Player Losses

Why would Goode think Hunter will beat him for the job? Has Hunter played a single snap in college? Seems like there is an NIL deal in the works to me.
True. But Hunter was a former Gus recruit. and Hunter has size, 5 inches taller, and the same weight. Hunter has more upside long-term.

You can't make the NFL if you do not start, no matter what. Starting is a first-order condition.

That's true. This one will be interesting to see how it plays out. He's from DC and transferred to UCF from VT so I'm not too sure he's trying to move back closer to home.

Just hoping it’s anywhere except usf. That will be a guaranty starting gig and a gut punch. It will also make it hard to root for him, and I want to root for this guy.

Not sure why you would leave for NIL (if thats the case) when your one year away from the league anyways and set up nicely to get drafted if you have a solid year....... Also if we have guys transferring out because they are worried about playing time so be it. Rather have guys willing to bring on that competition that only makes them and everyone else around them better.

For context, I think it’s important to remember that Goode had someone transfer in that plays his same position last year as well (Ricky Barber, from WKU), so he’s been through a crowded rotation before.

The DL shuffles in and out a lot of guys, but Goode is a fifth-year guy who probably understands that Barber/Hester/Hunter have 2-4 years of eligibility left (and play his same position). Montalvo coming back for a sixth-year muddied up this situation a bit as well. Goode still could’ve been in the rotation, but I don’t blame him for looking elsewhere.

Still sucks, because he had such a great personality/smile. The guy battled for playing time, was getting better each week, and seemed to really love being at UCF. I guess there’s always a chance he could still come back.

Even if you take Hunter out of the equation, Goode had two younger players starting in front of him last season -- Barber and Hester. So he is likely doing what a lot of seniors did last year and looking for a starting gig in his final season.

The attrition at linebacker is crazy. There are two LB's on the spring roster who have played a snap at UCF -- Jean-Baptiste and Mosier, and Mosier barely played.

Bethune, Armstrong, Dawson, Powell, McMillian, Gilyard -- all gone from last year's roster.

I think all players at UCF understand how horrendous the program is at USF. I would honestly go to 25% of the FCS before USF, or about 25% of the G5 for that matter, and I'm not saying that being an UCF Homer. USF has major fiscal and attendance issues right now that puts it in the worst 1/4th spot of the G5.
