has helped more than CUSA or whatever we were in then.

Ended the year 2003-2004 having our true freshman burn his red shirt with three games to go in a 3-9 season. Then our record setting QB wearing a USF helmet at the Hula Bowl. Recruiting sucked, coaching sucked, morale sucked, academics sucked, facilities sucked, coaches pay sucked. But just add Scott Frost and everything would have been rainbows and unicorns.

The statue was a knee jerk reaction to people like FB who don't understand the nature of UCF football prior to 2004. It was not necessary and I am not sure even GOL likes it.
Then you agree that it is ready to come down.

Sounds like 2015.
Not SF but a "SF type" of coach with Central Florida talent, and :fire: uniforms. :100points:

I could care less if it is there one way or another. But you only take something down if there is a purpose. Being bitter is not a purpose.

The purpose is to expand the tower. We need the space. [winking]

I feel like the Statue doing what he did took a looooong time and jeopardized our chance at P5 status. If we had hired a This Place type of coach in 2004 we would have been to 2 BCS bowls by 2007.
"Those types of coaches" didn't exist in 2004. Nobody was doing uptempo like it is now done. It's been elevated to UCFast. We also had done nothing as a program in 2004, unless you want to take some moral pride in almost winning some games against storied programs....which even if won still would have meant nothing in the grand scheme of college football (see USF). I don't think finishing in the middle of the MAC counts for great effect either. I don't know if any young, stud coaches would have taken on the challenge in 2004 because the program was not a program. It was a football team and not a football program. We had to create the foundation we had after 10 years of GOL. He provided stability that young staffs probably wouldn't have, in that just like Frosty, they would have bailed out at the first opportunity. We can't live in parallel time lines so there is no way to know if things would be better or worse but the way we did it seems to show a good foundation is in place. That was aptly demonstrated by both Frosty and now Heup. Almost nobody goes on long, successful runs at the very top of college football. We are not going to be immune from that unless we end up in a major conference where we get the money and "the benefit of the doubt" when it comes to the bias that goes alon with it.

Has no one noticed Seattle has already drafted 2 LB Griffin replacements? Maybe your feed should bring up those articles, because there are several/many. Sure hope he proves this coach wrong too, and wins the job.

Back to non-Griffin conversations.

He better stop doing pub for his book and work on his game. Both guys they drafted aren’t looking to start but could take some second team reps away. We’ll see.

I think this is spot on.

Also, judging by its face, I don’t even think the statue likes itself.

Remember, I'm considered a GOL 'nuthugger' around here. I apologized for him ... a lot. But not playing Griffin those first 3 years still bothers me.

Ah...that really wasn't GOL's call...as it was the DC and DB Coach who had him playing DB in a 4-3...which is why he was 3rd string.

Only after Frost switched to a 3-4 Defense...and with Shaqueem still struggling as 3rd string DB on Frost's team...it was then DB Coach and former Knight DB, Travis Fisher, who suggested maybe Shaqueem can play OLB in the 3-4 scheme...since he was never going to see the field as a DB.

Well...the rest you can say is history...and he playing in the 3-4 gave him more freedom and limited his weakness (coverage).

If Frost stayed with a 4-3 defense...Shaqueem probably would have rarely ever seen the field.

Couldn’t he just have been the outside rusher in a 4-3?

Nope...as OLB's in a 4-3 have much more areas to cover and also have more pass coverage responsibility....hence why in a 3-4 he had more freedom to rush and less pass coverage responsibilities (i.e. in a defense with 8 players in the back...vs 7 in a 4-3).

That's why Secondary Coach Fisher deserves all the credit for suggesting the move in the new 3-4 as he was never going to see the field as a DB or a LB in a 4-3....(hence why he has struggled in Seattle's normal 4-3 defense but this year...believe they want to try him as a rush specialist on 3 downs during the preseason).

Technically he was just a DE in a 4-3. Pinned ears back and rushed.

He is making $650,000 a year playing football. But he has endorsement deals with Nike, Bose, Gillette, JCPenney and Eleven James. His story is worth more than his skills in the NFL. Seahawks will keep him around a bit more because people like him and because he is a hard worker. I have no doubt that they both are putting in a ton of work. In the end he has nothing more to prove at this point.

Stop!! Don't you know all this technical talk kills the narrative?

Without football he falls into obscurity. He will just be another guy without an arm. People don’t talk about Jim Abbott anymore.

Actually, every time I see a #18 GIF, I smile. I don't think he'll ever get old. He's just the perfect guy for a Meme or GIF response.

Its unfair that in football, players only get recognition for negativity like getting cut/injured/arrested. we rarely hear a players name when good things are happening for them.
Its good to see that they are leverage their fame to better themselves and their family.

Agree!

But that’s not just limited to football. Generally speaking, negative news headlines are common than positive news headlines because it “sells” better.
