you don't get to play guns with cops, they're better at it.

Why don't you post the video of the child with no gun in their hand and their hand up getting executed by the officer?
B-B-But, @OLearyLastCall, the kid HAD A GUN at one point so the officer was justified in blowing him away even after he'd thrown it away.

You know, it's funny how our resident Second Amendment crowd are all about THE RIGHT TO GUNS --- um, as long as you look like them.

I wish some people on here had to go through the training where police are surprised with an armed suspect and an unarmed suspect. They had to make the decision in a fraction a second based on this time stamp as this youth who they keep was armed and ignoring their commands while fleeing decides to turn towards them and moves his right arm through a firing position whether this kid dropped the gun or not. Make the wrong decision or hesitate and you or your partner is dead, the victim of a murder by a 13 year old gang banging and no one will care. Shoot and you and your families lives are destroyed regardless. If the kid just happened to drop the gun for some reason, there will be riots and you’ll end up trying to defend against a murder charge.

And no matter what, it’s all your fault because you’re a police officer and presumed guilty while all of the criminals that you have to deal with are Saints.

Take my guns as you and your ilk run all the police out of the job, hell no.

Oh, and this occurred in Chicago where guns are illegal. So tell me again how making guns illegal keeps them out of the hands of even 13 year-old criminals.

I might be a bit more sympathetic if you weren't so gung-ho about everybody and their Uncle possessing guns.

What the hell do you expect for crying out loud??!?

There's more than three guns for every man, woman, and child in this country.

Sure! Which part were you interested in? the part where he's running with the gun or the part where he is holding it when the police officer says "show me your hands"?

And most of those are multiply held by very law abiding citizens. So tell me what law will keep this 13 year old from possessing a gun.

i think your car should be taken away so tragedies like this don't happen anymore

I’ve been super critical of Mayor Lightfoot but I have to hand it to her for initially approaching this with an even hand.

"It was excruciating," an emotional Mayor Lightfoot said when asked for her reaction to viewing the body camera footage. "This is not something you want children to see."

"You're going to see that officer spring into action to try to revive Adam, to call for medical assistance... I've had experience of investigating a number of police involved shootings in my earlier career. I know that most officers go through their whole career and they never fire their weapon in the line of duty. I also know that every time that it's happened, it's extraordinarily traumatizing for them."

"People will have a range of emotions when they see these videos," Lightfoot noted before adding "I hope that people express themselves peacefully."

Wait. 3 guns for every man, woman, and child in this country? There is no way that's accurate.

Did you watch the video? It didn’t seem that the kid threw the gun away. It looked like he was drawing it. Either way it happened way to fast to tell. That officer had to make a split second decision to save his own life. It especially sucks when someone that young is involved in stuff like this. The cops reaction after he shot shows that he didn’t want that outcome.

This is a tragedy by all accounts. While I believe there is a systemic issue with how police approach certain people vs others and it needs to be brought to attention and corrected. For some of you to say that bias is not real is just partisan team rah rah... I struggle with this one. Don't run in the streets with guns, it will lead to no good.

This is not the same, IMHO of a cop pulling over a black soldier on a traffic stop then pepper spraying etc... This is not the same as George Floyd which appears to be a crime...

The kid had a gun, I can't image light angles and visual vs camera deltas.... Unless I'm missing something, this has the potential to be overplayed and hurt the credibility of the bigger issue of targeted bias ....

My guess is this cop is going to struggle with this action regardless of an investigation. I can't image shooting a 13 year old kid....

Running from cops + gun + not following directions + adrenaline = you could get your ass shot

Well unfortunately the cop killed him AFTER he STOPPED running and DROPPED the gun and had his HANDS UP. Maybe he should have been as docile as these cops that got assaulted by a white man with a hammer in the video below 🤷🏿🤷🏿🤷🏿. Now he is on trial for murder.

I think you need to go back and read what I said. Let me be clear: I am not rah rahing this kid's death. It is absolutely tragic and terrible.

There are potential consequences for running through the streets with a gun, however. This is one of them. You really couldn't pay me enough to chase after little wannabe thugs and then make a split-second decision while I'm doped up on adrenaline. It's extremely easy to sit back and say that the police should be calm and they get paid to do this, etc., etc., etc., when you or I would probably shit our pants if we were ever in a situation remotely close to this.

And I say this as someone who has had a gun in my hand since I was 5-years old. I have done just about every shooting course you could imagine. No thanks on the cop thing...

The kid had both hands in the air and was shot immediately. This cop is done. They made it seem as the kid had the gun in his hand. He was CLEARLY unarmedwhen he got shot. This cop is done.
If the kid never had a gun and they planted it, ring em all up for murder. The evidence we have doesn’t appear to support that but if your theory is true they deserve the fullest extent of the law.

Are you disputing that the kid did not have his hands up unarmed when the officer executed him?

First off, cops are people and you can't judge any one officer on the actions of another in a different force with different experience. That's like saying all black people are the same and it's perfectly fine that you be judged because of the actions of some gang banger on Chicago's South Side.

Secondly, you can't just look at the instant the officer fires and pass judgement. The totality of the circumstances matters. They were responding to shots fired in the middle of the night in a strong Latin Kings area where they are accustomed to violence. Four officers had been shot in the two weeks preceding this incident, 1 of them while responding to a shots fired call. They come upon 2 individuals, a 21 year-old-man and this 13-year-old, at 2:35 in the morning and they refuse to comply with lawful orders. They run and the officers see the gun in the kids hand. The kid is still disobeying orders in a dark alley in known gang territory where there is regular violence. The kid abruptly stops and turns to face the officer bringing the had that police saw the gun in just a second ago into a firing position.

What would you have the officers do? What would you honestly do at that moment?

I think it is also informative that a Chicago Alderman has come out on the side of the police and due process. https://www.fox32chicago.com/video/922451

Come ON, OLearyLastCall, you should know by now that there's ALWAYS "more to the story" than actual video footage of the incident showing all of us exactly what happened.

This disclaimer is about a cop who kills a 13 year old Black kid. Weird that sk8 didn't feel the same level of compassion for the Capitol cop who -- given "the totality of the circumstances" -- fired a shot to defend his country from an insurgent mob. Hmmm, I wonder why that is?

Im just saying.....I see PLENTY of videos of white people "not complying" and actually living to tell the story another day. I guess the "comply or die" theory only applies to minorities.

And there are PLENTY of videos of black people doing the same. Somehow no one bothers to post those to YouTube though and the media doesn't pick those up.

Yep, but for some reason, Blacks are three times more likely to be killed. In the video posted below, my gut tells me that if this cop car had been hijacked by a Black man, we'd have seen a hailstorm of bullets directed at the car when she pulled out.

We

Well in the end, another cop who shot an unarmed kid shall go to jail.
If you were that cop in the totality of circumstances, tell me honestly what you would've done. And don't change the evidence to suit your bias. The kid had a gun while they were chasing him and you didn't see him put the gun down. What would you do?

That was really cool....wonder what she was arrested for or running for?

Want to bet he isn’t charged?
It's Chicago. They've got all the reforms in place. They have a civilian review board that recommends charges. If the community is stirred up sufficiently, they will be charged. It no longer has anything to do with facts and evidence. It has to do with righting past and perceived wrongs. My question is, what happens when you run out of sacrifices?

Post your source for this assertion.

The narrative being pushed by media on this shows how done this country is.

They would rather ignore how fast this cop had to make the judgment on whether or not this kid still had the gun he had JUST seen him with, and whether or not he was turning to shoot him. He had less than a second to react, and his life is on the line if he chooses to give this kid the chance to shoot first.

That’s what pisses me off about so many of you. You expect cops to give a gang banger the chance to shoot first.

But you want to keep telling these kids that cops are racist and out to get them, not that they’re making choices that can get them killed when they’re out on the streets with a gun at 2:30 AM, or when they decide they don’t want to get arrested and fight their way back into their car.

No.
We expect cops to use their guns as the ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT. There is no excuse for shooting an unarmed person. None.
