So....if we had a great offensive line, would that solve most of our problems??

Wouldn't make MM taller. Wouldn't solve MM's 3/4 side arm throw...which basically makes him effectively shorter when it comes to release point of the ball. Wouldn't make MM's hands bigger so he could grip the ball and throw a spiral downfield with some ass behind it. Wouldn't improve MM's accuracy, which is the worst I've ever seen in a D-1 QB...every receiver on our team is at risk for broken ribs every time MM throws to them.

So, no...I don't think a great offensive line would solve most of our problems.

A great offensive line would solve any team's problems. Maybe not the kind of problems of keeping the other team from scoring points. But Offensive side problems, yes.

If it helps the run game, it helps the passing side by definition. Fewer and shorter third downs (i.e., fewer "passing downs"). Which further helps the rushing game.

And even if a better OL is only good at pass blocking, it give Milton time to throw, to go through his progressions, not have to always be running for his life by rolling out and thus limiting his receiver options to that side of the field. But you already know that.

All Milton's done so far is go from mucho fumbles, interceptions, and sacks each game virtually none. The pitch fumble on the option was as much the fault of the back's option (Hamilton?) being out of position or not looking for the ball.

So if we had the perfect O-line, handing the ball off wouldn't work?

Would work for a quarter I guess....till the other team got smart and stacked the box. Giving MM all the time in the world to pass, given a perfect O'Line, would result in multiple interceptions with his floating, inaccurate, wobbly passes...as well as 3 -4 receivers out of the game as they jump up to try to catch them and take a shot to the ribs.

a lot of them yes.

Take the Temple game for example, a couple first downs on the ground and that game is iced & never put back into Walker's hands for a come back vs a tired defense. UCF doesn't have a line where we can say 'you know what's coming and you can't stop it'. Just about all of our offensive success is on misdirection.

yeah his accuracy has to improve alot. Agree. :)

Just remember the play of Tulsa' offensive line in this past game. What a difference between their play and ours. Our QB play needs to improve, whoever winds up being the starter next season but without a much improved line it doesn't matter what talent we have. That's what this season is proving as #1 and #9 are unable to get big games like Tulsa' two backs did last game.
