This is quickly spiraling out of control, and unlike Vietnam, the Russians aren't going to let their soldiers die without a response.
It's a total clusterf*ck. Nothing else can really be said. The US just had to blow away a bunch of Russian contractors, advancing on their position outside the command of the Russian military, and now there's a big uproar about it. At very least it may serve as a good reminder that it's a bad idea to attack a position with US forces present.
We've got our "ally" in Turkey fighting our Kurdish allies. We've got Iran basically setting up a satellite military base in western Syria on Israel's border. Meanwhile there are still terrorists running around everywhere and the regime is bombing civilians with chemical weapons yet again.
It's a lovely place.
We'll see what happens with Israel.
I fully expect them to be under constant rocket attack 50x as much as currently in the coming days. We'll see how well Israel's new anti-rocket defense stand up.
I then see Israel bombing any suspect rocket logistics all over the Middle East. So we'll also see how good Elbit et al. aircraft detection and counter-measures have become, especially since the US has fallen behind both the Israelis, even French, these days.
And at that point, we'll see if the Arabs support Iran and Syria, or Saudia Arabia finally aligns itself in an anti-Persian block. If it does, it will get very interesting, especially since the Iranians will attempt to paint that as pro-Israel, and Syria will try to take advantage of it.
