Puerto Rico's government raised its official Hurricane Maria death toll to 2,975 on Tuesday in the wake of a new estimate from researchers. The new figure is 46 times larger than the previous toll the Puerto Rican government released in December 2017, when officials said 64 people had died as a result of the storm.

that initial report was a joke. unfortunately a lot of people lost their lives because of that massive hurricane. i hope changes are made to better help the people down there because of this.

That damn governmental corruption is so damn rampid.
I’ve built all over millions of square feet of retail and industrial space. Nothing compares to PR in terms of governmental corruption. Chicago was the closest but the issue is, the people of PR were screwed over by their government.

A quick online look and I found 2 billion towards power grid, 9 billion to housing, 4.8 billion to Medicaid on the island. and billion for food stamps, there were also 100s' millions spent helping people who moved to Florida and Texas.

I am sure that was not enough, but with Puerto Rico, the US virgin Islands, Fla, and Tex getting hit the same year, It is a financial mess.

Interesting look by using cell phone data tracking users moves.

Nearly half of those that left Puerto Rico moved to Florida and the most popular county for them to move to was Orange, followed by Osceola.

Which state did they go to?

Florida: 43%
New York: 9%

If the PR is going to have any chance of rebounding and rebuilding, these people need to go back at some point. Their economy is already in the gutter and things will only get worse and worse if their population is aging and their young generation has left.

Lol at them going back to PR. WC got jokes today. Surprised a lot to Orange vs Osceola. Whatevs. All part of our masters plans to turn a good swath of the country in to Brazil or similar 3rd world shit hole & vote socialist

Tinfoil rhetoric aside, it is disappointing that a large group of people who just lost everything are going to sway an entire region’s political composition by most likely voting for whoever offers them free stuff. Understandable on their part but disappointing on the larger scale.

Right? Can't believe they let these people vote! Super dissapointing.

WTF is up with outright racist shit from what used to be normal people like fab, wayne and sk8? Did electing Trump just give you a get out of jail free card to say super fuked up shit outloud?

Eh. I have PR friends and they're quite conservative actually. Devout Christians who have issue voting for D's who cheer at the thought of slaughtering the unborn.

My poorly expressed point was that it can be very disruptive to have any large group of people migrate to a new area en masse and then vote in that new area. Especially if they don't end up permanently relocating. Assuming that they would automatically vote Democrat, largely because of the thought that people who just lost everything would be favorable to a party that promises to give them things from the government, was an ignorant assumption.

I love how democracy is only ok for you and sk8 if the people voting all have the same political views as yourself.

Insane.
