Looks like we are going to build the wall. Stopping immigrants/refugees from some questionable locations. All this winning is making me tired...

Forgot to mention his talks of severely pulling back funding of the United Nations. Re-examining our current deals. Pulling out of any deals with countries that have deals that go against countries with sanctions like Iran and North Korea.

You've got to love the response: "If Mexico is not going to talk about paying for the wall, then it's better that they don't come to that meeting".

I don't understand what leverage Mexico thinks it has here.

And why is building a wall, for which we've already started, sooooo offensive? There is only one border for which dangerous illegal immigrants enter from, and it's not Canada. It's almost like they concede that Mexico sucks so bad, they must advocate for the easiest possible way for people to escape illegally into America.

It's not that Mexico is against the wall. It's that they're against paying for it.

Everything I've read in the past says that Mexico really doesn't want a wall. It would seriously put a damper on their economy if the illegal immigration was squelched and they quit sending money into Mexico.

Well, no they don't want a wall, but they realize there's not much they can do about it. But they sure as shit aren't willing to pay for it. That's adding insult to injury.

And listening to Trump's explanation of how Mexico will pay for the wall sounds like similar justification wives use when they tell you how they saved money by buying more stuff you didn't really need.

I can almost assure you that the "wall" will become more metaphoric for a more border agents, more drone surveillance, clamp down on cities harboring federal fugitives, etc

There was a law passed in 2006 that authorized a "wall" of sorts and authorized the President the authority to spend up to $4B without further approval. So in theory, Trump could spend $4B before needing new appropriations from Congress.

I believe there will be a wall, not sure why any American would not support such a thing.

Because it is a waste of money. Why not put that money into our schools? Infrastructure? Police?

I know you will just say that everything Dems do is a waste of money, just giving my opinion. Enjoy your "wall" or whatever it ends up being when they don't actually build a wall.

I think there will be a wall, but instead of Mexico cutting a check it's going to be in the form of tariffs and whatever he negotiates with "new NAFTA"

because it will help with other things like keeping illegal drugs out. but im sure that would actually make you kinda sad.

Yeah... except that it won't. Most drugs that come through are smuggled in using normal commercial means and clever ways of concealment. We are talking well hidden within traditional imported goods and not only from Mexico.

And when they aren't being imported, they are being transported across the borders by means that a wall will be helpless to stop including:

1. Tunnels.
2. Planes
3. Homemade submarines
4. Drones
5. Catapults.

Don't believe me, see for yourself. Drug organizations and human smuggling coyotes will find a way to get around the "wall" just as they always have.

Silly young man, you have no clue about money to schools. Do you know the five highest per pupil spending in America is:

1. Newark - Graduation rate 67%
2. Buffalo - Graduation rate 55%
3. Camden, NJ - Graduation rate 64%
4 District of Columbia - Graduation rate 69%
5. East Orange, New Jersey - Graduation rate 57%

By comparison Orange County, Florida graduation rate is 90% and is not even in the top 100 school districts in spending per pupil. Now I will agree that Florida public schools suck compared to those say in New York(not NYC, they still suck) but money is not the problem.

Infrastructure, didn't we give Obama $800 billion for infrastructure that he just gave away to unions and such, guess you don't remember that.

Police, unless you're going to send each police unit a few tanks, their funding is through the local governments.

I quite enjoy that any come back you have comes down to me being young. All I hear is a grumpy old man yelling about the "good ole days".

You think I want Mexican stuff? We have better quality drugs being made right here in the good ole USA.

And if I want to be a bit more adventurous, hello Netherlands!

Another reason the "wall" won't work is because they'll just come through the U.S.- Canadian border. And would you look at that: U.S Border patrol agents are already seeing an increase in traffickers crossing it of all different kinds of nationalities.

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/17/us/northern-border-illicit-crossing.html

And it's not hard to understand why. The U.S. Mexican border is roughly 2,000 miles long and already has a number of fenced or walled off areas. Plus its under a ton of surveillance already through the use of cameras, drones, foot patrols, etc. In comparison, the U.S. Canadian border is the longest in the world at a whopping 5,500 miles and given no where near the amount of scrutiny as the Southern border.

If a wall is built on the Southern border, more will just come through the North which given the distance, terrain, and climate is a whole lot harder to make secure. And people will do it because when you're as desperate as many of these migrants are its amazing what they will endure and or come up with in order to get into the U.S. and escape their current situations.

Sorry BQ, but this isn't exactly correct. While some of the illegal drug activity is produced here in the U.S. most of it is smuggled in depending on the drug.

Heroin which requires poppy seeds is largely imported. As is cocaine which requires the coca leaf. And with Meth, 10 years ago methamphetamine was primarily made in the U.S. but as the Feds started to crack down on local laboratories it became cheaper to get it from Mexican organizations who can make it purer and in mass quantities. It's crazy to think that at one time Lakeland FL was one of the Meth capitals of the world.

Interestingly enough, the world's most dangerous drug right now is fentanyl which is a man-made synthetic heroin style opioid often combined with the properties used to tranquilize elephants. The labs used to create it are largely in China but we are starting to see the Mexicans either import the product directly or buy the required chemicals from the Chinese so they can start producing it themselves.

Regardless, the "wall" won't do a damn thing to stop any of this because these groups will just find a way to get the stuff in as they always have either through innovation or a different route. The map above shows just how many different routes (we know) have been used to import product.

Fentanyl: More lucrative than heroin and 100 times as potent.

Yeah, they will never think to go over or under the wall. :flush:

It's amazing what active border agents can do. Obama had border agents babysitting immigrants that crossed the border illegally instead of actually trying to stop them from crossing the border.
