UCF vs UConn

It's only a 17 point lead, but since we only scored about that many points in the 2nd half last week, this game might be over.

Can't score 25 in a half anymore so let's hope we can keep the lead under that.

UCONN looking pretty good. Schooling UCF on how to play basketball. UCF shooting is cold. 35-18 at the half.

The classic story of a name brand team getting in the heads of a lesser. Put Tulane on the jersey instead of Uconn and this is a much closer game. Hesitance and respect kills.

He's getting double teamed w height and beat up like against the center for east Carolina...he struggles against anyone even close to his height.

Refs just do not call any hacking calls on Tacko. They are hammering him when he is in the paint with the ball. no calls. Just call traveling on him instead. The refs must have read the scouting reports. "Double team Tacko and hack the shit out of him. The refs will call traveling or ignore the hacks."

The story of UCF Sports unfortunately.
Also another example of UCF as the team that has to face a storied program fighting to save its season.

Bad game for us. UConn had their best game of the season. We have to turn this around.

Short turnaround with Houston at home on Tuesday knight.

I've counted 4 times Tacko had to lean over to pick up his goggles off the floor. no calls on any of them. Googles that high in the air don't fall off by themselves!
Two of those were bows to the face....no call. Whole team just sucked. You can't go on the road and have no energy to start the game. They stunk it up by looking out-of-sync offensively (which give credit to UConn). They stunk it up from the charity stripe. They chucked up several "worthless" three's that were just selfish shots.

  • As I said, the Huskies are an incredibly athletic team with quick hands and an experienced defensive center.
  • First several minutes looked like a taped replay of ECU game: UCF couldn't score. But UConn also had talent!
  • BJ is not and doesn't seem to want to be a point guard. One assist in each of two games back is unacceptable.
  • Our power forward is the only guy trying (badly) to pass it in to Tacko.
  • BJ showed he's been working to get his freshman year 3-pt shot back that he lacked the first 3 weeks of season.
  • Tacko has zero points in two straight game, today only 3 rebounds, 4 turnovers, his head utterly out of it.
  • Two games running an opposing center blocked all our inside shots (9 blocks by 2 centers).
  • AJ and Tank have been total liabilities on offense for weeks, and today AJ couldn't even rebound.
  • UConn began game with a full court press, but called it off as cruel and inhuman punishment.
  • Dawkins has til next Saturday to reboot team or risk last year's Donny-style 11 straight conference loss meltdown.
  • Option: move AJ to point to make assists, let BJ and Matt move without the ball! Donny took ball from BJ, too.

First time in his career, Tacko goes scoreless in back to back games. Think he only had 1 FT attempt yesterday. Teammates for some reason, refused to pass him the ball, AGAIN. (What was that home game in non-conf play where his teammates refused to pass him the ball for the first 18 mins of the 2nd half?)

UCF was held less than 50 pts in back to back games while Tacko goes scoreless?

Coincidence?

Dawkins said after that non-conf home game that they would focus in practice to get Tacko touches by the low block. Sounds like the players need a refresher course in that. (Also, more practice shooting FT's too...that was pathetic too yesterday).

KL: We're on the same page. At the start of the UConn, two passes by Tacko to cutters were just off and we went away from it. Entry passes are triple threats for running the offense off (pass to cutters or out to Matt for a 3 if they double Tacko, otherwise a one-on-one move if left single covered).

Remember also that BJ has only played 9 games with Tacko, AD, Tank, or Chad. He's still "the new guy." His frosh year, he had two other quicker guards to do much of the ball handling, driving, and make assists in that 3-guard offense. He led that team in scoring. Now we have plenty of big-time scorers who can get 20+.

AJ is the TURNOVER KING!

Why..WHY...is AJ Davis shooting 3's???
Because he made them last season. How bad has AJ fallen? He led the team in scoring last year. This year he's fifth. The past three games, the only baskets he's made have been dunks.

He's 0-5 on 3's in four conference games, 32% for all FG shooting, 1 assist, and 3.5 turnovers (an unacceptable assist to turnover ratio of 0.29), no blocks, a dismal FT shooting percentage (58% for a guy who has half his points at the line), and 0.5 steals. And that was against four opponents without winning records who everyone else is beating in the conference.

Tacko is a liability on offensive side of ball. I said that when a lot of people were saying how dominant he was and he was good enough to be a high first round pick. There are way too many guys 6-10 and taller that play like guards to draft Tacko ahead of them.

He's just not ready. He's being shutout by mediocre college teams, He wouldn't even get the ball in the NBA at this point in the post. 1st rounder? #1 pick. Come on.

He needs this year and next at least.

Blah, blah, blah. Guess what? Remember UC Irvine's junior center 7' 6" from last year that Tacko confronted in his very first game with only a few days to practice with the team (he'd just been cleared). Remember how Tacko dominated him? Well the guy signed with the Warriors as a project. Hmmm. Could everyone be wrong here (as always)?

Today, guys are told they must be positive about everything that hasn't happened yet. I don't know why that approach has any appeal to anybody. What's wrong with just saying, "yes, it's a possibility, but here's why it may not"?

That guy was stiffer than a week old bagel left out on the counter and was waived faster than it takes you to read this message.
