Interior defense is still a HUGE issue. Thiam got pushed around quite a bit, and the kid has to find a way to stop fouling so much. Just a reclassified freshmen playing on the road for the first time, so I get it. But something to monitor.
We were outscored 52-28 in the paint! And we gave up 17 offensive rebounds to Tech.
UCF’s three-point shooting was pretty much the only advantage they enjoyed in the game, but it was a pretty significant advantage.

We're not going to shoot like this every game...we need the Bigs to contribute more on both ends.
Thiam is going to be really good. a big that can block shots (on pace to break Tackos season record) and shoot 3s.
That’s ridiculous.
Just because the three-point shot is being attempted at high clips at all levels, that doesn’t mean the “interior means very little”. It’s the exact opposite.
It’s the mid-range and long two-point attempts that have disappeared. You still have to rebound and you have to defend the rim. Just because the back-to-the basket center isn’t backing-down defenders anymore, doesn’t mean you don’t need interior defensive presence. One of the wildest takes I’ve ever heard.
The big 12 has always had good big men, but it was driven offensively through the guards.
It means little to the outcomes of games. There are teams that play small ball all game and win. The NBA is all 3s and iso. Why would you want to be a guy that’s tall but can’t shoot 3s? You won’t do well at next level. That’s why Thiam is shooting 3s. He made 2 yesterday. We’ve been out rebounded and won games. Because 3s are falling.
