I could see it in 2-4 weeks, another month of vaccines oughta do it. Hopefully he can override county mandates though or some may still be stuck.

Mask mandates in Fla were never state level to begin with. Many local gov'ts required them and many private businesses required them. and Federal facilities had mandates. Agree once those over 65 who want vaccines can get them no reason to have mandates anymore. Right now the waiting list in Fl is still pretty high. I play the publix lottery 3x per week with no luck so far, and in our county the 2 to 3k vaccines available each day still go in 45 minutes, and it is still hard to get in.

Republican governors remind me of impatient kids on a long family drive to grandmother's house. "Are we there yet?" :)

The governor in Texas said that removing the mandate doesn’t end personal responsibility and that they don’t need the state telling them how to operate. That’s probably the best thing a politician has said in the last five years. Of course, statists then panic and call Texas backwards. Are there so many people that have been overly nurtured as children that they can’t function as adults without government dictating their every move?

We have no idea if masks work. We do know that mask mandates don't affect the spread of the virus, as evidenced by New York and Texas.

I think there are two types. The first is the elitist bigoted prick that thinks they are the only responsible ones and everyone else is deplorable and must be forced to do the “right” thing. The second is the person that is projecting their own lack of values and responsibility on the rest of society. I’m not sure which is worse.

A tough choice, right? The first type, pricks like me, are pretty much harmless. We only annoy you.

But the second type is responsible for spreading a contagious virus, at a time when new, even more contagious strains are appearing. So after careful deliberation, I'm picking the second type.

The first one is worse. The second one is at least partly passive. I saw this tweet and it summed up my politics pretty well:

I get it, guys. The first type pushes your buttons. The second type could infect you and your loved ones with a deadly virus without your knowledge -- but at least he does it without being an annoying dick about it! :)
The first type feels they get to tell you what to do because they just know better than you.

Covid has a similar death rate as the flu, the difference is that it's a lot more transmissible. If we keep the economy shuttered, we are hurting the future generation.

If you have a nice job and can work from home you are lucky. There are millions of young people who are struggling with starting their careers and getting early experience

If the issue is wearing masks and social distancing during a f*king pandemic, who knows? Maybe they do.
If masks and social distancing works, let it stand on its own merit. Shouldn't be any reason to mandate something that is as sensible as you say it is.

30 million infections only known with testing. Sure the numbers is 3x or 4x worse to say it hasn't worked in the United States.

Tell that to those that lost their business that it worked.
Last I heard, it was 6.5 x as many. So that's like 200 million infections. Clearly the virus is burning itself out. Why people think we need 300 million vaccinations is utter insanity.

Given this ironclad logic, we should remove most of the criminal laws on the books. Any sensible person knows what's right and what's wrong.

I’m sure people like Gates, Buffet, Moderna CEO, etc. can give you billions of reasons why. Get the government and propaganda machines involved and their net worth increases by a good amount. I know you know that we have been had by the elite, it’s the others that are so slow to see it that has me worried about our future.

because a vaccination requires 2 shots, some go bad if not properly stored, etc.

and we have 328 million people, should order 556 million, 300 is weak numbers

There's definitely something nefarious going on. It's interesting to compare this to the Spanish flu of 1918. People don't realize that the only reason it's called the "Spanish" flu is because Woodrow Wilson and his WW1 allies forbid their media from reporting on it. Spain, being uninvolved in the war went ahead and reported on it so people thought it must have originated there and was getting hit hard, when it actually started in Kansas and the US was way worse.

what evidence do you have that this is experimental gene therapy?

Lots of vaccines require 2+ shots. This isn't unique to covid vaccine

I understand some people don't want a vaccine and that should be their choice. Doesn't bother me.

Well it isnt introducing a weakened strain of a virus, which is typically what would define a vaccine. This "vaccine" trains your body to make a protein strand that your body will also fight off. Sounds to me like it's reprogramming your cells to produce something they shouldn't. Kinda like cancer.

Removing the mask mandate is going to do nothing but cause fights and arguments with customers and store owners. He should have at least let that part stand.

It’s probably much worse this time. But I’m just riding that Crazy Train with Ozzy...

The media sells it, and you live the role”

Show some evidence that this vaccine works differently than other vaccines.

Show me evidence it's reprogramming your cells to produce something they shouldn't

Show me evidence that the vaccine can causes cancer.

If you don't want the vaccine and if you're afraid of it that's totally okay with me, I respect that. I'm willing to debate your claims, but you have yet to provide any evidence for them.

Sounds like you're just fear mongering tbh. If you don't want the vaccine that's totally okay with me, but you have yet to provide any evidence for your claims.
Evidence? It's the basis of what an mRNA vaccine is. It isn't introducing the protein spike, it's telling your body to create it. Nobody denies that.

I didn't say it causes cancer, I compared the action to cancer. Your cells are doing something they aren't supposed to be doing. This shouldn't be a controversial statement, and I do see a lot of promise in the future for this kind of treatment. The fact remains though, that this is the first mRNA vaccine ever used and we are still in the experimental stages. That's why it's only been approved under a EUA.

I think the j and j shot was over 90% effective with hospitalization and near 100% for death. That is all that is needed. 70% effective from getting it to begin with.
Fair points. I'm going to delete my previous post so I don't mislead people.

I find myself in the unusual -- and admittedly awkward -- position of defending a KNIGHTTIME post. :) ;)

My understanding is that the effectiveness of the flu shots we get every year is in the 60-65% range so the J&J shot is much better than that - and ensures against hospitalization and death. Most importantly, it significantly shortens the amount of time it will take to vaccinate most folks.

Still seems odd that leftists are offended by the idea of Abbott telling people that he trusts them to make good decisions. It's like they are suggesting that in general they think people are too stupid to make good decisions but also want those people to vote.

Seems odd you can't appreciate the message Texans hear when Abbott says EVERYTHING CAN NOW OPEN and mask restrictions have been LIFTED.

He long do you want us running around with masks? Keep in mind in bad flu seasons we get 70k deaths and nobody wears a mask.

We are already giving out vaccines and the timeline just got moved up to when everyone can be vaccinated. There is no reason people in Texas cant wear masks a couple of more months. I think lifting some restrictions is fine, but masks take absolutely zero effort, and as I said, this is just asking for constant fighting between business that require masks and customers that dont want to wear them.

The timeline is the same regardless. Who cares if someone gets it naturally or via vaccine at this point?

Because it isnt over yet, I dont understand your point.
I guess it doesn't seem all that complicated. Everybody will be able to get vaccinated within 2 months. If you're afraid of catching the virus naturally, just shelter in place for the next 60 days. If you aren't, go about your life as you see fit. Not much point in continuing to alter lifestyles anymore for the scared minority when all they have to do is wait a few more days to be safe.

Covid related ER visits are below 3% total nationwide at this point. We obviously aren't in danger of overwhelming the hospitals.
