Milton....

Huh? You ALWAYS look to sign better and better players each and every year...including QB.

If Milton has a great game tonight...that's wonderful...but Frost (already has 2 QB verbals) knows he needs QB recruits every year...as one can never predict injuries, off the field issues, those that just don't perform well at the next level, etc...

Frost (and any HC) will look for QB replacements each and every year...as you never know which one will "get it" at the college level.
This year.

21/ 36 for 260yards Passing(A couple of those passes to T. Smith on 3rd and longs were amazing)
+7yards rushing

Turnovers
1 Interception
The Ugly: 3 fumbles lost

Holman picked up just 212 yards in the first two games combined with less turnovers but other than maybe 2 drives vs SC State wasn't able to move the offense

For me, the camp was one of those bucket list items. I was surprised when UCF offered it, and I felt like it was a once in a lifetime type deal. It was 3 days I will never forget.

After camp I felt that Holman was the strongest QB and felt he would become the starter. Milton and Patti are very similar. Patti is a real cool customer. Patti and Milton are both very mobile, and I felt that Patti was just as accurate passing the ball as Milton, but after seeing Patti throw against Michigan, that may not be the case. But I will stand by my observation that Milton has the fastest release of all the UCF QBs.

For three days I was #72 on the UCF roster. But do I really need to start a thread about it?

I don't know if you know this, but I'm kinda a big deal when it comes to UCF athletics. So when I say this is awesome, it means alot. Because I said it.

You nailed it with your assessment of the QBs. I've been to dozens of practices with these QBs. Talked to the coaches. You nailed it.

The thing is UCF is used to super star practice QBs who are terrible in the game. It's the strangest thing...

Personally, I'm tickled to death that a Nebraska fan who has probably been following cfb a lot longer than UCF has been playing FBS football took part in such a unique. UCF experience. That's cool. Charge On!

Ignore the stats. I'll admit Milton has the "it factor."

It sucks that our best QB recruits basically never lived up to expectations and hope. They will be gone after this year. That's nothing to celebrate. We are back to having absolutely no depth in the QB spot. We can only hope to bring in 3-4 QBs this year.

*Realized most don't go to practices. A team needs 4 good QBs to develop as a team. I'm not going to explain it bc I hope everyone can count to 3, strings and knows there is this thing called scout team.

So basically what I'm saying is we are trying to win today at the sacrifice of tomorrow.

Understood. Yes I am a new UCFan. I was rooting for SF back in 1996 & 97 when he was a Husker QB and I find that I am still rooting for him.

I was very impressed with DiNovo in practice. He looks like a very athletic fellow. I heard that he started a game in Ireland a couple years ago and he played poorly. Holman took over from there. Yep, some guys are great practice players but when you put them under the lights they lack confidence and get nervous.

Milton looks like he has a lot of moxie. I like his style. He plays with no fear. However, as I said, he is not a particularly fine passer, but he's OK. Now that I have seen him in live action, he looks to be even more mobile than Patti.

I wish we had gone for 2 in the 1st overtime. It looked to me that Maryland was moving the ball better than UCF at the end, plus Maryland has not turned the ball over once this year. So without getting a turnover in overtime, and with Maryland looking stronger toward the end, why not go for 2? I am sure SF considered it.

I thought he was going to with all the risks he took on 4th down but I see why he wouldn't want that being the first questionable decision if the 2 point conversion failed leading to the loss. That extra point was really close to missing which would have been so UCF

Bianchi will be talking about the QB situation

Can we please stop talking about Holman coming back. He's 9 games away from being gone forever and we just burned Milton's redshirt. With lesser competition coming up, why would we throw away one of his 4 college seasons? Now you have to see what he can do. Other than correctible mistakes, he hasn't shown anything that warrants giving up the starting position.

There is no more controversy and fans need to get use to new style of game day play calling, etc.
Milton said "we need to play faster next week". He doesn't plan on sitting down. Also, that he needs to clean up turnovers. Oleary ball is in the past. We have 2 verbal QB recruits and
all the rest except for Milton and Kruz will be gone next season. In the past we had 4 QBs on our team. We'll be fine!

I watched the play clock. The offense seemed so much faster at times that I missed some plays watching as a fan.

Maybe not every time, but it was clearly faster and it seemed like Milton was looking to the sidelines less than the other QBs in the first 2 games. The offense was being run so much faster that players couldn't handle it and that caused a lot of the mistakes and penalties. That will be cleaned up with experience.

One way of looking at it was that Spring, August practice, and Games 1 and 2 were boot camp for the rest of the offense to get up to speed and learn the system so they'd be more ready when Milton came on.

I know that on this board we engage in the technical needs for winning games, as we should. But I would like to add that even with a 1-2 record so far this year, this team is exciting to watch. There are playmakers all around playing with passion.

And yes, Milton looks good. If we can improve his protection, I feel his upside is huge!

I think Maryland is a much better team than last year and they had to fight their tails off to win that game. Both teams played with great determination. If UCF can keep improving and playing with that kind of effort they should have a very good season. But the AAC is a tough conference with no gimmes. UCF will have to fight for everything they get.

UCF out-yarded Maryland but Maryland won the turnover battle 4 to 0. That was a big factor in the outcome.

After seeing UCF play as well as Maryland, I think they will be very competitive in the AAC.

This is a much improved Maryland team. You have some speedy playmakers and the QB play is nearly flawless in regards to not turning the ball over, running when necessary for positive yards and finding the open man. You probably will win 6-7 games this year and go bowling, but I doubt that you will be ranked. This last game certainly tells us a bit more about where UCF is. We can play with a lower to mid-level Big 10 team at home. Hopefully we are closing in on the level of our 2014 team.

Id like to add, "we can play with a lower to mid-level Big 10 team at home" while losing the turnover battle 4-0!

If we win the TO battle in a game this year, we win. We have the talent! We need to execute better. (Tough when starting so many underclass men and freshman on offense)

I feel like this defense is due for a big turnover game. The guys are flying to the ball and we're pressuring QBs. One of these games coming up soon we will steal on defense with turnovers and that will only further fuel the offense too.

Remember that UCF was the last team in America to get an INT last year. This year, there's barely been a couple opportunities for a recovery or pick. Don't know if we've been unlucky, teams were surehanded, or what.

yeah I thought they would get at least 1 vs Maryland

but I can't complain too much about this D so far, they are playing fast and tackling well.

Bresnahan had them going for ball strips which most of the time led to more broke tackles and big plays

I don't know how these teams that we are playing can be so immune to turnovers. I think it's a combination of
the above. We have had a few blown opportunities for 1-2 picks

I may have personal bias from hanging out with Justin and Nick a practices. But objectively, Justin, Nick, Tyler, and Pete are the highest rated QBs recruits we have had since Daunte. Starting a freshmen this year with all new coaches means Tyler, and Pete will probably transfer out and we lost use of 4 scholarship QBs.

I'm all for doing whatever to win games. Since practices were closed lets not act like any can say objectively that Milton is or could be better than Justin, Nick, Tyler, and Pete.

I hate arm chair coaches who favorite player is always the backup QB. [smoke]
I knew you didn’t watch Milton in practices. Not sure why you are pretending you did in other threads.

The Hamilton & Jordan Johnson quick move up the depth chart is just another example of Frost using the Pete Carroll at USC approach, if he thinks a Freshman is the best option he will play over someone that has been at UCF 3+ years.

We are not going to see Seniority favoritism/nepotism like the last Regime.

Milton could be bad at first but can our QB numbers get any worse right now?
when B&G posts a years old posts and you don’t facepalm yourself 🤦🏽‍♂️😎[smoke]

I don’t really care one way or another but I remember when people complained that Frost cut off access to practices.

Cut off access to the public. People who went couldn't give detailed descriptions.

Do you not remember multiple UCF podcasts popping up during this time and giving practice updates

I was impressed with Trysten Hill, the RBs Hamilton & Killins, with the Griffin Twins, & Pittman. Lots of good LBs. I saw that Holman can do damage with his feet, but I suppose he never had the chance under O'Leary's scheme. As a football scout I am just an amateur, but I just wanted to let Honors know that I was an actual observer...that my opinion is based on something tangible.

I was very impressed with SF as a HC and will all of the assistant coaches. SF is a strong, steady leader who gives the impression he has been a HC for quite some time. He seems to be perfectly suited for the position of HC. IMO, he is a motivated visionary who has great character and capabilities. He is on a mission...a championship mission. He is one guy who will absolutely not accept losing. He pushes the envelope every day.

SF was a champion as a player and I expect he will become a champion as a HC. He has some serious leadership skills. He is a smart guy. He is one of those rare individuals who can juggle 100 balls at the same time. He is a great communicator/teacher and best of all he puts the welfare of his players above everything else. He views himself as the servant of his players.

But SF is not the only good HC in the FBS. There are many of them. It is a competition.

It's amazing what you learn from going to practices.
These were new names and certainly did very well at UCF.
Good stuff

I remember no media was allowed. Brandon was complaining he didn’t have access like he did with GOL.

GOL.

I believe you're thinking of 2015, GOLs last year. I bumped a 2015 thread about that.

This thread is from 2016, Scott Frost's first year.

I met a defensive coach right after he got hired. He gave me an invite to go to practices that year. I put pics on social media of that meeting. Posters here are connected to that. But I stopped talking about details at practices publicly after 2015.
