Once this season from hell comes to an end and George is gone, we will need a new coach. Let's talk realistic candidates.
1. Matt Campbell-Toledo HC
2.. Mike Sanford-OC Notre dame
3. Jeremy Pruitt-DC Georgia
4. Jeff Brohm-HC Western Kentucky
5. Jake Spavital-OC TAMU

I don't know about GOL. He's been a great coach. But a wheel with the plays on it would be an upgrade on play calling.

Any capable coach with recruiting ties to the south

And for shits and giggles, I'd love to see some of the reactions around here watching our office if we hired Paul Johnson once he's fired from Georgia Tech.

UMass head coach Mark Whipple will be the darling come offseason. 29 point dogs at ND, might get the upset. This after almost beating Temple. Solid execution and play calling.

Doc Holliday was an Urban Meyer assistant coach at Florida. Im sure convincing recruits to play in Florida would be easier than West Virginia.*

Good God can you get off Cristobal. He had little to do with FIU's one good year. That had mainly to do with a Rutger's transfer QB and the Colt's best WR. When they graduated, FIU became a 1-2 win team. As for his recruiting at FIU- it's hardly meant anything, since they still stink. He's a great recruiter when he's got a big name U. behind him, quite ordinary when its FIU. He'll add nothing.

Jeez, somebody that can friggin recruit. I would go with Cristobal too. If there is any one reason more than anything for ditching the current staff , it's recruiting.

I just looked at S. Florida recruit commits vs. UCF commits. We're getting killed and it's still early. We just don't have that stellar recruiter on the coaching staff anymore, and the current staff just isn't getting it done. It's killing us.

If there is anything that will undo this UCF program for a multi-year tailspin it's recruiting.

Your facts aren't even correct. The QB was from Mississippi state and he wasn't even good. Also, he recruited TY Hilton, so why are you discrediting that?

He's a great O-line coach now. Very highly respected. The fact that they stunk when he left is a positive in my opinion, not a negative

Also my point with Cristobal and is that he's well respected and has ties in South Florida. We need more of those savages down there and from Tampa.

Better athletes down there for sure. However it's so competitive now and just got worse.

I could see the new AD letting Strong go. He would clean up at UCF with his FL ties

Unless he decides to retire...he's not done at the end of this season. When we do need a new coach we should throw the net out large and wide, turn over stones. Unfortunately, schools tend to hire based on some kind of ties to coaches and not going in a different direction. You bring in the coach at Wyoming (who was the guy at the helm of North Dakota. You bring in SEC and ACC coordinators that are familiar with the southeast. Hopefully when we do need a new coach that is the way the process goes down.

It's going to probably be at the end of next year. He will try to go out with a winning season and next year is likely to have one. If we somehow turn this around (very doubtful), than he MAY retire.

It's amazing how many people post on firing GOL. It's not happening and he's retiring soon anyway.

I'm implying that George retires and or Hitt forces him to like FSU did with bobby

There's actually a good amount of underrated athletes that big name schools don't pick up. We ended up getting one last year with Causey and we were in the running for Rashad Fenton as well but I I think he didn't start getting recruited by bigger schools later on in the process.

Geoff Coolins- UF DC
Tyson Summers- CSU DC
Darin Hinshaw
Brian Vangorver- ND DC
Charlie Strong- UT HC

Sanford gets it:
"“The biggest thing that I’ve found is that championship football a lot of time comes down to who runs the football the best and then who makes the explosive plays down the field in the throwing game. I think the Stanford background combined with being in the spread offense and the ability to run the quarterback and what that does in terms of man-to-man coverage defense teams, a lot of them don’t account for the quarterback.

“That’s had a big imprint on me and then this past year at Boise State, having a chance to be a part of a championship football team that ran the football well, had good balance. I think the hallmark of Boise State offenses has been running the football and having explosive, creative offensive schemes. That’s what I think we were able to get done this year.”

I want him as hc.

All these young coordinators are a bad choice. Sure they're the hot name in coaching and would bring in some exciting recruits for a year but as soon as a P5 job opens up they're gone. It's not worth it for a short term injection, the thing with GOL is he was in it here for the long haul. We need someone else who's been around awhile, is a bit older and looking for his last coaching job not a stepping stone.

Bring them in but make sure they leave a mark on the program like a competent assistant who wants to stick around and they do the same etc

Chizik did it with Auburn's current coach, petrino did it w Jeff brohm etc. Sorry tell gol that argument will not work. Funny though you think it's OK for him to pull that shit off and make key the hciw

Well, what else are we going to talk about?

This. Your fan base expects an established coach, but your stadium size, ticket sales, and conference alignment make meeting those salary demands financially unsustainable. You need a guy with college and NFL experience that isn't going anywhere and doesn't expect to be paid to stay. Dave Wannstadt was a bad coach, but someone with his age and experience would be a good idea. Lol at the Jake Spavital comment above. Delusional.

Yeah cause it's not like the aac is filled with young former coordinators who surprised most pundits by taking aac jobs. Oh wait, it is filled with those young coordinators.
