Transfer Portal is now open

Need 3 more transfers, 1DT, 1 DB, and 1 LB.

Either guys who are a high 4* caliber that will play on day 1, or a guy who is a 3*-4* and is willing to be a guy off the bench.

Has anyone from the portal committed?

If so, who?

Thanks.

The only experienced backup is a QB that left his previous team in August when he didn't win a QB battle.

well UCF is promoting JRP flying on private jets to be average in 2 sports …they don’t feel it is a fair competition. And I heard JRP was turning the ball over a lot in Spring camp

Yeah, but for me - even with JRP perceived to having the job - it’s a bit concerning that TC didn’t want to stick around and compete next year (against McClain, Rizk, etc.). Two years plus into the program (by this time next year), I would have really liked his chances to win that battle over all others.

That would have left him with two seasons in the B12 to run the show. That’s still (probably) a better opportunity than what he’ll be looking at. He’s going to have to compete & win a job wherever he goes, it’s not like he’s going to transfer to a new program and just be handed anything. I feel the likelihood he ends up in a better situation through this deal is kind of low.

But I really hope I’m wrong, I’d love to see him excel at the next stop. Best of luck TC!

Lol. Then can your birdie explain why McClain only played two drives in the Spring Game, with the second one coming with a minute left in the game (with the walk-on/3rd/4th-string guys getting reps)?
Hypothetical:

TC was 2nd string going into Spring as the default from the previous season. TC thought he was the future of this program. He loved this place and even was okay burning his red shirt to try and help the team. As Spring practices began unfolding, it became clear to coaches that TM was clearly the better passer. Gus and the coaches kept these thoughts private because how could they say these things mid Spring season to the guy who gave everything, including his redshirt for no reason.

After the last practice Tuesday, the projected depth chart is ready to come out. Gus realizes he has to have a really hard conversation with TC. TC thinks about it all day Wednesday and Thursday decides to transfer.

This is all hypothetical, but would explain the timeline of things.

The most logical explanation is TC was asked to change positions and refused. The transfer is a bad look on Hinshaw, though.

Forget the hypotheticals, just look at what actually happened in front of us on the field. If McClain “clearly became the better passer” in your example, then why would TC play roughly half of the Spring Game, while McClain played two drives in mop-up duty (I believe he attempted less than five passes).

Castellanos just had a change of heart and left, he wants to find somewhere to play this year. I hope he doesn’t regret it.

Because TC was honored the 2nd string as default from the previous season. 2nd string last year, 2nd string this spring.

Coaches let spring play out completely before making any changes. Spring practice ends Tuesday. After which, he's told to look elsewhere along with KT and EM.

JRP and GUS have a thing. Even if JC was on the team, JRP was getting the call. They are PERSONAL friends who’ve played pool at GUS’s house.

Castellanos was legitimately mismanaged last season and had his redshirt burned with no value to him or the team.

He could have had 1 foot out the door and something finally just sent him packing.

it is difficult to be all in on Gus when it seems like he doesn’t know how to manage the QB room ..

We’ll see who we get in the portal
This completely opens the door for a high end QB transfer to come in next year.

Not really. A lot if factors always in play. The important thing is to just bring in as many quality QBs as possible, and let his sort them out.

He literally said, "I'm the future of this place" after the spring game presser. Something must have happened...
I cringed the moment he said that. Sentences which focus on "I" instead of the team, or which predict the future instead of staying present, can lead to quicksand for an athlete, especially for QBs, who are expected to show leadership and especially manage their conduct and words.

How does anyone know what the future holds and even if the statement were true, why is your future status on the depth chart a more important focus than the strength of the team currently. Even if he is not, that statement had him sounding like a self-centered prima dona and did nothing to achieve a sense of team first in the locker room.

Having too many quality QBs is what leads to moments like this. I'm not a fan of as many as possible. We don't need 5 or 6 qbs taking up practice reps. How about one or two quality guys added to the mix so that they get ample reps with the 1's to show what they can do and gel with the offense.

Having zero quality QBs you mean. JRP is not a viable P5 QB and neither is TC. TM is not very good either…probably better at WR. TC will be a RB if he wants to play.

Teams that have too many quality qbs also have moments like this. It's all about balance, especially in this portal era. No team should seek to have as many quality qbs as possible. That's a recipe for needless controversy, wasted recruiting energy and high turnover.

Don’t transfer to usf…the talk on their board is they are stacked at that position.

If JRP doesn’t win 10 games next season, Gus could go down as a huge disappointment. He’s run off DG, Keene and TC. No great signings at QB in 3 cycles.
Kind of unfair to say “If JRP doesn’t win 10 games next season” when stepping up to a P5 league with much better competition or that Gus has “run off DG, Keene” as he didn’t even recruit either of them in this NIL/Transfer Portal era. They clearly didn’t fit his style of QB, DG being a total fake self centered “me guy” wanting to throw it deep every play and Keene being a great guy and teammate but ultimately NGE. TC I felt was a great signing, I really liked him in Gus’ scheme and thought next year (the future) he would be the guy for 2 years. I have no idea where he thinks he’s going to go to win a job, at a P5 school nonetheless and start next year. I feel like this is either a bad decision by him/people around him or he got beat out by TMC and was going to be QB3
