The problem is that Progressives then try to say they trust the government more than gun owners. The statistics really don't work in that favor ... not at all! Especially considering how much the US federal government has been involved with organized crime since ... well ... some the framers of the US were!
The truth is that the law abiding woman getting an abortion and the law abiding citizen owning a gun doesn't destroy freedom or cause more crime. And that's what this is really about ... civil rights that not only don't cause civil conflict, but actually cause less in the end.
When Progressives understand their hypocrisy on guns, they can re-join Liberals and Libertarians who do understand it's about Freedom. And then we can start pushing back against the Conservatives and their hypocrisy.

I disagree with there being a total absence of knowledge and skill to rival planned parenthood. There are a number of women’s referral and counseling services that perform the same function as PP without recommending abortion and without the same level of federal funding. They’ve also never been caught on tape advocate the harvest and sale of aborted fetus parts. They also don’t have a founder who argued for eugenics. PP is a dirty organization but is also very politically astute. Which is why abortion rights became women’s health because conflation is an attempt to kill the debate and make PP more palatable.

First off, eugenics in the '20s was not the same as the '30s and '40s Nazi Eugenics. It was very commonly accepted in medical science at the time that families with some diseases should consider not breeding, and consider sterilization, to prevent passing on select genes. This was before anti-biotics and other, modern medicine.
Secondly, we are now, today, back to talking about the same, "eugenic" principals, regarding bacteria and superbugs, but we don't call it "eugenics." We're now calling it many other things (which is a whole post on its own).

Back in the '20s, you had impregnation rates among the poor and sick, and all Sanger did was advocate people have the option to choose sterilization. She never combined eugenics with sterilization -- much less forced -- but that has not stopped people from combining the two and labeling her everything from a racist to a Nazi.
Planned Parenthood has been the authority on female health for over a century when no other options existed and female health was largely ignored by the medical community, and women had 0 rights!
