Player Losses

Also Martinez, or is he more of a safety? Feels good to have some real depth at DB.
Plus I really feel like Hodges was one of the more improved players this year, looking forward to see the next step from sophomore to junior year. Also feel #31 Adams had some good moments this year as a true freshman. Hopefully the DB position that has been a real weak point lately can become a strength for us starting next year.
Although Bullard and Wilson at safety really need to learn how to wrap up and tackle. Got to have safeties that can tackle.

Definitely Hodges was solid this year. Bullard just needs mass lol. He seems to be all over the field but he looks like a child next to Newt, who I think was also quite good for us. Brown had a few nice pbu's against the Gators and I think led the team for the season. What a difference from Maxwell who was abused all season last year. Need a few more turnovers but I feel good moving forward.

TE Charlie Browder is transferring. Played minimally as a true freshmen this past season.

Gus tried to throw him a couple Fades/jump balls in goal to go situations, but he couldn’t haul anything in. Seemed tall but very thin for the TE position.

Wasn’t recruited by this staff, not a huge loss. Both both TE’s from last year’s class transferred out, leaving the position rather thin.

Yea position is extremely thin. TE wasn't on my radar before but we need to pick up 2-3 TEs in this class.

How hard is it to play TE? We have literally been looking for a TE since Coulibalie left in 2017
Hescock has been here since then and Heup didn't use the TE as much as Gus does so he recruited less than we need now. Plus recruiting was only ok and we've not had two or three TEs transfer out in the past year or two. Browder, Boerboom, and Forrest if I remember correctly. Big position in immediate need right now.

Getting the TE involved in the passing game has been one aspect of Gus' offense I am very happy about. Holler looks like a world-beater compared to Hescock. In fact it looked like that 2pt conversion would have been completed with Holler in the game, Hescock dropped another one. Love those TE routes!

Hescock was largely a disappointment. Coming from Wisconsin, we thought he would be a blocking wrecking ball....umm nope. And we found he wasn't very good catching the ball.

We do need an upgrade in the TE room with all the departures. Holler is a pretty good receiving TE.

Guys probably left because Holler is better and either Gatewood is switching or we have one coming soon and the staff warned the guys here they probably won’t play. We have to keep having guys leave if we want to add people.

Maxwell was roasted last season pretty consistently. I believe Jackson is returning. I like Hescock for all the wrong reasons, he's been a massive disappointment. I hope Bowser returns, but then expect a transfer from at least one of the other guys, like Coles maybe, or even Harvey. With the incoming freshman talent, there won't be tons of opportunities if Bowser stays. Does MAR still have eligibility?

Brandon Johnson was amazing this year for us, was sad to see him get zero action in the Bowl. Would have liked to send him off with a good game.
Coach didn't utilize Hescock. He used the other kid.

I thought (from last years play) that Hescock was the go to TE this season, but I see that coach didn't use him. Just my opinion.

Yeah, you guys can’t always just look at receiving stats to judge the quality of the TE room. Hescock had horrible hands, but I’ve always considered him a plus-blocker for a TE.

In Malzahn’s offense, WR outside-zone running plays (think O’Keefe a few times a game) are a big part of the scheme. TE’s are needed to seal the edge. They also have to play in space and get to LB’s/second-level on RB slow screens.

His hands were made of stone, especially this season, but there’s a lot more to the position.

That would really be a tough one. What a year he had. I see in the Dungeon there's mention of FSU.

What's up with all this turnover? This is insane.

Do we think it's Gus telling players they won't play or players wanting to get on a better team??

My guess would be that Gus is having 1 on 1's with some guys who probably won't see the field very much. If he is going to bring in 10 more players between the portal and the Feb signing period then we need to trim the roster.

I’m not going to fret about our star LB until there’s actually something to worry about, not some fan threads.

Let’s trust what UCF has built and that kids want to be here. Bethune made more plays on defense than literally anyone on our roster. He’s the heart & soul of the defense, and will certainly be captain next year. We don’t win the East Carolina, Tulane, or USF games without him.

All the other transfers that have left made little to impact on the field, so again - I’m not worried.

There’s not a LB in the portal better than Tatum Bethune.

I hope he stays but when there’s smoke …..fans here blew off the DG transfer rumors weeks before it was official

For what it’s worth, I was standing next to his mom after the midfield trophy celebration. Tatum came over to the thousands of fans still in the stands but instead of coming directly over to his mom/family, he went over to high five a group of his fraternity brothers. He celebrated with them for a long time and did an elaborate celebratory dance for them. He was loving every minute of it and he’s surely a big dog in that frat as well as the team. Perhaps just wishful thinking, but hopefully this was all a good indication that he stays at UCF for his Senior year.
Time of your life, kid! Don’t take it for granted.

Seems like Hescock has been with the team a long time. He must be getting close to 30 now. He made some great blocks over the years

Or it was a good bye.

Didn't Hescock have decent hands a few seasons ago? Maybe my memory is horrible, but I thought his hands were average at worst a few years ago. This year.....Yikes.

That’s my memory as well. Not sure what changed, but there were very few opportunities to go around for him at tE this year.

Sorry, guess this would be a better spot for this news.
The portal giveth and taketh away....if he does leave this is the 3rd transfer that impacts our starters. Unless it's coaching related or a hardship, it's hard to understand why starters want to move along but that's obviously going to happen and we need to get used to it.
