Gus Malzone needs to resign.I just saw this. Looks like he had help in preparing this letter.??
Why does that matter? He signed it. That’s all that matters.I just saw this. Looks like he had help in preparing this letter.??
He wasn’t really playing was he? That’s the point in him wanting to RS. He didn’t want to wait until 5 games left to play and burn a year. Unless he was playing. I didn’t see him much.Barring injury…….If a coach gives you a scholarship and needs you to play to help the team win, then the player has an obligation to his teammates to play. The team is trying to win games. I don’t think playing when needed is an unfair expectation.
I graduated from Apopka and loved it when we finally signed some Apopka boys. So Nikai and Kaven were some of my favorite players to root for, but not playing when needed is not good for the team.
The team is trying to win games and needs depth to overcome injuries, rotate players in for breathers, and have the best players making plays on the field. I’m sure Gus would have let him redshirt if he felt he had depth and didn’t need him to play this year.
It sounds to me as though Gus was completely honest from the get go on his expectations. That’s like getting upset over getting fired after the boss asked me to do something and I chose not to do it. It’s a natural consequence.
Until he leaves he has all of the resources at his disposal. He was literally telling the coaches not to put time into him. That’s why he announced he was redshirting. There could be more to this story. If he was redshirting just to transfer at the end of the year, and the coaches knew it, then why continue to devote time and resources to him? Now he may deny he was going to transfer, but let’s be honest, that is how healthy redshirts are being used by players (or their agents) in this broken system. I’m no fan of Gus but this is only one side of the story.

Win 5 or 6 games tops. Players have to think of themselves. If we were on pace for 11 wins you put team ahead of yourself. What’s the difference if we play walk ons or not? Not winning anyway. Plus the freshmen are on scholarship too. Play them if the scholarships are precious.Yes, He’s only played in 3 games, but you still need depth. We lucked out with Kelly’s injury not being season ending, but it looked like Kaven was in the 3 deep.
Another injury to a DE and we’re playing walk ons or freshmen not physically developed. We have enough depth at DT to survive John Walker’s injury, but DE is a weak position for us. He’s on scholarship to play and help the team this year and right now.
I tend to side with players when it comes to getting NIL, scholarships, being able to transfer, and not having to sit out. But if I’m a coach who gave you one of my precious scholarships to help our team win games and you tell me you don’t want to play until next year …then that’s not what we agreed to and you’re only thinking about yourself.
I'm sure its a mix of both. Winning solves problems, however, is there any indication this team is going to turn it around this year or be in a better position next year? If people are unhappy now, fast forward to another year of this.Wondering if people are unhappy because of losing, or losing because of being unhappy. I’m betting it’s the latter.
What team is winning? Got blown out by Colorado, shit the bed in Gainesville, lost to UC in a winnable game, if not for 2 pick 6s the game in Ames wouldve been another blowout, and the rest of the season dont look like it is gonna get much better. The staff has mismanaged the QB position with Castellanos and looks like Colson will most likely burn his redshirt this season. It wouldn't be a surprise that is happening with positions that are less noticeable.
The good news the team is winning and the future looks even brighter, so no reason to worry about players (from local schools) leaving disgruntled. *

The point was, he didn't write this himself, he's working with a professional. Why does that matter? He signed it. That’s all that matters.
Almost 100% of anything I sign has been prepared by attorneys and not written by me. When I sign it, its my letter or contract.
Hire professionals when available.
No depth on defense and the defense is spent by the end of the 3rd qtrYes, He’s only played in 3 games, but you still need depth. We lucked out with Kelly’s injury not being season ending, but it looked like Kaven was in the 3 deep.

I understood your point. Hence why I asked a question you didn’t answer. Why does that matter? The point was, he didn't write this himself, he's working with a professional.
Which is ironic, since many lament the portal. Yet the coaching staff clearly is focused on pulling in people from the portal and same fans that complain about players quitting cheer for transfers from other programs. They would throw a parade if Jeanty quit Boise and declared for UCF.The portal giveth and the portal taketh...
Next man up. We got a game to win this Saturday.
Sure, it is quitting on the team, to an extent. In a vacuum, maybe the way the chief of staff guy handled it was the right way. However, it’s 2024 and the way potential recruits perceive the dynamics of the team through word of mouth and social media is very important. Things leaking out like this may have a detrimental impact on future recruiting. Therefore, the way the chief of staff handled things was tone deaf to the current realities of college athletics, in my opinion. If that letter is true, I agree with the Chief of Staff. It is quitting on the team in my opinion. Unless he is injured or it is mutual decision or even a lack of communication, declaring you want to redshirt is suspect of the player already wanting to go in the portal. I'd play hard ball with him also. Clear out your locker.
People praised Mikey Keene for quitting on the team as well. Just think if he played we could have won the AAC and made to another big bowl game. But, nope...he quit, and we had a hobbled JRP playing in the championship game. Also, now let's file him under the He-is-A-Karen person by complaining to the management and then going to social media. That is a career limiting move. He got bad advice in my humble opinion. He should of stuck with the canned thank you for the opportunity but I'm moving on bit.
Like mentioned we don't know the other side of the story and probably never well.
It is somewhat interesting drama, but I don't think it 'shines a bad light' on UCF. It shines a bad light on players quitting on their team thru the transfer portal in mid-season. Good Luck to whoever this is. Didn't know him before and don't care to know him now. Adios .
Next man up, let's play some football. The drama queens can go portal out.
