With Jacksonville's Stadium Of The Future coming, plus the 4 Seasons construction, plus CFP expansion, won't Duval be a shoe in to host future CFP games?
Homefield in NFL works because there is a defined criteria for obtaining it. I like the idea of all CFP games being neutral site similar to NCAA basketball tournament. As long as you have a committee deciding who gets the homefield they are going to stack the deck for Big 10 and SEC.I actually think the bigger advantage was the home games in the first round. I think the first 2 rounds should be on campus. It would make seeding still important, which keeps interest on the regular season and championship games. If you keep it the way it is now, what's to keep a team from tanking a championship game if they feel the better match up would be a lower seed? If your 2 round game is now all of a sudden an away game with a hostile crowd.
Yeah they need all games off campus. I don’t care if Georgia plays in Atlanta or Texas in Dallas, just not on their campuses. That’s not even close to fair.Homefield in NFL works because there is a defined criteria for obtaining it. I like the idea of all CFP games being neutral site similar to NCAA basketball tournament. The city has grown even more since 2005 though. Lots of hotels have been built in 20 years. The new stadium changes everything. I could see the Gator being one of the bowls that become a CFP game when they extend it to 16 because it's one of the prestigious ones.CFP isn't quite the spectacle that the Superbowl is, but when Jax hosted they had to bring in cruise ships to have enough hotel rooms for visitors. Couple years ago the city even said they didn't plan to host again anytime soon. Its a big city with a small town mindset, but maybe new admin and stadium changes things.
agree. The home games are a huge advantage (disadvantage for the away team obviously). I personally think it should be a neutral site because the 12 team playoff is a "ranking" from a committee. So, a "ranking" by a committee just gave a team a disadvantage. Take the ranking a bit more "out of the equation" by playing at a neutral site.I actually think the bigger advantage was the home games in the first round. Miami and Tampa are much better for hosting big events. Orlando would be too if there was a NFL quality stadium.CFP isn't quite the spectacle that the Superbowl is, but when Jax hosted they had to bring in cruise ships to have enough hotel rooms for visitors. Well there's not. So Orlando won't be hosting any CFP games in the foreseeable future. Jacksonville has to be a top candidate now.Miami and Tampa are much better for hosting big events. Orlando would be too if there was a NFL quality stadium.
Agreed. Did any visiting team win in this year’s CFP?agree. The home games are a huge advantage (disadvantage for the away team obviously). No. And then every single one of those home teams won the next game. Maybe was luck if draw. Not sure.Agreed. Did any visiting team win in this year’s CFP?
Wasn’t luck. Every winning team in the CFP so far had been the favorite. Straight chalk.No. And then every single one of those home teams won the next game. Maybe was luck if draw. Not sure.
no offense to our Duval Knights but Jacksonville isn’t a top candidate for big time events but maybe the SEC lobby would be for it as a hostWell there's not. So Orlando won't be hosting any CFP games in the foreseeable future. Jacksonville has to be a top candidate now.
The new stadium will change EVERYTHING for Jacksonville. As will the 4 Seasons and every new addition in the shipyard area that Khan is transforming. Everything is about to change for Jacksonville with one of the most advanced stadiums in the world.no offense to our Duval Knights but Jacksonville isn’t a top candidate for big time events but maybe the SEC lobby would be for it as a host
And Goodell has an unofficial rule about rewarding new stadiums w a Super Bowl so maybe it gets another one despite the issues they had last time.
Nashville is also building a new stadium, and is probably much more suited for these types of events than Jacksonville. I would think with Florida already having Miami and Tampa, that Nashville would be more likely, or at least more frequent than Jacksonville.Well there's not. Jacksonville has a historic, prestigious bowl that would be one of the ones to get elevated to a CFP game. Nashville does not. Ray Jay is not hosting any CFP games. The best stadium in Florida will be in Jacksonville. That leaves Jacksonville and Miami as your Florida options. Gator Bowl and Orange Bowl.Nashville is also building a new stadium, and is probably much more suited for these types of events than Jacksonville. Nashville has a bowl too, and I don't think the "historic" part matters that much outside of the rose bowl. Las Vegas hosts the championship games in a couple of years, and they dont have a historic bowl. Neither did San Francisco or Sofi stadium, Indianapolis, etc which have all hosted championship games. Maybe they replace tampa with jacksonville but I don't think it's as much about the stadium as it is the city. Miami, vegas, new Orleans, nashville, etc are big event type of cities. Raymond James has also hosted a championship game. I think jacksonville could get a game on occasion, but I think nashville is more likely to be a regular part of the rotation.Jacksonville has a historic, prestigious bowl that would be one of the ones to get elevated to a CFP game. The historic part definitely matters and the Gator was mentioned years ago as a potential CFP game cause of it. It's the reason that the Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Peach, and Cotton were chosen as the NY6. Old, prestigious bowl games. Just like the Gator, Liberty, and Citrus. Orlando's stadium is not up to par and neither is the Liberty.Nashville has a bowl too, and I don't think the "historic" part matters that much outside of the rose bowl. Big 10 and SEC Champs losing isnt chalk. In a 2 team playoff they would have been the 2. In a 4 team it would have been them and Texas plus Penn St. Penn St doesn’t beat either of them. Ohio St gets left out and they could be the NC.Wasn’t luck. Every winning team in the CFP so far had been the favorite. Straight chalk.
Between f'n Duke and Ole Miss? 😆 The attendance was great considering that! How bout bringing up the attendance from every other year it's been there. Which is forever.the Gator Bowl having less people than a USF game the other night isn’t helping your argument
also it isn’t a shot at the people that live in Jacksonville, you can think it sucks to live in Miami but admit it is built for big events and what sponsors love.
So is Chicago. What's your point?Jacksonville is nationally known as being bad. Gang infested and bad schools. Youtubers go there and film themselves walking in the bad neighborhoods.
There have been championship games in multiple sites that do not have historic bowls, and there will be playoff games too. Almost all the major bowls are in tourist types of cities and Nashville fits that description more than Jacksonville. The historic part definitely matters and the Gator was mentioned years ago as a potential CFP game cause of it. I understand that alot of people like to talk down on Jacksonville. However, that's not gonna stop the growth. It's one if the fastest growing cities in America and it's in Florida. Now it's gonna have the best stadium in the state and one of the best I'm the world. It's definitely gonna be one of the top cities considered when expansion happens and it will be one of the favorites.
You're probably one of those who didn't think the city would be rewarded an NFL franchise in 93 too and we see how that turned out. Still there 30 years later with a new stadium on the way!!! Despite what all doubters had to say about the team relocating.
Let's just see how things turn out once the new stadium is completed. There have been championship games in multiple sites that do not have historic bowls, and there will be playoff games too. Almost all the major bowls are in tourist types of cities and Nashville fits that description more than Jacksonville.
And I'm not talking down on Jacksonville, I'm just saying there are already several cities that are perfect for these types of events, and now Vegas and Nashville will be added to that list, and my guess, is that they will be above Jacksonville in the pecking order.
The current titans stadium and raymond james are very similar (i believe they had the same architect firms) and opened a year apart from each other, and nissan stadium is kind of a dump now. I've never been to rjs, but if it is anything like nissan stadium currently then it probably is time for a new one.I have always been a stadium nerd and on this topic it is really surprising that the Bucs owners haven’t demanded a major renovation to RJS or a completely new stadium.
it is outdated by current NFL standards. surprising nothing has come up bc the NFL likes Tampa as a host but the stadium has pushed it out of the rotation. It only got that last one where Brady won bc Sofi in LA construction got delayed and they pushed their SB back a yearThe current titans stadium and raymond james are very similar (i believe they had the same architect firms) and opened a year apart from each other, and nissan stadium is kind of a dump now. That's basically what nissan stadium is now too, just dated without a lot of the modernities of newer stadiums.it is outdated by current NFL standards. surprising nothing has come up bc the NFL likes Tampa as a host but the stadium has pushed it out of the rotation. No one wants to travel there. Chicago either. So is Chicago. What's your point?
So people don't travel to Chicago? 🙄No one wants to travel there. Chicago either.
Well I'm glad Jacksonville is out ahead.I have always been a stadium nerd and on this topic it is really surprising that the Bucs owners haven’t demanded a major renovation to RJS or a completely new stadium.
