Timmy's nickname is Q.

I watched every offensive snap of QB1 Q's entire second start on the road at BYU and every snap of his seventh start against Houston in Tampa. Both opponents were ranked at the time. He obviously showed great improvement between starts 2 and 7 and was more comfortable at home.

Q was well coached during his time at South Florida. He was an understudy of Charlie Weiss Jr., currently the OC for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. He also worked closely with Bobby Bentley, who was in the offensive huddle nearly every drive before Q took the field. It was probably a good move for Gus to sign Bentley as an off-the-field assistant.

During his first road start, Q played well in a loud, hostile environment at Provo. He dug South Florida out of a 21-0 deceit in the first half and pulled the team within 35-27 before a poorly executed onside kick squandered the comeback. Q finished 17-of-24 for 186 yards. Against Houston, he was 22-of-46 for 289 yards, three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), and two interceptions. Both interceptions cane on fourth downs, including one in desperation on 4th-and-20 with Q visibly injured and his team trailing by two scores with less than 1:15 remaining. The other pick came in the red zone on 4th-and-3 with Q trying to force a ball into tight coverage against NFL's Marcus Davis, who picked it and returned it 100 yards.

He doesn't make *many* unforced errors (i.e., he makes good decisions in the passing game; not so much in the QB run game).

He excels in hurry up no huddle situations where he doesn't have to think.

He goes through his first two reads before he takes off.

He plays extremely well outside of the pocket.

He has a good pocket presence and will stand in the pocket and deliver the football very well when the pocket is clean and adequately when it is messy.

He is more accurate than JRP, less accurate than Mikey Keene.

He does possess a strong arm and throws a nice deep ball.

He is a larger player who is capable of running through/breaking tackles. He seldom ever takes sacks due to his strong arm (which is capable of throwing the ball away while in the grasp) and his legs (think Thomas Castellanos).

He possesses above average quickness and enough speed to be elusive, but nowhere near JRP wheels.

He actually has touch and throws catchable balls.

Cons...

He isn't remotely as fast as he thinks he is and he misidentifies the read man too often (ghosts of Joey Gatewood).

He doesn't monitor the play clock as well as he should. He forces too many timeouts and delays of game calls.

He is herky jerky with his body and throwing motion at times, especially in times of "oh sh*t" moments. Against BYU, for example, Q had made the decision to run on a third anf goal. He saw a teammate flash open on the end zone, and he cumbersomely stopped and threw a ill-advised, dangerous pass over the middle of the field into the back of the end zone. Against Houston, he was falling out of bounds and threw a rope to the back of the end zone for a diving touchdown that would have been an ESPN Top 10 play had Auburn's Brian Battie not returned two 100 yard kickoff returns in the sane half.

Q mistakes himself for Brett Farve and will occasionally tries to force a ball into tight coverage where he shouldn't (i.e., he thinks he can throw a football 100 yards under water).

He sometimes puts balls where no one--not even his receivers when he wants them to--can catch them.

He isn't as accurate when he is running for life, or running to his right, or when pressured directly in his face.

He needs to do a better job of carrying out his fakes on run plays when he doesn't have the ball.

He is a lot like JRP in that the offense flows through him as opposed to being like Mikey Keene who lets the offense flow through others.

All and all, I think y'all will be very pleased. I was surprised at how well Q played. He can be a P5 starter *if* he stops trying to throw footballs through coffee straws, cuts out the "oh sh*t" moments, and plays within the system.

He reminds of a poor man's Dameyune Craig.
