Scott Frost is new coach

The knocks on his ties to Florida are absolutely ridiculous. Do some research folks, Oregon has been coming into Florida for years and recruiting kids right out of our back yard. Guess who was helping them do that?

Scott Frost, let me introduce you to Jeff Godfrey, one of the icons of So FL HS football.....let Jeff perform his recruiting magic for you....

Bingo! I think any short term success he has he bolts to a bigger P5 program. But I frankly don't think he'll be successful. Those Oregon offenses had great numbers but 0 National Championships. He's going to hire a DC he knows, which will more than likely come from there west coast, where they don't play any defense. So expect a ton of track meets.

I just think we wanted to go so "anti-O'Leary" (sound disciplined team, that ran the football to control clock, and play sound defense. Yes this can be boring) that we probably missed on this. Guys has no HC experience, and is just using us. Gone in 2 years, whether we fire him or he bolts for a better job. Book it!
LOL-- How could Frost not be successful, you were 0 (that's zero) W's, 12 L's !

Great Hire! He's been at Oregon for 9 years, so he has school loyalty. I'm not worried about him going to Nebraska.

and can someone make a "STAY FROSTY UCF" pic/meme in photo shop? It would be great.

After reflection and research,,,, Frost is a cool choice. Cool in Fla is always popular.

Oregon recruits from Florida:

2016: 0 so far
2015: 0
2014: 2
2013: 0
2012: 0

Your point is unsubstantiated.

If you are not Ohio State, Alabama, or Texas, and especially if you are a G5, you are a stepping stone. Deal with it. Doesn't matter who you bring in unless they are 60+ years old and looking to retire in the sunshine state.
We just don't need him changing everything and then leaving in 2 years.

I know right! I can see it next year. "Scott Frost single-handily turns UCF's offense from 128th in the nation to 50th in the nation." He'll probably win coach of the year.

They currently have 0 commits from Florida and last year they had none, as well. In 2014, they had 2 recruits from FL. Then before that their last FL recruit came in 2011 when they had 1 recruit.

So in conclusion they've had 3 recruits from Florida in the last 6 recruiting cycles (counting this one). So people are correct questioning his recruiting ties to FL, that being said he should be able to do fine based on how recognizable Oregon's offense it. Tristan Payton and the offense seems pumped about this hire; that should pay dividends for us despite his recruiting presence in FL.

I could care less about Florida ties. Being HC at UCF is more than enough ties to FL.

I wanted someone with HC experience. But I'm excited what he brings:
  • Amazing offensive background
  • NCs as a player and as a coach
  • Some defensive coaching
  • Young who seems to innovative

Hiring a football HC is the most important thing an AD can do. Danny is young with a long career infront of him. He could've went with a safe bet like a Gene Chizik. But he went all in on a young coach. Worst case is they are both gone in 2 years. However, I like most real fans, desperately have been wanting UCF to take chances that will put UCF over the top. That is exactly what we have done with our last 2 hires. For that, I'm super excited and proud that UCF is going in that direction. Go Knights! And Charge On!

I think it's Interesting that he has experience as a Defensive Coordinator and an Offensive Coordinator. He was an excellent college QB and played in the NFL as a DB.

From an Oregon fan (most are saying Scott is a great recruiter)

Good luck to him.

As for my opinions...

Solid recruiter.

Solid preparer and game planner.

I seriously question his ability to coach in game and adjust in game. I did not like his play calling. For instance when going up against 8 and 9 man fronts he would consistently try to ram the ball down the defenses throat instead of taking advantage of the numbers on the outside. Then do vice versa.

The tempo also dropped off dramatically the last couple of years. I give it a bit of a pass this year as Adams leaned the offense but when you have Mariota in the third year in this offense you should be snapping the ball about every 12 seconds.

Overall though...he is a good coach. I am happy for him and wish him the best. He was no Chip Kelly but was most certainly not the absolute train wreck that Gary Crowton was.

I see Frost as being a lot like Tom Herman who is now doing a superb job at Houston. OC at Ohio State, now you get OC from Oregon. What's not to like ! Give it a chance. I think the important hire that Frost needs to make is DC -- Defense wins championships, signed Bo/Woody !

The upside to a score 60 allow 50 on defense style of team is that it will get butts in the seats and keep them there. Sans Bortles' big year, if UCF ever got down by 14 or more, it seemed bleak. When you have an offense that can score quickly, you're rarely out of a game.

I've never been so anxious about a DC hire at UCF. Anyone knows who he'll bring in?

I can't recall a single poster even mentioning Frost as HC and that is a relatively tiny pool of candidates (had to be a coordinator or current G4 HC). This could be an FCS HC, P5 position coach, G4 DC, hell even a well respected HS HC. As long as it's not Bres, I'll be excited.

That said, here's my wild guess:

This is a good hire. Gives us some potential footing in the west coast, and really this guy has been part of a staff that has recruited all over the U.S.

This is the first positive post from you since i've been on this board lol.

Yes he is a good recruiter. I hope he does not raid our other good coaches, but rather finds his own assistants elsewhere.

Please take our D coach. Please.

Biggest difference between Frost and Herman is that the first 10 years of Herman's coaching career was in Texas, met his wife in Texas...he has ties to the area. Ties are important not just for recruiting, but for getting someone to stay.
I really hope I'm wrong...but I see him completely changing our schemes, having some measure of success, and gone in 4 years or less.
