Seriously Michigan State jumps to number 18 from NR because a win over Maryland??? Or because they play Ohio State next week???

Probably OSU next week. When we beat Maryland it’s because they suck.
Man, I completely missed that. Wow, another blatant attempt to try and improve Ohio State's image. They can claim they beat another ranked team, even though, if Mich State loses, they won't be ranked any longer.
Teams should only be judged on ranked wins/losses on the latest rankings. I'd throw in the AP poll as well, since it also comes out after the Bowls and CFI are complete. The AP poll moved them from NR to #24, and in the Coaches poll they still are not ranked.

For a playoff, conference champions get in, then whoever are the next top ranked teams(based on computer poll/s).

You are right it is to help the whol big10 image. Ohio State is a dumpster fire. They want to keep Ohio State ranked so when they lose to MI state. They don't drop too far before playing Michigan
Last week they mentioned ACC teams at the bottom part of the Top 25 to help Clemson's argument into the playoffs.
