Russian invasion into Ukraine is imminent

The biggest thing we can do to Putin is drill the sh!t out of the United States. Restart pipeline work and get oil to $60 per barrel

The Ruble has completely stabilized and nothing is changing. He is actually more popular now in Russia than before. 🤔
No way to know his popularity, but yes the Ruble is back to normal and about to get stronger.

Again: Ukraine will end up being aligned with Russia before this is all said and done.

Yes, it is mine protected. No, it is not any of the US designs selected by the USMC or US Army under the MRAP program.
But Oshkosh did partner with them for its MRAP offer to the US, hence why it looked familiar to me. I just looked it up, it didn't win.

Like a number of Commonwealth APC, wheeled and even tracked (in the case of the Royal Marines), it's of an Irish design. The Timoney MP (Mine Protected) series that have been around since the '70s.

Just like many former French territories go with the wheeled Véhicule de l'avant blindé (VAB) series from Renault, one of the first, modern, wheeled APCs, so from '70'ish.

There is also another from Europe, which many have now adopted (as well as the Canadians, and even the USMC via the Canadians), but I'm not going to go into that one.

Because even before the VAB, in the US, Cadillac Gauge Command series was way ahead of everyone with the V-hull series (hence, V-100, etc...). They even offered heavy weapons, from 20mm to low-velocity canons up to 90mm. They designed it with their own money, and it was pretty cheap.

Unfortunately, other than the military police (MP) in Vietnam, it was overlooked.

In fact, the V-150 and other models -- which were largely private R&D -- got a bad name because it was often sold and used incorrectly as a light armored vehicle against IFVs and even Tanks. Insert the disaster during Desert Storm when the Saudis tried to use their 150s with 90mm low-velocity guns against the Iraqis when they counter-assulted into Saudi territory.

The Saudis, among others, have smartly changed their Vs to the infantry support role, with 40mm grenade launchers. Much more effective in the support role.

In any case ...

All the 'lessons learned' in Vietnam, from IEDs to Spalling, were lost until the 21st century. The US military didn't buy the upgraded V-series, and basically ignored it, until the IED issues. Then they were buying M1117s well before MRAPs. But then ... well ... lobbyists and 'changing requirements' took over. That '60s design was pretty dang good, for 1/100th the R&D costs of the MRAP program.

I won't even go into that waste.

I.e., Cadillac Gauge Commando series (V-100 thru M1117) is basically the Nortrop N-156 (F-5 thru F-20) all over again. Serious private R&D money spent, a great design -- when used proper -- and then destroyed by lobbyists pushing taxpayer funded R&D and products.

E.g., of course the USMC, which had bought the M1117, didn't want it any more when superior MRAPs, that had cost a lot more to develop (with taxpayer money) showed up. Ultimately the M1117 was still a '60s design, although that's quite a testament to its design. It was also available.

And in all cases of APCs ...

All of them have various upgrade packages for armor that make the Humvee look like a toy. Of course, the Humvee is a lot lighter, although that gets more questionable in the upgraded M1114. And now ... we're moving to something else. Sigh ...

At some point, Congress would have been much better off, fiscally and protection-wise, buying the V-series in the 20th century, instead of going with the Humvee, back in the '80s.

The cost of up-armoring and other M1114 improvements could have been much better addressed by just buying light V-series and armor upgrade packages that could have shipped separately. One can still fit two (2) V-series cars into a C-130 last time I checked.

Between the advances in unmanned technologies and networking/comms capabilities, it's very likely that everything is going to change in the next 20 years. Long range, procuring a new manned capability across the services is probably not the best investment.

I have a lot of anxiety about this christmas. After 2 suicidal episodes this year I am really uncomfortable with the idea of being around the in-laws. This year has also brought about changes with my girls. I got divorced 8 years ago and had full custody of my kids until this year. They moved in with their mom in january and things have been pretty difficult between us since then. Nobody, including my wife, has been terribly supportive of what I've been dealing with this year and I've been putting on a happy face whenever I'm asked how things are going because when I'm honest it makes things worse. I'm just tired of it and now its going to be in my face for the next few days. Nobody understands but everybody has a solution.

Sorry to vent. Merry christmas to everyone"

Actually making money from the war. We could drill the crap out of the US to end the war...nah too difficult
American and European regional security is of no interest when it is at odds with the blind faithful of the Church of Popular Science and Environmentalism. I mean, after all ... we're going to be at 49mpg in 3 more years, and we're going to be 80% green by 2030. We legislated it so it must be true! That and the reality that our electric engines are designed by John Gault and there's no ecological issues with Lithium batteries.
