OC...

My concern is that, in this day and age, to be a successful passing offense, you’ve got to find way to scheme guys open. Frost was able to do this. Heupel was able to do this. Gus’ passing concepts have not been able to do this. And I’m not sure Hinshaw moves the needle in this direction.
Frost and Heup had better QBs and WRs to work with. In 2016 they weren’t great. They became great by developing. In 2021 our top four receivers had 84, 38, 25 and 23 catches. In 2022 our top four WRs had 73, 56, 38 and 23. O’Keefe has left. That leaves Baker and Hudson, who were both starting for the first time in 2022. They weren’t here in 2021. Obviously the QB talent is a tad bit less than under Frost and Heup as well.

Just saying it’s hard to know that because of the lack of developed talent running in his offense. O’Keefe did just fine. Baker, Hudson, Keene and Plumlee were all new guys.

Maybe Auburn Legacy will now shut up about thinking Gus calling plays is the main reason we are not winning Natty's. That arguments gone. What's the over/under on him throwing Hinshaw under the bus and saying he isn't the right guy for the job? I say 5 minutes after the press conference completed.
It was 49 minutes...the over.

The kind of QB development Hinshaw described is exciting. If they can recruit the right guys, keep them here, and execute that plan, then we could have something there. Gus seemingly moving to CEO status and hiring out of his coaching tree (although he did work with Hinshaw here his 1st season) shows some growth from the stubbornness people like to talk about. As always, we will just have to wait and see!

Hinshaw and Addison should bring stability to the staff. Both previous OC's left after one season. TWill left after two. At least two of those guys used UCF as a stepping stone. I think both of these guys have a vested interest in the success of the program. I think both will be in Orlando for at least two, maybe three seasons.

Frost and Jeremy Pruitt were both better hires but both guys were one-and-dones.

Oh I thought he worked with Gus at Auburn. Didn’t realize it was here. Gus must be doing this for the older boosters that think Hinshaw is great.

Even witht the "to be successful," it still seems a somewhat strange way to put it.
I'm not surprised with the word desperate. After the unacceptable performance in our last 4 games even Gus knew that a change was necessary. The important thing is that he's making the changes that are needed! Kudos to Gus if he sticks to his word and manages the program like a CEO. And that means Darin and Addison are on the clock and need to get the job done. It's on them now....

Call me optimistic but if all Hinshaw does is add some good passing formations to the play sheet, Im pleased with it. He played for pass-happy Krucek. If he can have a solid 20-30 pass plays out of Gus’ formations it can be difficult for defenses to key on any one player.
Loved Krucek’s offense…fun to watch and QBs had good numbers passing. I think he’ll do a good job developing our QBs.

To me it's the same as saying someone is "hungry". In business I use that term to describe people that outwork their colleagues to reach their goals. Desperate to be successful says to me that he's highly motivated and eager to get to work. Hinshaw definitely made that impression. This is not a high-profile guy coming off of a failure and seemingly taking a step down to reset his career. This is a man that will be driven. He knows the opportunity that this is. He knows it's the highest-profile job he's ever had. Will it work? We'll find out. But I like the fire, and I get the impression the alma mater connection makes it that much more meaningful to him. It's personal.

The difference I saw with Krucek is he adjusted his offence to the talent he had on the field. Frost did the same. To be consistently successful I believe that is the key. No use running an offense you don't have the players to run successfully.

What kind of garbage program is Tennessee running? Last year they had a first time OC. He left, and now they hired another new, first time OC from within. FAIL.

Fat chance? If they pick up a transfer he'll start looking (at least he should). All depends on whether they get a transfer or not.
So he’s either 3rd string there or 4th here. If they are offering a scholarship and 2nd or 3rd that’s better than what we are offering. Plus their offense fits him better. That’s why he went to them in first place.

According to Darin's comments yesterday the QB position is open for competition. At Ole Miss he's a definite 3rd string or worse...here he steps into that open competition. Your supposition is that Davin couldn't compete. I think he could. But it's all moot unless he comes here....

After his press conference I'm sold. Passionate/happy to be here. Seems like he will take the job seriously and seems like he has a chip on his shoulder. He doesn't have the greatest credentials so I think he has something to prove. Good. I'm optimistic now.
I think some people were expecting kyle shanahan to apply. I think his passing and tempo mindset should mesh with gus’ tun heavy offense

I dunno.....having watched the Hinshaw press conference, he kinda rubs me the wrong way esp. his self-aggrandizing and obcession with god ("I'm gonna teach them about god"......wtf?).

However it's great to see us hire a UCF alum outside Gus's comfort zone. I'll be wishing him the best.

First off, I'd like to thank God for all of the blessings he has bestowed on me and my family. I'd also like to thank the University of Central Florida, their fans, and coaches. #RespectMyDecision #AGTG. #GodisGreat!!! S/O @GusBus #Blessed

In all seriousness though, Hinshaw looks and sounds like most coaches. I am excited to see Gus hire a guy outside of his normal circle. Darrin was UCF's big QB prior to Culpepper and UCF becoming a D1 team. Most recently, he's had success at Kentucky and UAB. I think he's a good choice for us. I thought it was odd that 2 years ago he was UCF's defensive analyst but he was the guy telling T.Will this is what the offense is doing, what their tendencies are, the keys to their success, and how you can disrupt their offense. I hope this translates into our offense being able to adjust at half time if we are not finding the success we expected.

That UAB-Miami game in the Bahama bowl was a fun watch. I didn't even know I was watching future UCF OC.

Trent Dilfer took over at UAB after the game so Hinshaw was unemployed and hanging in the bahamas.

I remember him playing. I graduated in 89 so that was the years of early alumni days in the Citrus bowl. Good times.

My take on Gus's comments...."The Portal is F_cked Up". A "Roster Coordinator" (RC) might become as important a job/role as anything but the head coach. If NIL isn't throttled-back with a set of rules that can be managed, this "RC" role might be where a lot of future head coaches come from. Talent overcomes coaching.
and that RC should be Gus as part of his CEO duties.

apparently the better you know the bible the better you play football. too bad in hinshaw's career that knowledge didn't help him be a great offensive coordinator.

I am also thankful for all the Blessings, gifts and talents my God has bestowed upon me and my family and for the mercy, kindness, goodness and forgiveness he continues to show us. Though I am a firm believer, I hope we can keep God and religion out of the football discussions and opinions of a bunch of armchair coaches and QBs. Hinshaw claims to be be a man of faith and I will take him at his word until he proves otherwise.

I get annoyed when recruits and players over use religion as well. that USF LB committed to UCF by prayer and now he is playing games . some of them use it as a shield to not get called a narcissist

Doesn't really have much of a place on a site like this does it? I don't mind a prayer for when someone is sick or injured or passes away like Jake Hescock but otherwise keep the discussion and opinions on football.

Been a fan for a long time. This is a home run. Gus understands what the fans are looking for and what we need.

I watched Darin for his whole career and was VERY impressed with both his
playing and the work of Kruczek (spelling?) with him.

Oh and by the way he develops QBs. He should know how to do that.

The players on the roster shouldn't be jumping ship with this hire,

I assume he was talking about Peyton Manning here.
