Milton....

There's a scenario where Holman can't go, Patti shows no threat to throw the ball or move the offense, and Frost doesn't think Milton is ready/doesn't think it's right to burn his redshirt. Then who do we go with? The only other QB that made the trip to Ann Arbor was Pete DiNovo... :flushed:

It sucks to have to burn Milton's red-shirt but I am not sure we a chance at winning at all with a hobbled Holman and Nick Patti.

Can we win with Dinovo or Harris?

This is the BIG question that we may only find out on Saturday night at kick-off! :)

Maybe sophomore Holman will show up again
I just think that if Holman is not fully up to speed (Hamstring) then the opposing defense will just blitz and blitze and then it's Michigan all over again :-/

Also, you have to wonder how much was Holman in 2014 and how much was probably the be best set of receivers UCF has ever had: Perriman, Hall, Reese, Worton

IDK why people are scared if Milton starts and we burn his redshirt... Look around the league and you will see a bunch of true freshman QBs starting and lighting it up. (I.E Texas)
I for one would love to see him play some snaps. He can play 2Qs and we can still redshirt him if i'm not mistaken.
He was built for this offense and so are the 2 other QBs we have coming in this next class. I say let Frost get his guys in to run his offense and get points on the board and some W's.

Excellent point!! Go Milton!

The Hamilton & Jordan Johnson quick move up the depth chart is just another example of Frost using the Pete Carroll at USC approach, if he thinks a Freshman is the best option he will play over someone that has been at UCF 3+ years.

We are not going to see Seniority favoritism/nepotism like the last Regime.

As long as fieldsmanship is still a large factor in the decision, I'm OK with the new approach.

Agree with Jets. I understand they are working with a new system, and a new pace, but a combined 6-22 last game isn't going to cut it.

Because if the coaches did not think he was ready before, I am worried that nothing has changed and we will be feeding him to the wolves. Sink or swim is not an effective teacher. Obviously those other freshmen were ready because they were starting from day 1. Frost obviously had a reason not to start Milton day 1. You also have to take into account that there is more than QB issues to deal with. The whole team is adjusting.

Pretty sure his redshirt is gone once he hits the field. Otherwise he'd have to get hurt before 1/2 way point of the season for a medical redshirt.

Frost said this week that both Holman and Patti went 3 for 11 in 1st and 2nd half last week and
that it wasn't good enough to win football games. I believe it simply depends on these
two players doing better than 3 for 11 completion ration. If they don't or it Holman is hurt
and Patti starts off 3 for 11 again then there will be a change because Frost already said he
has expectations that need to be met. He wasn't putting all the blame on the OL.

Milton is the next option (#3) because he makes passes and runs well in practice.
It's all on the players. I'm glad Frost is being open to do whatever needs to be done.

These days burning redshirts isn't a big deal. If the guy ends up being great he leaves after sophomore season like Winston or Junior year like a day 1 starter. If FSU starts Winstin from day 1 they have another championship. If we start Bortles from day 1 we may have had 2 great seasons. You are either good or you aren't. Very rarely does a first year starter in college go from terrible to great in their 3 or 4 years.

Yeah College Football is different now. There are a bunch of QB camps(the Opening, 7 on 7s) where you have HS QBs getting the the type of mentoring/mechanics coaching that QBs from 10-15 years ago didn't get till they were done with College.

I saw Milton practice during 2-a-days last month. He has the quickest release of all the UCF QBs. He is a dual threat guy...very quick. IMO, he is not a an extremely accurate passer, but quite good. He has a 3/4 arm delivery....not a sidearm thrower but not the classic overhead release like the NFL guys. He does not generate great velocity on his passes, but he has enough (see Jim Plunkett). I suppose he could wing the ball 55 yards if he had to.

At 5' 11' and 175 pounds he is as big as Houston's star QB.

I thought DiNovo looked good in practice and he looked like he could run the Oregon-type offense. Kruczek looks like the best passer for UCF, and Harris is a good passer as well, but I would say those 2 have the least amount of running ability.

IMO the problem with Kruczek is the amount of time it takes him to set up to pass and to release his passes. Like slow motion compared to Milton...but if given enough time, Kruczek is a very accurate passer and IMO he is the best at going through progressions and finding the open receiver.

Only 3 QBs made the trip: Holman, Patti & Milton. #Confirmed

Ok, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the crazy one because I remembered seeing that DiNovo made the trip over Harris and Kruz in the Slantinel. OS sucks at covering UCF, obviously.

The Fear of Change is strong with some

I may have personal bias from hanging out with Justin and Nick a practices. But objectively, Justin, Nick, Tyler, and Pete are the highest rated QBs recruits we have had since Daunte. Starting a freshmen this year with all new coaches means Tyler, and Pete will probably transfer out and we lost use of 4 scholarship QBs.

I'm all for doing whatever to win games. Since practices were closed lets not act like any can say objectively that Milton is or could be better than Justin, Nick, Tyler, and Pete.

I hate arm chair coaches who favorite player is always the backup QB. [smoke]

Practices were open to those who attended one of the UCF football fantasy camps for 3 days...like I did.
