Next "Game of the Year", tonight (Thur 7 pm) UCF at Cinci ESPN2

5 point loss to a very good team on the road is probably a win at home by 5

Meaning we are almost as good as Cincinnati with a rich history. I’ll take it

At johnny's level of recruiting this will be the most talented team he will ever have at UCF. We are seeing our ceiling for the program under dawkins - and its a fringe ncaa/NIT team.
My #1 team is St. John’s. #2 is UCF

Nothing wrong with a fringe NCAA team/NIT team.

Neither team can expect to be Duke.

So Honors, when UCF loses again to UH, Cincy and Temple, do you REALLY think they are tounry-bound, with ZERO Q1 wins?

I'm looking forward to your Black/Gold glasses analysis.

We already beat Temple.

Yes we will need a Q1 win. I thought 20% chance to beat Cincy at their place was fair.

I think we can and need to beat Cincy at home and Temple away.

Going 0-4 in our last 4 is a real possibility.

To be honest, I'm "new to college basketball"

Cincy is a legit blue blood top 10 program. So is UConn.

Our fans should be very proud that we expect to beat UConn home and away, and UCFeel like we can beat Cincy on a good day.

So, I will take this as a moral victory too.

Cincy is a lock for the tournament and a top 25 team. And UCF looked like the better team at times in the game. On the road. Refs favored Cincy down the stretch and the rest is history.

Cincy dominated the offensive rebounds and shouldn’t have... we should beat them at home and hope we can step up and beat Houston.

Cincy is 48-2 at home in the last 3 years. I think we showed last night that we were a tournament team. Some of you are delusional because of the success we had had at football. The AAC is a basketball conference and if we can finish in the top 4, that is saying something. This is the best team we ever had and I believe Johnny Dawkins is the real deal. Basketball isn't about recruiting high school seniors unless you are a blue blood program. It is about picking off transfers who aren't getting playing time at their current school.

Without Zion Duke isn’t a top 10 team either.
When the NBA sets the draft age back to 18 and implements the rules for an updated G-League that will take high school kids straight in, teams like Duke, UNC, Kansas and Kentucky are going to lose the majority of those high-end McDonald's All-Americans and not have as much of a talent gap as they have now.

Don’t be so sure of that. The kids with Star power are still going to go to those schools and build their brands in front of sold out arenas for games that air on ESPN.

They aren’t going to want to play in empty arenas on games that no one watches. You don’t get shoe deals that way, even if you are getting paid.

Lol at accepting moral victories. I’m sorry, but you want to be attractive to the Big 12, who thrives in basketball, you cannot accept moral victories. Especially since this was “the best Ucf team ever” on paper at least. Not being able to beat the big teams smu in 2016, Houston and Cincinnati this year is unacceptable. Not with what everyone was sold. Now we can talk about how bad most cbb media is, but that’s for another thread. Moral victories are for cusa teams, not teams trying to expand.

Dawkins absolutely cost ucf last night. His rotations late were horrific. Why Allen was in over Bertz, who stretched the defense with his 3 point shooting, was confusing. Tacko got pushed around by a 6’10 dude twice down the stretch which is on Dawkins cause how the **** is he still so soft in year 3 of Dawkins ball? Collin Smith was a complete liability in last 5 minutes. He had a wide open shot but passed it with 3 seconds on shot clock that helped change momentum.

This isn’t a good team. It’s a team that beat some scrubs and can’t beat top teams
I guess it depends on your definition of good team. It’s a 30-40 rank tournament team. If that’s “good” or not is a matter of opinion.

You must not have followed UCF for long. Even after last nights loss, this is in fact the best team we have had with the only exception the nit final four team. We should be better, but we’re not. It’s a process and Dawkins is on a short leash. We are a top 50 team which is pretty damn good and there is still more to be played.

Now the loss to witchita and FAU, those are gripes I can get behind.

Ps, Terrell held the top scorer in check for basically the whole game. You don’t sub out that defense for a 3 point specialist in a low scoring game. Plenty of other issues last night including offensive movement or griffin playing instead of BJ on cincy’s last possession and griffin giving up the game clinching 3.

Tacko has some big plays last night but the refs tend to let him get whacked by opponents consistently. You play Tack because of his presence on D. Scoring is a bonus.

We all want to be an NCAA team, the fact is this game doesn’t cost us the bid. FAU and witchita would.

If we got the same kids no, but there will be a trickle down affect and we could get FAU or Stetson type players. I only see 5-10 kids being good enough a year. Too many kids will flop.

KenPom has them 50th which is the best site to determine how good a team is since KenPom has a team of guys that watch every single college basketball game and measure the efficiency. That’s mediocre.

Name for me the best win UCF has this year. Memphis? They’re horrific on the road. Bama? Bama lost to a bad uf team. Rider? They were 5-7 before their awful conference started. Not having a single good win undercuts any argument for this being a good team.
Cool story. The metric that they actually use for tournament selection has them in the top 40. RPI they are 31. At any rate a top 50 team and currently in the tournament by most projections would classify as good in many people’s eyes.

I'm sorry, you must have been looking for a board that cares about the Big 12 or your opinion.

Nobody on here knows more about Cincinnati basketball than Flem and I. You are welcome.

Today at noon. Not game of year but I think is a must win. Bubble teams keep losing. Only 3 weeks to prove we belong.

This team is playing very well. Lost to a team that has won 48 of the past 50 at home in a game where UCF honestly looked like the better team. If they lose to a team that has won 33 straight at home the board will melt down again.
