The game is won in the trenches, and he’s 335lbs of muscle we will have working for UCF. Each season is a new campaign, the days of having the same players play on the same team for 4+ years are over in the new age of NIL.
I know NIL has screwed up the sport, and you may be right about this player, but I don't believe we will become champions if most of our roster is made up with too many transfers with one year of eligibility left.

from the Daylan Dotson article https://ucf.rivals.com/news/ut-martin-de-daylan-dotson-recaps-ucf-visit-decision-coming-soon

"I'm going strictly to develop. I want to improve my draft grade from like a 6th or 7th round to a Day 1 or 2 guy, top 3-4 rounds."

that's what I'm talking about, FCS guys that are already on the NFL's radar and need those games against tougher competition to stand out even more.

way better strategy than targeting overrated power 5 players that weren't good enough.

Does Trujillo leave now?
Have no idea….

I guess some of you have seen Colson play, I looked on 247 at his profile and nothing stood out. Stands 5’ 11”, rated as a 3 star prospect (0.88 composite) only 3 P5 offers ( besides ours and Cincy).

Using the same reference, Trujillo is 6’ 3”, weighs 25 lbs more, also a 3 star with a 0.87 composite, has 10 P5 offers besides ours.

We will see how everything shakes out

I don’t watch any high school games anymore. I don’t get excited about players until I see them play on our field. Just going off of the oohing and ahhing I’m seeing all over, people don’t care about Riley much for us. I’d leave if I were him. I’d assume our coaches urged EJ to reclassify. Feeling like plan B isn’t great.

It’s because he is our highest rated qb (outside of Daunte when they didn’t rate). He’s also played against some of the best schools in the country and has looked really good.

Below is some highlights from the 3A Ga State Title game. If you watched the ESPN game against nationally ranked Colquitt Cty earlier in the year, against a team with everyone going to P4 teams, he put on a show against them. There’s a reason Gus and Hinshaw went to his game and discussing reclassifying. It’s ok to be excited about a recruit guys.

And for the record, I love Riley. Big and super athletic. Strong arm. Would be happy with either one of the at qb1
Maybe either would be fine……neither of these guys would be our highest ranked QB since Culpepper, Jeff Godfrey was a 4 star on most sites….broke all the Miami HS passing records, and back before recruiting services, Stephen Moffett was very highly sought after.

I was just disappointed that we are recruiting a short thin QB again. We need that size that a Culpepper or Bortles has to run this offense with less injury risks. Even guys like Mike Greco or DJ Mack would flourish in this kind of offense. Mack was ill suited for Heupel’s offfense, Greco was a force of nature when he ran the ball…..also ended up with a Super Bowl ring.

Interesting, but with him reaffirming his commitment, this tells me that guys are taking these extra visits to already plan in advance for their possible 2nd school if they need to transfer at some point

This board is extremely pessimistic about this recruiting class, which feels strange, given that according to 24/7, it's the best the school has ever had and is 3rd in the new Big-12, 31st overall.
I agree. It is strange. I for one am highly optimistic about how this class can add impact on the field. Not to mention that I believe we will see several additional impact or depth players coming through the transfer portal. Maybe some have already agreed and have not yet been announced. Gus is sometimes strategic in that way.

We have 18 4-year guys signed to come in 2024, versus two one year guys. So I think we are keeping the amount of one year guys down to a reasonable level on our roster.

What does it mean if he reclassifies?
As far as I know it means he has the credits to graduate by the end of this year May (he was scholar athlete of the year for the state I think I saw) and he can reclassify to the 2024 class. Seems like QBs are the only ones who do this, I don’t know why they would want to do it though. Quinn Ewers did it to be able to cash in on a $1mil NIL with Ohio State then transferred the next year. 🤷🏻‍♂️ new age of college football I suppose.

The incumbent quarterback is departing. The position is open for competition. I don't know where he can go and have a better opportunity than that.
Hopefully he stays! He’s a great talent and has the size we need. He’s a winner and should give all comers a hell of a competition!!!
