Recruiting Update Thread

This is why I don't excited about any of these commit announcements. Ever.
every post of our QB Commit being so pro UCF just reminds me of Castellenos who did the same thing and was gone after 1 year

I hope this class doesn’t fall apart but the rumor is we are about to lose multiple . Terry’s argument for the Gus extension was recruiting so if we fall back in rankings …

Yep, I still remember those tweets of calling himself the “hero” ready to save the day here. Though I believe he was absolutely justified in leaving thanks to Gus

Even if we don’t lose anyone else, when other schools get commits they will pass us in rankings. We got a bunch early and it looked more impressive than it will end up being.

He was pumped, then Gus went all in with Plumlee a few months later and never looked back. Castellanos got tons of praise in Fall of 2022 by OC and staff. Makes him burn his redshirt for nothing, doesn't let him play at all in bowl game. Proclaims QB position up for grabs while bringing in OC, then there is not a single word about a QB competition.

Regardless of what effort Plumlee did to play two sports, it has to be demoralizing if Castellanos can put 24/7 effort into leading the football team and know that the coaching staff is more excited talking about Plumlee playing in a baseball game and come in late for Spring football game than anything Castellanos does on and off the field.

How’s TC been doing? Anyone keeping tabs?
I watch BC here and there. A decent runner. Average arm. He’s small. He ran into a ref and fell backwards. The ref didn’t budge. His hands must be small. Just holding it getting ready to throw and it falls out of hand.

Three things that standout with Castellanos, he is winning his games. 6-2 as a starter only losses to #4 FSU and #11 Louisville. Multiple 4th quarter game winning drives. Finally, he runs a lot, but he avoids contact, slides, goes out of bounds, and most importantly stays healthy.

He took over a 3-9 team last year. He is closer to being the next Milton than anyone UCF has even if Plumlee played for 2 more years.

Javon hates UCF fans as much as USF does. multiple times this season he has come at fans

I don’t think it is the best strategy of Kingdom NIL to have starters on your Football team shit on fans when trying to get their donations but what do I know 🤷🏽‍♂️ …
He tells it like it is...UCF fans don't want to hear that it's BS that they only stay for half a game or don't have the NIL $$$ that other P5 programs have. But it's the truth. Meanwhile, while Javon makes some great acrobatic catches, he's got some splainin' to do when it comes to missing easy catches that end up in turnovers and cost us games. So, he has every right to talk about the lack of participation from fans and contributors, but we have every right to talk about his miscues. The truth is both sides need to fix their problems.

He followed that up saying it wasn’t intended at UCF specifically then went at UCF fans

I just don’t think it is good optics to do when you are barely out of last place in the conference. most of our current players aren’t very likable

I noticed that in the presser, Gus said so and so (forgot his name) decided to redshirt.

Is this now a thing?...where can basically say, F-U, I'm redshirting?

Has to be awful for NC State fans ..you just beat Clemson and Miami back 2 back and your QB is like ‘I’m out of here’
Interesting that his father said he's not leaving the program. I guess with a couple of conference losses they're not going to play for an ACC Championship and so he hands the job back to the transfer they brought in and "won" the job in the preseason. We'll see how this turns out, but we certainly have a bad taste about upper class QB's redshirting.

I find myself checking out of college football more and more. I’m a season ticket holder and a donor to both academics and athletics. But one thing I refuse to do is join the “ Kingdom.”

I believe the players should have rights to profit off of their name, image, and likeness. If you hire them to make a commercial I.e. Caleb Williams, pay them. But the pay for play scandal that has been created is ridiculous and ruining the sport. My money will not go to pay for some 18 year old kid to commit here for the cash.

My own kid wants me to buy him a PS5, no way am I going to help pay for some recruits just so he comes here.

Thats the problem with the portal, you bring in locker room cancers like JB.

Feel the same way. If a QB or Walker comes in and a local dealership offers him a deal great but the Collectives feel like an Amway scam with not enough transparency.

It doesn’t help that a Tuohy runs it . Fair or not his family has a scamming reputation now.

I know people that know him and say that he is just like the reputation..... extremely scummy. Players have not been getting everything they've been promised and it's directly linked to SJ

Sounds like the Collective is paying the people that run it more than the athletes. That’s why you should just give money directly to UCF Athletics.

What you will end up seeing is players from rosters moving forward will have very little affiliation with the program after they leave unless the school has profound success or is advantageous for them to be associated with the school.

I think we would like to hear some of these things the players have not been getting that they were promised:

I agree that it’s unfair to have that reputation placed on him from this situation. I never met either of them The information has come out certainly does not indicate that they scammed anyone in this. It looks like this particular player has financial problems and is looking for a way out. He is probably a good kid (the player) that is being led down this pathway by the real scammers.

After reading some of the posts about players from “fans”…I don’t blame him.

The head of our nil Tuohy , the ucf prob and his private jet bros attacking fans that are skeptical and even blocking a few long time season ticket holders . Everyone associated with UCF right now don’t understand optics . Looking like out of touch nft douchebags

Some UCF fans on Twitter are expressing concerns about the NIL collective and a couple of UCF “influencers” are trying to silence them. Crazy.

Our fans have a toxicity about them, it’s crazy. I guess that happens with a large social media fan following.

this is why you need to scour the FCS ranks for the likes of jason johson and your jared verses because the FBS guys are going to expensive and overrated. no point in gus and crew crying about how our collective can't compete or whatever. and at these rates we need to worry about keeping the likes of john walker.

I thought this was going to happen and why I was against this whole idea from the start. It is ruining amateur sports.

Agree. They aren’t amateurs now. Funny how NFL teams don’t need collectives but colleges do. NFL plays 4 more games but their coaches make way more. Athletic Departments can afford to give the football players more money. I’m not giving money to collectives so we can buy better players. That’s not fun to me. I don’t feel better about myself because I gave money to win.

College football stopped being amateur sports when program fans brag about multi million dollar TV contacts, spending millions on facilities, how much they pay their coaches, and 7+ figure donations.

This isn’t sustainable unless schools start taking millions off their tv deals to fund most of it which is probably illegal

this man gets it. paying $200k for some DT isn't what killed college football. schools like ATM paying a coach $70m to leave and then will turn around and give the next guy $100m or more is what killed the amateur angle in college sports. it's a joke. everything is fine as long as it's about the love of the game for the players while being about the love of the money for everyone else involved.

As long as programs and coaches can keep telling their alumni and fans they are not winning because they don't invest enough in the program and have media/fans agree. See UCF basketball.
